Well, it should secure their future for sometime. It oustrips the revenue the Man Utd FA Cup tie gave them and they get Ryan Harley as a replacement. Not a bad scenario to be in, whilst they sit pretty in a play-off position in the league above us. Meanwhile we flounder!

£1.75m - blimey!

Fair play to them and Grimes, in all honesty.

You just know, however, had Matt Grimes been a Torquay player, we would have sold him for about £180,000.

I don't know any background to Grimes but appears to be a welcome "shot in the arm" for their coffers!

Maybe they could use the money to pay off some previously written off debts to small businesses to add Christmas cheer! Lol
Give it a year and Levi Ives signs a contract, he could bring in money for Torquay but he needs to repay Torquay for giving him the chance first. He could make the step up if he continues to improve as he is. :keepie:

I hadn't realised that Exeter had re-signed Ryan Harley. A very good player. So much for their relegation season I was hoping to enjoy.

Heard a rumour from a little greek birdy a few weeks ago Grimes was being sold, and a large part of the money was going to be spent on a 3G training pitch at their training ground, interesting to see if that comes true.

Whether we like it or not, when it comes to developing local/Devon born talent Exeter are top of the pile, they are better than Plymouth in that respect, rivalry aside it's just the plain simple truth. I've been accused of having a grudge against our academy in the past which is not the case, I'm delighted to see the improvements made from the early days back 2007 when our youth set up re-started and they played their match's at Stover with two mini soccer goals tied together, and used to get roundly stuffed even once losing 14.0 to Elite develop centre team, our academy today is light years better.

But it still lags so far behind, and the chance of progression will only be hindered by being a non-league club. The main gripe I've got is the way local talent seems to be passed over at our set up, I can tell you, and I do know the lad personally, a particular player released last January at 16 ( will not name him ) is playing the full 90 minutes for Buckland tonight v Plymouth Argyle in the bowl match, the lad is paid by Buckland and has had provisional trials with Plymouth Argyle, the lad should have been kept, as should a couple of others, but hey they weren't, could go on for ages, but I'll spare you all.

I thought Lee Mansell was offered an ok amount to be honest....

We have a "discovery" - he is called Luke Young!
Chris Hargreaves and Lee Hodges are to be congratulated for getting him.
The Board will now show their true colours - keep him and give us a chance of promotion or sell him only if it is a seriously good offer that could not be refused (and not the relative peanuts that our last great midfielder was allowed to leave for, due in part to poor contractual negotiations).
Also, if the vast majority of any fee does not go into the playing budget, then we will know what the ambitions of the Board (or lack of) are.
I note that Paul Buckle watched us again yesterday - I assume not because of his alleged "love" of our Club!
