we didn't really play 4-4-2 though. If anything it was more 4-2-4, can't really say Kee was playing wide midfield him and RObinson were playing right up the pitch supporting the two through the middle.

don't think it was bravery, he just wanted the best attacking players on the pitch, he could have gone with MAcklin as a more otrthodox right winger or Stevens but like I said he didn't really pick a 4-4-2 formation and expect the two wide forward to play as midfielders. They'd interchange, they were full out attacking players.

in the past now anyway, it worked for the TEAM until the final when we had an off day for whatever reason. I don't see us setting up the same way again, mainly because at the moment we don't have the players. From all accounts Ling is a more rigid 4-4-2 man so i'd expect him to do a bit of business to get some more natural wide midfielders in, McPhee may well start wide right next season.

I'll never be convinced that playing people out of position is in anyway an effective plan. If you are playing 4-4-2, it doesn t matter how many headlines you want to create by playing 4 strikers (and Sky Sports were certainly bigging-up Bucks for his bravery ) – the best players to pick in wide positions are people that know how to play there. Kee didn t have a clue. Worked hard but achieved virtually nothing in any game from that position. I don t recall him making a cross. If you are playing 4-4-2, the wide players need certain attributes to make it work and Billy has none of them. The team performed well at times on the run-in, but might actually have been improved if we didn t have a passenger playing right-wing.

because the team was doing well. Team > individuals. He wanted to get 4 forwards on the pitch, he wanted the biggest of them in Zebroski to play through the middle to give us an outlet so it left one space left. They did interchange quite a bit during games, you'd see Robinson through the middle, Zebroski wide, Kee through the middle Tomlin wide. I expect he thought he'd get more 'work rate' out of Kee and more quality out of Tomlin. Which was why Kee was deployed wide and Tomlin through the middle to start with.

it was only a problem when we were struggling, which happened twice, because all the eggs are in one basket. Rotherham and in particular obviously Stevenage. There wasn't a plan B because the subs coming on actually made us a weaker side in my opinion. But that's the gamble.

He never looked comfortable there - like a fish out of water. Just as it didn't get the best out of Wayne Rooney at Man Utd when asked to play wide - his talents were wasted. Some experiments aren't successful - that one wasn't, but in true Buckle style, he stuck with it regardless.

Clearly did for the team because he played there during a decent unbeaten run until the Rotherham game, including some excellent performances like Wycombe at home despite us not winning and BRadford away where we spanked them. Whether it got the best out of Kee is probably up for debate. Would have preferred Tomlin in that position as he seems made for the attacking wide player position but there we go. It worked to a degree. Though i doubt Billy Kee would agree. His time out wide did nothing for him and nothing for the team.

worked though. Probably went for Mansell's experience knowing he'd get a solid performance out of him even at full back and then rotating Oastler and Lathrope in the middle. Just a bit bizarre during the time Senda was used that Oastler wasn't given a game at full back but there you go, maybe if there was nothing to play for he might have done.
