For Christs sake lets all take a step back and look at the situation with some optimism ( and this is someone who sees the bottle as half empty most of the time)

I remember years ago with Coventry City in 1987

Keith Houchen - a washed up Division 4/League 2 journeyman

Greg downs - a washed up has been with Norwich

Trevor Peake - non league with Nuneaton

Micky Gynn = - a peterborough player

Plus other of simolar ilk

What happens a new manager, a new team and they gel to win the FA Cup and finish 6th on old Division 1

So lets wait and see - some people seem willing to kick a man before he is down

Conservatively, there are 20,000 football teams in England. The lowest rank Cardiff can achieve this season is 44th. This puts them in the top 0.24% of clubs in the country, I'd suggest they're doing a fine job.

Rice, fat porker, the guy probably wears a 28" waist and weighs, maybe, 10 stone.

McPhee was a decent Conference player last season, and that division is as near as makes no difference as strong as L2, I don't know where you get this opinion that we are so far in advance of the better clubs in the conference. The top half of the Conference, it could be reasonably argued, would hump teams in the bottom half of L2.
McPhee, I guess, will do just fine in the division this year. The defense is no weaker for having Saah replace Pickles and Olejnik replace Bevan.
Zedders is a big loss and yet to be replaced, but McPhee will do a decent impression until we can stumble upon a decent loanee.
The middle of the park is weaker for having no Stanley, but it's not relegation class by a long chalk.
The front line is weak, we know this, but crucially, so does Dinger, and he is working on it.

All in all, we're not doing too bad, and there's plenty of time left yet.

Matt.

Royal gull/Brett - Things are really "kicking off" signing wise now (guffaws louldly into his coffee). I give you Mr. Lings latest rabbit out of the hat. Martin Rice.
Brett - god help Cardiff if you are anything to do with them. No wonder they cannot get out of the championship..
i have never agreed with Gordon Sparkes but he once described Rice as "that fat porker from Exeter".
Seriously though if you think Mcphee and Rice are league quality players then I suggest a quick assessment by your local mental health team might be in order :~D :~D :~D :~D :~D

Completely agree about Atieno, he's obviously got something about him which is why someone has bothered to make a compilation video of him. If he can settle well, could be the tricky player needed to replace Zebroski.

Reading between the lines it is likely we will only be in the market for 1 striker if Taiwo shows more than 'average' in the next two friendlies. Ling seems impressed already.
If hes impressing the manager and does well in the games then surley hes worth a chance. Id happily see him sign on a year contract of Ling has faith in him.

I still think we need to get through the season as well as possible and the season after we can push on.

TCP wrote:"TCP has just been negative against everything Ling has seemingly ever done and I trust his judgement as much as I trust brucie's"

No offence meant, but I'm a little bit more qualified to speak about Ling's recent failures.

FWIW, I hope it works out for you guys, I really do, but I have a nagging feeling than his many managerial inadequacies will once again rear their ugly head this season.
I have absolutely no doubt you know more about his recent failures than any of us. The trouble is that there has been nothing positive at all and I can't believe for one second that there wasn't something positive he did in two years. The reason I compared you to brucie is because his posts are all doom and gloom and everything is negative. We don't really need that and neither does Martin Ling.

Myself, and the rest of the Torquay fans are willing to give him a chance and offer our support to him. He has proven he can do it with a L2 team before and I would consider the opinions on him in League 2 above and beyond any of him in the Conference. Right now, his signings have averaged at average. Some very good ones, some not so good, although I don't think any of us expected us to be challenging for play-offs again this year.

I think in general it's down to one simple thing... we've heard so much negativity over the last couple months due to Buckle and losing/not signing up some of our best players, so it would just be nice to hear some positives about our new regime!

I feel he will suit league 2 fine, you can doubt me or him all you want.
If you really want me to i will send you the 18 page write up on each game ive seen and the 2 pages on leadbitter.

Regarding Saah i have seen him a few times playing for cambridge when they played Forest Green, Sailsbury and Bath City. Every time he dominated and played very well. Ok against not the best teams but he showed his class. Remined me of Mark Roberts at Stevenage and he did very well in league 2.

Im sorry Bruice is that enough evidence for you, being a Pro Football coach for a championship team? I know everyone can form there own views, but ive seen a lot of players over the last two seasons and have writen reports on them. Which im happy to make my views on.
Ouch!

looking forward to brucie's comeback to that!

Can you tell me perhaps how often you have seen Leadbitter play to form a judgement that he is a good player. You can of course use the same arguement to suggest that i can't say he is rubbish (because I have not seen him play either). However with no league experience to his name either at his club or on loan and Lings assertion that he will have to "teach Leadbitter how to play league 2 football" you have got to wonder if he is a player ready for the first team aas yet. But you include him in your annoying stupid team line ups in every message.
Its the same with Saah - seen much of him have you? - to my mind its another "jury is still out" signings. The worry for me is that he was rejected by a couple of league clubs (us included) after he left Orient. sh*t normally finds its own level and you do wonder why he was not playing for a league club if he is as good as you seem to think. Even more worrying perhaps you might wonder what he was doing when Cambridge were getting shellacked by a whole host of shite teams when Ling was in charge of Cambridge.
In fact Ling's signing of Daryl Clare and paying 10k in the process is even more worrying than that. A decent player in his time but he was so far over the top when Ling signed him, he might as well have been skiing down everest.
And then there is Chris Mcphee.......
And as for Atieno - he has been released by so many clubs, they cannot all be wrong. could not get near Stevenage's first team either.
The truth is that Lings signings so far appear to lack quality, and the squad we currently have is nowhere near good enough.

Ultimately in football it doesn't always work at every club. Just because Buckle did well for us there's no guarantee he'll do well for Rovers. You can look at 100's of examples, Paul Jewell barely won a game for Derby, he's taken Bradford and Wigan to the Premiership. Good manager? Bad manager? it's just football. Same for players, Sills legend here - Oxford fans think he's crap.

Because Ling was good at Orient doesn't mena he'll be good here and the same goes for him being bad at Cambridge doesn't mean he'll be bad here. sometimes a club and the circumstances just fit people and I hope for our sake we're more an Orient than a Cambridge.

We can't judge Ling's team until January at the earliest, we must give him the time and chance to build his sqaud, then 6 months absolute minimum to bed down. If Ling can get us to 12th place or thereabouts this time next year, good stuff, job done for this year.
