The under 18's seem better than the previous trainees
This is exactly what I was expecting to hear.
When we re-started the youth scheme a few years ago, you had to wonder where that current crop of Under 18's had come from. After all, they'd got to that age group without being picked up by another professional club, which kind of suggests that they were deemed not good enough to make the grade. I didn't expect any youth players to come through for a while, which is why its a nice bonus to have Halpin, Yeoman, Palmer and Spear coming through.
With what would be the current Under-18's, I imagine a lot of those would have been part of the clubs set up since they were 14? In which case, we picked them up just as they are developing into "proper" footballers, and we were much more likely to find a gem on our hands.
Hopefully our next starlet is just around the corner.
