A strange saturday afternoon

Barnet have an excellent chairman in Kleanthous as well, bloke loves the club and has done everything he can for the good of the club despite the fact their council has done them zero favours ever. They've never been in financial difficulty since he's been around that i can remember and they've always lived within their means. We are a similar club to them in terms of size of support, ambitions and recent history. They just have better people in charge from top to bottom, an experienced manager at this level and a good squad.

They are doing really well and credit to them, it can't have been easy to effectively be kicked out of Underhill and while the fans may not have taken completely to The Hive (I can't blame them it doesn't look like 'home') as ever they are doing things the right way on and off the field. It might not have been great for the fans but it was the best deal for the club and will probably secure their long term future, i do hope a return to Barnet materialises at some point though. It's not right when clubs are taken out of their towns/boroughs.

Going to be a massively tough game for tonight, I've heard our starting lineup and on paper for me it's as strong as we can name, just have to hope we get a performance and cut out the silly errors.

No surprises to see Matt look like an arse again, it's what happens when someone with no idea of any facts pipes up.

Barnet fan in peace. Read that some of you are wondering how Bees can afford all our players and coaches!!. Well actually we have a tight squad with only around 18 full timers but we have some great under 18's who help out and many of our main players have come through the ranks so have cost nothing. Graham Stack and Jon Nurse double up as coaches and Gary Waddock has been there since the start of the season working for free. He has only just started a rolling month to month contract. But we are within budget and last year made a healthy profit. The reason is that The Hive, unlike Underhill, can be used daily. It has a gym open to the public and 14 training pitches open to the public some of which are 3G and are in constant use. The Hive bar/restaurant is open all week. There are conferencing facilities and Toshiba are setting up a state of the art medical facility with four scanners which should start up very soon as part of their sponsorship. Also London Broncos play there and Barnet get all the gate and bar money from their matches. London Bees (Ladies) play there as well. Plus with bars under the west stand for both home and away supporters people now spend money at the ground instead of at local pubs. We also have international and European teams training there when playing champions league games or at Wembley. It is as you say a pity that our gates are not what they should be but hopefully that will improve gradually.
Hope you all enjoy your trip tomorrow, (why the hell was it not arranged for a saturday? )
Sounds to me like a progressive club going places v a club treading water ........

Appear to have stirred up a Bees nest (it's ok my coats on :) ) Thanks Barnet fans for coming along and providing with an insight to your clubs affairs, you appear to have a good set up, fair play.

frenchgull wrote:tomorrow will be a strange afternoon as its the first round proper in the F A cup,Weston super mare and all the little teams hoping to make it into the next round and Torquay United are not there.OK we had our opportunity but were not good enough so I will sit in front of the TV and watch the results come through without a care in the world but in truth very disgruntled that we have missed the opportunity of making money. Its very strange that a lot of teams that we play seem to get players in before they play us,for instance Barnet have just appointed permanently Gary Waddock as first team trainer and have got a stricker in from Watford on loan.I have no confidence for Tuesdays clash on TV ,just hope we are not embaressed. We are a conference side but national nor southern is in the balance.
I spent four years playing for Weston in the seventies they've had two different grounds since playing at
Langford Road. The games been re-arranged for Tuesday 18th November. :keepie:

Well my plans for a football fix were well and truly stuffed by the weather as both Kings games and many more were called off. As for the situation at Barnet to honest not really that concerned, certainly not enough to go digging. Just thought I'd throw it out there to see if anyone knew of a secret investor, or whether it is a genuine case of Barnet spending more money than they have. Because it doesn't matter their London based, although it helps, running at there level will have significant costs and how are they funding it on 1200 gates.

Unbelieveable.

I am thinking that Torquay should be twined with Man City, not because we have the same status, support or finance but on the field we seem so similar. They have international players where as we have non league players but both make mistakes of the same proportion. They struggle to beat sides that should be easy meat just like us and underachive this season. The only other difference is they have the dosh and can buy themselves another player or two to achive results this season where as we are , well you know what I mean.
