I've been seeing a few times recently that traditionally, we seem to finish the season strongly. I decided to look further into this, to see if this was indeed a regular occurence, or whether it was a false trail. I took the last 7 years to see this, and looked at results through March, April and then May...
2003/04:
We took 23 points from a possible 33. Overall we picked up 81 points that year, so we picked up just under 30% (28%) of our total points in the last 3 months.
2004/05:
Picked up 15 from 33. We took 51 points, so again, just under 30% (29%) of our total points were won in the final third of the campaign.
2005/06:
20 from 33. 52 points picked up throughout the season. Meaning that 38% of our total were picked up in the last 11 games.
2006/07:
10 from 33. 35 points picked up all season, so again, just under 30% (28%) of our total points were picked up late on.
2007/08:
18 from 45. A lot more late games than usual, as we played 15 in the final 3 months. Took 86 points that year, so just 21% of our total accumulation were picked up over those 15 games. [doesn't include playoffs/FA Trophy]
2008/09:
27 from 42. We picked up 83 points in total, so 33% of our points were picked up in the final third. Again, not including playoffs.
2009/10:
25 from 39. Finished on 57, so 44% of points were taken late on, in that excellent run.
-------------------
Now, this might just be a load of absolute tosh, and it probably is, as we could just go onto lose every game between now and the finale. But, as March draws to a close, we have picked up 14 points from 21, which I think is excellent considering it's been two games a week.
I thought it was interesting to see that we do seem to pick up a few points late on, so I'm really hopeful we carry our good form through until the end!
COYY!
