Zebroski - £26k
Phillips - £18k
Wroe - £14k
Todd - £8k
Charnock - £5k
D'Sane - Undisc
Rowe-Turner - Undisc

What I've got so far, think the rest were freebies.

Thing is that transfer fees will satisfy the selling club but you have to meet the players demands as it is ultimately their choice if they wish to join or not.

I think we have probably been getting good quality players down here because we have been paying them reasonably good money. More than we can afford, certainly. Problem is that this information is kept pretty quiet.

Correct, and Charnock was £5k.

Was thinking exclusively of the BSP years - stupidly forgot all about the subsequent Zebs and the Rendell 'loan'. As alluded to earlier though - it's not just about the transfer fee's paid, it's about the ability to offer better personal terms than the clubs you're competing against. We were evidently able to do that in the BSP.

Quite right, CP.

Charnock was another undisclosed transfer, I'd guess around the £10k mark.

Off the top of my head, I think Zebs cost us £25k, Wroe £10k and Dsane (three peanuts).

I don't think any member of our 03-04 promotion-winning squad cost a penny in transfers, but obviously none of this takes into account signing on fees etc.
The only one I would add to that list is Kieran Charnock who I believe we paid a nominal fee for. I would imagine Zebs was our biggest signing during the Buckle years although if Barry Fry is to be believed we may have paid an even bigger fee than the £20-25k rumoured to have been paid for Zebs in securing the "loan" services of Scott Rendell for a year!

He didn't spend vast sums on transfer fee's - the £17.5k we apparently paid for Lee Phillips was the biggest fee from memory? But he was very clearly able to offer better 'packages' than most other clubs in the BSP. The amount of players who were well renknowned at that level that we were able to attract - ahead of some of the other bigger clubs, indicates the budget he was given was very competetive.

Much has been said about Buckle given more financial backing than many other recent Torquay managers. I was wondering if anybody had a rough idea of how much Bucks spent on transfer fees in our two season in the BSP, compared to, say Roy Mc Farlane (who signed the nucleus of the side that got us promoted to League one).

Just curious to see how many good players Bucks managed to convince to come down here on a free compared to having to pay for them. I remember reading many times in the first couple of seasons that Bucks would talk the club up very very well, take them around the town and go out of his way to accommodate them.
I know that he has tarnished much good that he did by the way in which he left the club, and the lies to us even after he had made up his mind, but it certainly seems that he managed to convince a good caliber of player to come down here during his time with us.

Anyway, I digress - as I was saying, does anybody have a ballpark figure, or a way of comparing the costs of our last two promotion winning sides?
