Did Andrew also have a spell at Bath University in 1979? Or are there two Andrew Candys from Torquay?

ferrarilover wrote:ATTENTION ON DECK.

I asked Andrew, by PM, to share with those of us who don't know a great deal about our new man on the inside, to tell us a little about himself. Below is his reply, unedited, save for chopping an irrelevant bit off the bottom.

I am 55, Torquay born and bred.Educated at Westhill Secondary Modern where I shared my schooling with Trojan and probably other users of this site. I moved around the country working mainly for local authorities as an HR Manager before coming back home to work for Teignbridge Council for the last 15 years. My 2 children ( now grown up) came to all the Torquay games with me,both home and away for many years. My partner Janet and I have tried to be involved with the Club and on previous occassions we have painted the Changing Rooms, swept up after matches and most recently, worked with St Marychurch School to produce the Mosaic on the wall at Plainmoor.
I took early retirement last year and set up my own Company but my real desire was to work at TUFC in a professional capacity which I have now achieved.

So, seems a thoroughly altruistic egg then and will certainly have my full support for the duration of his (hopefully lengthy) time at the club.

The one thing which does occur, is that if he and Trojan went to school together, Trojan either had a tough paper round, or was held back two dozen years.

Matt.

Last September I wrote to Simon Baker, primarily about the Membership Scheme, but I also addressed the issue of the Clubs failure over decades to promote United to the local population. I suggested doing so with the help of volunteers. I am really pleased with Andrews appointment which I think is a big step in the right direction. Good luck Andrew.

Andy - thank you for doing this and I know why you are having done some (limited) bits and pieces for the club gratis(as well as paid work - though still waiting for the cheque...)

However I would err one note of caution, I hope we (as in the whole of TUFC including club, fans, etc) do not take advantage and I hope you do get just rewards for this, whether it be satisfaction, benefits or monetary

Good on you mate ;-)

I now have the insight to visualise you singing on the floor singing sailing with SG while Dave has his 6th Magners. And then you both crawling home to bed with partners but not nec the right ones in the right flat or right bed. (wakes up with enourmous hangover). Not a prety sight

Andy. i fancy a jacuzzi while sitting in a box at the family end being served All the best juices (sorry guys I can't drink Alchohol) by scantily clad Ladies. (oops wife saw that) he says with new lump in back of head!

Once again,my thanks to all of you for your good wishes. I feel very flattered when some of the well known and well respected posters ( no names) on this Forum feel moved to comment, it makes me very grateful for your support. On a slightly different note, I welcome any comments or suggestions you have over the next few weeks so please feel free to contact me on [email protected]
Well its been an exciting day and at my age ( and Trojan's) it can only mean one thing...time for bed.
Thank you all, and I hope that there will be some other news tomorrow.
Best regards,
Andrew

Note to Andrew Candy : Andy, don't let anyone on this site (especially Fiat Lover) take advantage of your good nature, thus compromising your voluntary role at Torquay United.

I have to say that this appointment is fantastic, just the kind of man we so desperately need at the Club. You can't ask for more than a committed longstanding fan working for his Club for free and full of enthusiasm too.

Andrew, I'm positive you'll be a breath of fresh air around the place and I wish you all the very best of luck.

Thank you very much Fiat Lover, that's my age and anonymity gone for a burton. :@

Thanks Andy for help with the Maths homework, it's still in the satchel in the loft !
Without your help, I wouldn't have finished my technical apprenticeship. :-D

Note to Fiat Lover : morning paper round, evening paper round and helping my nightclub manager dad as and when needed for pot collecting duty. As a kid, I saw at an early age the dangers of the twilight world of nightclubs. I still frequent them now, but not as an "employee", just as a watchful, mellowed professional social drinker. ;-)

Early retirement at 55. These Local Authority chaps are onto a good thing. No wonder they are striking to retain their benefits.

Not that I m jealous I ll have you know.....well not much anyway. :'(

Good luck in your new role Andy.

When the big news is the potential signing of Andy Parkinson I think that is definitely a cause for this thread to carry on so if and when that breaking news appears we can just pretend it didn't happen and continue kissing your arse andy :)

In all seriousness congrats on getting what seems to be your dream job, hope you achieve your aims and no goal music and you'll be on the Queen's honours list. Or Matt's praise board as it's known.

Why are you asking us, you work there!

Sadly (well, not really) you are the news today Andrew.

Matt.

Thanks Matt for your support.
Trojan has already made comment on our playing days at Westhill. He mentions Steve Pope who was hell of a player but as I recall, so was Alan. We were class mates and good friends and its really great to hear from him via this site.
I am grateful for all the kind comments and support but really don't think this topic needs to go beyond 2 pages. Must be a slow news day at TUFC?

Yes it was although more the hard work of my partner Janet. As far as I am aware it will survive as the wall on which the mural is fixed is the exterior wall of the toilets and they are not being demolished.
Ah right, wasn't sure what was happening with the toilet block at that end ! I thought we might have been getting some plush new ones!
