Out of interest, how much did Reading pay for Manset in January? As I've stated above, anything under £350k and I'll be very annoyed.

The fact is, players are worth the minimum a selling club will accept for them. We are notorious for selling players at values far below what seems to be their 'worth'. If we got an offer in the region of £150k, we'd take it. It doesn't matter that his true value is higher.

I know we're a selling club and if we intended to cash in on O'Kane we'd want to give him every minute to showcase his value, I just wondered whether we were hoping to hold on to him another season and cash in at a later time, hence keeping him away from interested eyes a little. I didn't see him in the preceding weeks so he may well have been knackered and needing a rest.

Regarding potential fee, I just don't think there are many transfers of that sort of value in the football league any more, particularly if what's being bought is potential. Eunan has bags of this, and no small amount of quality I hasten to add, but I can't see a Championship club using the majority of their transfer budget for the year on him at this time. A club can think he's worth any amount of money, but if they don't have it to spend they're not going to pay it, and with numerous clubs on the brink of administration there are few who could shell out this amount without seriously thinking about it. A tribunal would also assign us nowhere near that amount, so I fear if the club were to cash in on him the fee would be somewhat below where we (the fans) value him. Good shout on the sell on fee though, I think that'd be a major part of any deal.

Having said all this, unless a major offer comes in or Eunan says he wants to go (I've heard no indication of that) I'd hope we wouldn't think of selling him until at least January.

If he's going to the Championship, then a few hundred thousand would come in very handy for the club. But the sell-on clause is a must. Get 20%, and then if he proves himself as a Championship player his value could be millions in 2 years time.

He was the best of a bad bunch yesetrday. His talent is obvious (and has been since he first pulled on the shirt). Exquisite tough and vision mean he's destined for much better things. And with more time on the ball in League 1/Championship, he'd probably look even better in either of those leagues than this. I hope we can keep him for another season.

Totaly argee thought he was outstanding in the second half,also hope that when the Championship clubs come flocking that our club holds out for the right fee.

Agreed, say what you want about there being little money in todays market, but if a Championship or upper League 1 team thinks he's worth that, then they'll pay it no qualms.

O'Kane WILL draw a fee closer to £500k. A figure such as you suggest would be a ridiculous amount for a player interesting Championship clubs.

I am also a big O'Kane fan, think he's got a big future ahead, hopefully at least still a bit of it as a Gull. While his mid season underuse was cited as giving him a rest I think it was also in part to keep him from catching the eye of too many suitors, but with his performances on Sky in recent weeks that may have been to no avail.

£350k in today's market is perhaps a bit ambitious, I'd hope for 6 figures but expect the club to accept around £50k if it came to it.

Amen, Tommy. If/When he goes, anything under £350,000 will be disgraceful.

Duo to all the doom, gloom, Buckle bashing and player hating, I thought it would be unfair not to single out Eunan O'Kane for his excellent performance at OT. While he struggled to get involved in the first half, he was running the game in the second and stood out like a sore thumb. He was our only creative spark, probably touched the ball more times than any other player and remained our only hope of rescuing what was a sinking ship. It's always interesting to see which players really step up on the big occasion and O'Kane demonstrated why he is technically the best player we've had since Alex Russell.

I've been very impressed with his development this season. He's adapted his style to fit in a two-man midfield and improved his strength and defensive skills. We all fear that Buckle will take Branston and Zebs with him up the road, but if he has any sense - and money - he'll use it to strip us of O'Kane who is destined for bigger and better things (though not sure Bristol Rovers fit that description).
