MOTM - Tonbridge

This thread is about Saturdays Man of the Match, not where we are as a new squad, and they were all dreadful for 70 minutes on Saturday.

If anyone thinks that first 70 minutes was acceptable then maybe they need to re assess, last season they’d have been booed off at half and full time.

I am fully onboard with the new team manager/squad, I’m not one of those saying we should be aiming for promotion this season. it will take time to get all the right players in, and playing the way he wants. It took Wotton 5 years to do that at Truro, so if we’re still in this division next season but showing consistent improvement then I would be more than happy with that. Just felt Saturday was mostly very poor and no one really deserved praise.

The only reason we remain near the top is because this year there haven’t been 4 or 5 teams consistent enough to already be 6 to 9 points clear of us already, it’s there for the taking at the moment.

In hindsight I would had Hasani as the one player who had energy, drive and determination when he came on, the rest showed a lack of urgency, some basic mistakes such as giving the ball away when under no pressure etc.

Some people's memories are insane. Only a few months ago we were days away from insolvency after a season of real actual dross. This year we've put together a brand new squad of very young players and we're pushing at the top of the table. All you moaners, please, get some perspective or perhaps reassess how you spend your Saturdays!

Anyhow, for me,

Carson
Dyer
Dryer
Ash
Craske

None.

No one stood out as being a class above or totally abject, just for me no one was really any better than anyone else and they all made silly mistakes at just the wrong time.

Mussa was exciting, capable of beating 3 players at once when he first arrived, he seems to have been told to leave that stuff out now and we are left with a player who can occasionally deliver a clever pass and not much else. Is he a midfielder or a striker?

Young, early days I know, but that first game he looked electric, capable of beating players, taking ‘on the nose’ set pieces and shot on sight, unfortunately there was none of any of that on Saturday.
WJD, looks so much more effective coming on as a sub, maybe the same with Hassani.

Most credit to the crowd, another 3000+, made some noise and tried to push the team forward. Last season that performance would have got them booed off at the end. It did annoy seeing the ref and Lino having a good laugh as they walked off.

it’s still early days and it will take time, maybe even a season or two, for Wotton to get everything where he wants it, so it’s not pretty at the moment, but hopefully we’ll all stick with them.
