Didn't want to start a new topic for this as it is unsubstantiated but @League2Rumours has claimed that Kevin Nicholson is set to sign for Bristol Rovers.

Just another kick in the nuts if that's true.

We could get ( Zorro ) Tim Sills back to play in goal seeing he did a stirling part time job for us a couple of seasons ago !!

I'm not panicking.....yet. I mentioned on the Darren Byfield thread, I think if someone like Chris Hargreaves had been given the job I would be worried as he might have struggled a bit on the contacts front. I'm willing to give ML the benefit of the doubt at the moment, aside from Oastler and Stevens he has been in talks with at least 2 other players so hopefully something can come of that. The experience he's gained over the last few years will mean he's built up a host of contacts and I'm sure that we will head into the pre-season games with the majority of the squad he is looking for. Our first pre-season match is still three weeks away and a lot can happen in that time. I'm just glad we aren't back in the Bateson days when all sorts of Tom, Dick and Harrys turned up for trials and none of us were the wiser! We still have a few useful players at the club and hopefully with the addition of 8 or so we will be ready to go.

i agree with other posts on this matter
i think the panic button is about to be pushed,a week gone and no news on possible targets or signings.
maybe some time left but with a possible eight players needed are they or have they been identified,to get them
in and gelling together will take time,we all want a good start to the season especially with br second match up,
but the spine of our team has gone and needs sorting soon;a goalkeeper centre back, centre mid<greative with the ball>and a goal scorer all for me a must really

see what happens in the week to come

It's due to the new FA initiative called "Rolling Keepers" aimed at making professional football like playing in the local park. This allows any player to save the shots. It's believed the idea was brought up by Luis Saurez, can't think how he came up with that one!

I have it on good authority that our goalie is going to be a small robot that actually operates a Grumpy Santa and operating the small robot is a tiny chinese woman who also knits Martin Ling's's underpants.

Fair points everybody. I'm not too clued up regarding the machinations of a football club in situations like this so all your input is invaluable. Cheers. I'm still a BIT worried though!!! :scarf:

Useful signing if it bares fruit.
They were "spotted" in a hotel! ;-)

Not exactly, most clubs were able to plan for next season about 5 weeks ago, which yes, is a big advantage on us, but look at the thread showing other clubs in our league and their in's and out's. It's not like they all have their squads planned, and consequently, there are a huge number of free players out there.

I understand there is another 10 days or so until the players return, and if ML signs someone now, or on 30th June, they're still going to have the same intergration time as each other.

It's definately not panic time for me, it's just that everyone wants to see some news of a new player to give them something to do and research his history.

Let's face it, it's the excitement of reading a headline about a new player, just as it was about the new manager, then most people get chance to chastise the club, critisise the manager, and judge the inabilities of the new player before he even pulls on a shirt.

I think things are certainly starting to move but as we know from experience it's all about whether people are prepared to upsticks and move all the way down here - which is a major decision for anyone, particularly as there is often a young family involved.

I would have thought that M/L had a few players in mind before he was offered the job as he seems to have his ear to the ground about possible players available anyway even when out of work; however, a week has passed and there is still nothing. No rumours or links or anything. I hope he REALLY did have players in mind and we are about to see some unveiled as Gulls this week or next otherwise i will be a bit worried. I obviously don't want him to be signing naff players just to make the numbers up but we are short of a good few players and if nothing happens this week then he has just over a month to assemble a squad, make them gel together as best he can and get his style of playing across to them in a way they are comfortable and familiar with. In the meantime most other clubs in league 2 are nearly 2 months ahead of us in preparation. That is VERY concerning.

we need to panic when we all get to the point that we cannot think of anything else we can write on this Forum
