Away Days

I always use the train to get to games and most of the time I dont do bad with delays. It does seem though no matter where I go to see a game Im always home at the same time, be it Plymouth, Burton or Carlisle! The only difference the distance seems to make is the amount of beer you can drink on the way!

Many away matches, particularly in recent years and around the north during my uni years. Not as many as quite a few on here that said.

Nobody seems to have offered anything on missing a large part of a game as Andy asked for in the OP. I always remember getting the train from Leeds to York during the floods of 2000, a journey which should have taken 20 mins, took over 2 hours, got to the ground at half time, 2-0 up (Khalid Chalqi with one/both(?), not that I saw them!), lost 3-2 in the last minute, not a good day out in a pretty shambolic season.

Away days for me are all about getting a good group going to the game on the train and having a few beers. The football is usually what spoils the day!! Have been to many games and some dumps too.

Have been to see the gulls away at Truro, Plymouth, Newton Abbot, Exeter, Exmouth, Bristol City & Rovers, Swindon, Gillingham, Ebbsfleet, Wimbledon, Southend, Wembley, Northampton, Coventry, Milton Keynes, Rushden & Diamonds, Birmingham City, Cheltenham, Forest Green, Crewe, Macclesfield, Stockport, Old Trafford, Bury, Morecambe, Accrington, Carlisle, Hartlepool, York, Darlington, Sheffield Wednesday, Notts County, Boston United, Sheffield United, Barnsley, Huddersfield, Bournemouth, Doncaster, Leyton Orient, Peterborough, Bradford, Port Vale, Rotherham, Crawley, Colchester, Stevenage, Oldham, Shrewsbury, Histon, Kidderminster, Burton, Wycombe, Fleetwood, Oxford, Rochdale, Hinckley, Luton, Grimsby, Salisbury, Barnet, Lincoln City, Wrexham, Chester, Hereford, Newport, Woking, Hull, Mansfield, Chesterfield, Walsall, Harrogate Town, Stafford Rangers, Southampton, Aldershot, Dagenham.

I am slowly trying to do all the grounds in the league and conference. I only occasionally buy something from the away club and it is usualy food to the songs from our fans of "Who ate all the pies". and "Faggots chips and peas".
I have bought one or two scarves from memorable matches usualy with Wembley or special cup tie connections.
I have been to a lot of away grounds. I will list them here later on.

NA Gull wrote:tomogull - it was definitely at Wembley in 1998. Wembley reconstruction started in 2003. Although the penalty the ref gave was dubious, don't forget the one he did not give when Gibbs (I think) nailed one of their guys in the area. Clear penalty.
Thanks NAGull. Really didn't remember this as a Wembley game and don't remember the penalty not given against Gibbs. I do remember the Gittens handball penalty clearly. Not biased of course !! :-D

Great stuff Cornish! Yeah I should have re-worded it better on the poll as it does say 'nearly always'. I have a few Austrian scarves but my collecting from games is basically programmes and match tickets, I save match tickets too.

Andy, I have a football scarf collection of well over 120 scarves from the UK and Europe. Either myself or my old man have been to all the grounds and seen a game at them. Many are from seeing Torquay, but my dads also done the 92 clubs, although quite a few were before we started collecting. I also have scarves from teams in Scotland, Wales, Italy, France, Portugal, Spain, Turkey, Ukraine and others. So I guess I should have ticked club shop. When I was younger they were displayed on my bedroom wall. I now have half of them up in my "Football room".
