Just to say that the players were spared much if any abuse today at Bradford in a game where many deserved some for their lack of effort at the very least. I think the fans were that bored that they just couldn't be bothered to shout out!! LOL

I cant help wondering what type of man gives total and utter dog's abuse at a player from the safety of the stand, and then goes running like a little schoolboy shouting sir, sir, that boy has been nasty to me, when the player reacts, a man who needs to grow up, or a coward ? I dont know as words fail me here.

Even the most meak and mild man will snap when pushed hard enough in the end, not suggesting that Robbo is mild, however he is a human being with feelings, and i can only hope that if this is true, the club defend Robbo to the hilt.

What a knob, if thats true. I hope the club ban him for being such.

You do wonder what sort of person dishes out abuse then cries to a steward when the same is returned. I hope the regular supporter tells him he's not wanted at TQY.

I know two of our stewards Matt, and it came from one of those, have say he is not the most reliable hence when i say , the fan "may" have lodged a complaint.

Points well made Gloster and just about spot on although i would say again that if a player is having a bad game because he simply isn't making the effort then i believe the crowd has an obligation, rather than a right to let the player know that this is not acceptable. Obviously i am not saying fans can just rant and abuse him about his personal life, physical appearance etc but only to have a pop for not trying or being lazy. If a player has a bad game because he has been outclassed by his opponent or everything he tries just won't come off for whatever reason then yes, keep quiet and give support. No player should be entitled to 100% fan support all the time regardless, although in an ideal world they would get this. This is just my viewpoint however i still think that 99% of what Gloster has said is spot on.

You can pontificate all you like. But abusing a player is not just poor taste, it is also what it's name suggests. Abuse.
It doesn't matter whether it is Danny Stevens or Robbo. Ellis or Saah. It is not on when they are on the pitch.
Banter is all well and good. Fine when done lighthearted.
I can't think of any player in the last 3 or 4 years who has not put in 100% with their heart on their sleeve. If thats what they do you should at least have the human decency to keep your mouth shut and at least give them a quiet game. There is enough abuse from Bartlett and co as it is without adding to it. Trying to justify it is stooping to the sort of Level JB is at.That man constantly leaves me feeling a sense of dispair at the human race without some of you joining in.
After all most of you have jobs and in a not so direct we we may well be paying your wages. I bet you can't put in 100% every day, and you will have off days.
Being a sportsman in the public eye is hard enough when on display on the pitch. their mistakes are advertised in front of everyone. How would you like it if your mistakes were to bring about a public blasting in front of all the staff from the boss. leaving you feeling humiliated. Would you feel like working for that boss again. I bet you would be looking at the first available opportunity to find another place of employment.
The players are also human and they feel the abuse much more keenly than you think. If you think it's ok to abuse them then be prepared for some to come to your place of employment and wait for you to make the first mistake and then heap loads of public abuse at you. You will think twice.
Come on guys. This club used to have a reputation for being a friendly family club. the players cannot be perfect any more than you can. and we are not in league 2 for nothing. So we won't attract league 1 or championship players becuase we cut our cloth. unlike some. we have what we have and we should be lucky we have that. Some of the talent is very very promising. so you can't expect it all to be the same. some will be brilliant, some will be ordinary, but together they will play their part. And after all. Martin does seem to know what he is about. If he isn't hapy with any of them he will tell them, we should leave it to him.
we have had a better start than many thought so don't, please don't ,let it go to your heads.
Being a torquay supporter stands for passion, Pride and honour. Being a class above some of the morons who populate our game. Please let it stay that way.

Agreed Stevegull, i think banter between the crowd and players is fine, we saw that last season with Branston with a few away fans, and at Rovers with Bevan who grinned and put his thumbs up a couple of times at things that were said from behind the goal.

We saw it Saturday with Ellison, who was getting a fair bit of stick from the popside, he grinned and turned to the crowd and just his hands up in the air, as if to say what do you expect me to do, i am a Morecambe player, which thought was a fantastic response.

I am just hoping that we will get over this mentality of not forgiving our own players for a bad game, when other players in our squad can have a total shocker and the reaction oh well he was due a bad game we can forgive... like Ellis.

With thread i am hoping to get the message across that contantly shouting your shit at a player, and hiding behind oh we pay your wages banner helps no one, not the club, the manager or the player, as playing for TUFC becomes a chor, the player morale, confidence and performance level will drop even further, our club does not have the funds to carry one player.

Oh and will Dorothy ever take the yellow brick road. :)

Let's be clear, i don't think anyone on here would outlaw 'crowd banter', like i remember last year the Dagenham keeper had a banana in his goal and went to eat a bit and there was a bit of chanting about him being fat, he took it in good spirits and wolfed down the banana. This is the type of thing i think should be encouraged but obviously, some people have overstepped the mark here and it is really not going to help the club and help attendances if we have that kind of hostile atmosphere.

Presumabaly Trojan would rather 'Dorothy' stayed at home clicking her heels...?

Re: Player abuse(Robertson)

Dorothy is Trojan's pet name for Stevens
Even if Stevens scored a hat trick including a towering header, overhead kick and a back heel Trojan would only concede a 'not bad'

I remeber Steve Tully getting a ton of flack from the popside. I wonder what happened to him? :slap:

We all have a go at player mistakes but unless unless you have a big mouth like Harris the comments are only heard locally
Of course it doesn't help the players but I think it is only a natural reaction.
If the player does hear it only adds to their frustration, they know when they have made a mistake and are (or should be ) even more pissed off than we are
What a **** this guy is!
