Last year was a good season for Torquay and it's supporters, as any supporter with years under their belts know that supporting Torquay is a rollercoaster, which if the pattern continues means that we'll spend the season looking over our shoulder rather than up!
Yes, the close season has been fraught, Buckle leaving, in my opinion deliberately not tying down players so they can follow and continuing to delve into our squad continuing today, but is only what he did to Exeter when he came to us.
But, there are reasons to be cheerful, lots more local derbies that will get the crowd going and in voice. There are many clubs in a much worse position than us, look at Plymouth down the road, started training today with only 11 players and looking for a squad of 21! The signings by Ling for first team look solid on paper, if you don't concede you can't lose.
If anyone has a concern about the level of finance within Division II you only have to look at Swindon's fancom which has a list of transfers in and out of clubs, there are at least 8 clubs just releasing players with no replacements! At least we are getting substantial players in, the costcutting in the Division appears to be affecting most teams with only a handful seeking new players.
It is up to us to get behind our team, led by our Captain Manse who is solid yellow and will keep fighting until he is dragged from the pitch. Let the season begin, get as many friends there with you to support, because only with that revenue will we progress, but we must thank the Board for keeping us solvent whilst development of the ground continues.
And to all those players that have chosen to 'jump ship' - Good riddance, look what happened to Benyon, they'll find themselves without Buckle by Christmas when he is sacked!!
Rant over - Come on you YELLOWS
