Hi all, Worthing fan here in peace.

Re finances; at step 3 a decent striker is getting around £400pw and at Worthing a reasonable guestimate on our wage bill is approx £7,000 per week and our break even is a gate of 1,300 per game.

At step 2 I firmly believe you (Torquay) on your gates could afford either the best part time players or the lowest paid full timers, which decision you make has of course to suit your ethos/model but I know which I see as being more likely to be effective.

Good luck for the rest of the season

Full time / Part time?
Do you pay players more for their skill or because they can train more often?

This could have a thread of its own. There should be massive difference in mentality (although not it appears at Torquay). When you’re a full-time footballer it’s your livelihood, it’s your living, the mortgage and bills have to be paid. At a part-time level it’s a wee bit extra money ( a second income) at the end of the month on top of their job and a love for the game. Train Tue/Thurs ready for Sat's game - it's almost a hobby. This difference is why Yeovil are running away with the League and why we are currently a disgrace to football.

No, I am pointing out that a full time and part time budget differ. We hear, there is the budget, but can it buy us what we require. The answer is, clearly, not at this current time.

This comes back to previous comments around the age and the day job of the semi pro in question, e.g. 18/22 or so on a min wage job who’s say at Buckland, Willand etc then you’d jump at the chance of a chance at a pro club, BUT say you are 22+ and have started a career job / trade then you may be less inclined, even less so if your non league is one of those with a bigger budget. Ethan Archer from Three Bridges (Isthmian 1) I can imagine would come far more cheaply than Ollie Pearce.

The reality is we are at the interface between full-time and part-time professional football where the worst full-time players clash with the best part-time players.
If any of our current squad sign on for next season it will be because they couldn't get any thing better. We are the lowest ranked full-time team in the country and its going to take either a lot of money or a genuinely inspired manager to get us out of this. I'm not confident either way.

Both Havant and Eastbourne are full time so you're not the lowest ranked
