agree with everything Trojan is saying about the "local" game and the amount of money sloshing around a number of clubs, to a point where dawlish could't even compete with most peninsula league clubs and some in the south devon league.

I remember when Dawlish Town were a local District League team (Exeter & District League) along with Tiverton, Exmouth, Elmore, Ottery, Heavitree, etc.

Back then, above District League, was Western League Division One, Western League Premier, Southern League Division One and Southern Premier. Next step after that was election to the Football League. By my reckoning, Premier Division of District League football was "Step 5".

These days there are players playing "Step 7" who expect to be paid ! From this viewpoint, consider yourself worth f'ck all and the equivalent of, back in the day, South Devon League Division Two.

Back in that time, I regularly faced former Football League players and Southern/Western League players and I knew I was facing players who could really play. Two players I faced one day in District League football were Dick Edwards and Cliff Myers, both in midfield. They gave me the run around that day and so they should've being former professionals.

The downfall of anything is greed. It's tentacles have reached down and gripped local "District League" football.

Very sad that this is true. Never enjoy seeing a club go bust, whether they be a professional club or a local amateur/semi pro one.

Its 100% true. I live in Dawlish and my grandad has been voluntering out at the club for as long as i can remeber, I used to go along with him alot when i was younger, its a great shame that its gone. Although the local people of Dawlish may moan now but where were they when the club needed thier support? Never got a decent gate

It's only a little forum discussing the same thing. Most think it's a rumour but one thinks that Newton Abbot FC have gone bust not Dawlish?

Very sad if true, always enjoyed games with them. Perhaps we'd have been more help to them by keeping them on our pre-season agenda, rather than obsessively visiting Tiverton.

Thats awful news if true. Always enjoyed the trips to Dawlish in friendlies etc. Sad loss to Devon football..

I hope no-one minds me putting this on the main board, but I have heard that Dawlish Town have gone bust tonight. Indeed their pre season friendly was postponed today.

I hope someone can give me more information and I do really hope this is not the case. After Newton Abbot's collapse the last thing South Devon could do with is another local team going to the wall.

We have played there many times in recent years and I think all TUFC supporters who have been to Dawlish would understand what a sad loss this would be if proven to be the case.
