This is a calamity for Truro. How will they appoint a replacement? Who would want to go there when home games are 100 miles away? Lee Hodges and Chris Todd are good guys. Without them, I think Brucie could be right - Truro will be relegated.

tomogull: we (Whitby Town FC) will definitely stay up this season; we may even get in the top seven or eight. The reason? We have re-signed (for the club record fee of twelve thousand quid) the best player in the Northern Premier League (midfielder Dale Hopson). Like all other clubs the Committee moan and groan that there's not enough money...we can't compete with other clubs etc. etc. Well, you know the routine.
Like United, the trouble recently - or should I say one of the troubles - has been the total lack of any cup victories of any sort for many a season, and at this level (our level now, I'm afraid) cup money is vital. Still, you never know, United might draw Whitby in the FA Trophy at some time or other.

Tomogull posted that Billericay had two very good fulbacks who got crosses in this is why Hodges put 3 up front in the second half and stopped the onslaught which could have ended 6 or 7 nil. If Hodges had acted earlier he may have got away with a 2 or 3 -0 defeat.
The Truro keeper was class and kept his side in the game.

As Portugull posted, the official attendance was 362. But I'm sure there were more than that there - more like 500 as a guesstimate. Not quite as many as 650 as Portugull suggests.

Rayzie - I agree that Tyler Harvey did well, and worked hard, as a lone front man for Truro. Ran out of steam in the second half which was hardly surprising in that heat, plus getting little support. But he never gave up. Truro will probably struggle, but I don't think they will be relegated as Brucie suggests. The reason? Lee Hodges. He changed the team shape for the second half - something that Gary Hodges has always seemed incapable of doing. They were more competitive in the second half, although after the third and fourth goals (within a few minutes of each other), Billericay took their foot off the gas.

Wivel - how do you rate the Seasiders chances this season? Last season, if I remember correctly, you forecast they would be relegated. At one point, it looked as if you could be right but, unlike TUFC :'( they rallied round and stayed up.

Well I was there and Bristows Bench was about a third full. I believe it holds about 2,000 when full.
I thought at least 650/700 at the game certainly more than 362.

I do not think this included about 400 United Season Tickets holders in the Bench who got in free of charge.
Billericay took 62 fans to the game. According to the Cornish Football Forum just 20 Truro fans used the subsidised coach up to Devon and a further 16 found their own way there.
That means there were possibly 264 Torquay locals there. I believe that the official attendance figure has to include everybody in the ground.

Billericay fans are complaining that there were no refreshments available to the away fans. Pretty piss poor if this is the case.

Those who went to the Truro game what is your opinion of their target/ striker player Tyler Harvey. I thought as a target man especially in the first half he looked quite impressive showing a lot of strength and winning most balls in the air. Of course due to the midfield giving him little service it was hard to judge his pace and skills. If he had all those qualities could he be the missing player for Torquay.
I did notice though he has played for Gary Owers in the past!

It didn't include the Torquay fans?

This site reckons 62 from Billericay:

https://www.onefootballforum.co.uk/inde ... 36/page-72

So that means 300 came up from Cornwall?

NOTE TO GULLSDIV2 (and anyone else who bought a 50/50 ticket at yesterday's Truro match). I emailed Truro FC to query the draw, not expecting a reply. But I did get a reply, and quite quickly. The winning ticket is 5570. If it is your ticket (assuming you've still got it stuffed in your pocket) send a photo to [email protected]

I don't know when the draw was made, nor how much the winnings are. But I told you they'd do it drectly ..........

I also moisied along to Plainmoor this afternoon. Being Cornish, I felt it was my duty. I also wanted to get some idea of what standard of football we can expect this season. Very strange watching a competitive league game with just one side of the ground open. Let's start with the home side - Truro. As Rayzie posted, they played hoof ball in the first half. Long balls up to Tyler Harvey who had no chance against Billericay's defence. I think Jared Lewington, ex-Tiverton, was supposed to be his strike partner, but he looked out of his depth. Ed Palmer has definitely had too many pasties whilst in Cornwall and the most polite description for him is 'clumsy'. Niall Thompson was playing as an attacking full back. It didn't work. He was 'skinned' time and time again. In the second half, he was pushed up on the wing where he played better. Lloyd Gardner, ex Buckland, came on the second half and looked more the part than Lewington. I forgot Ben Harding played for Truro. Gawd - is he poor, or what? Slow, never got in a challenge, didn't mark players and misplaced passes - i.e. just as he was when he played for us, but now even slower. Truro's best player by far was their 'keeper, Jojo Wollacott. He brought off some good saves and his handling and distribution were good. He had no chance with the goals and without his saves, it could easily have been double figures. I think it will be a long, hard season for Truro. Not only playing on the wrong side of the Tamar, but also missing Cody Cooke and Ben Gerring who is probably a decent defender at this level. Oh, and Jon-Paul Pitman came on as sub in the second half. I think he replaced Lewington. For what he contributed, Lee Hodges might just as well have left Lewington on .........

Billericay look a very good side and I can see why they are one of the favourites to win the league. I'm not sure if they were that good, or if they were made to look good by a poor Truro side. More or less agree with Arcadia's view except about Jake Robinson winning the game on his own. He took his four goals superbly, but there was a lot of movement and good football played by the whole team. I was impressed by their left back (don't know his name) who got forward and put in some great crosses, one of which landed on a plate for Robinson's first goal. Ricky Modeste is a niggly player. Very good at falling over and getting free kicks.

I was pleasantly surprised with the ref - Scott Jackson. I thought he ref'd the game well. Didn't miss much and only flashed his yellow card once - to Ed Palmer who fully deserved it. Handled a silly little skirmish well between Harding and a Billy player (might have been Modeste). Better than most of the refs we had at Plainmoor last season.

Gullsdiv2 - yes, Gerring was suspended. I also bought a 50/50 ticket, but don't you know how it works in Cornwall? You buy the ticket and that's it. No draw. Or they may do it drectly ........ I think in the excitement of such a big occasion, they just forgot ............

Collected my season ticket today which was not ready on Tuesday and watched the first half of Truro City v Billericay Town.
Billericay dominated the game and but for Wollacott in the Truro goal they would have been 5 up at Half Time.
Billericay played like a team and their movement off the ball was exemplary.
Jake Robinson was the star and opened the scoring with a delightful flick at the near post giving the keeper no chance.
His second was a perfect header from a pin point cross by Kissi.
Truro looked poor and if Tyler Harvey got the ball he found 4 Billericay defenders on him in a flash.
The thing that struck me most compared to United was their speed and movement.
If we are to compete with the best in this League we need to match teams like Billericay who turned defence into attack at pace in an instant.
Roll on Tuesday and Bath City.
