It is so true. It is very hard to change an opinion once formed. My opinion on Stevens HAS changed. I have seen him a few times this season and he has quietly impressed me. He still spends large periods of games ineffective and he misses some sitters but he has improved for a run in a successful ( thus far ) team and has been knocking in a few goals. I said he wasn't good enough for league football and i suppose i have to change my mind and say he is. However, he still has lots of areas of his game that need vast improvement such as tackling not jockeying and also running at defenders more and getting crosses in but if he can address these issues then i see no reason why he can't be a success at Torquay finally. I've got to eat humble pie for now and say well done Danny.

Danny Stevens has become a real asset over the last few games. He is direct, creating chances and scoring (4 in last 7 I think) and everything that we want in a winger. There is no way he would have scored the goal he did aginst Argyle last season as he woudl not have had the confidence as I do not believe Buckle had confidence in him whereas Ling has.

I bet if he had been a new signing this season we would be quite excited about him after the last month or so, but he has baggage. It is very hard to change people's opinions once they have been formed, no matter how much he does. fans are quick to judge mistakes and not see what he adds to the team. IMO he has outperformed Bodin recently but people are still judging him by previous seasons.

Long may his form continue.

I agree with the originator of this Post. Danny has had the proverbial Kick up the butt he needed and with a decent run of games has proved himself despite his long winded critisisors who will never acknowledge his worth.
And while we are on the subject where is Trojan? after all his name of Dorothy has still not been retracted. I still maintain Alan should be staked naked to the center circle untill he recants his support of The Gargyles upon pain of a whipping by barbed wire by Westbay.(go on Westbay you know you want to) :whip:

Not in my opinion, no. If I was to be pedantic I'd say Olejnik, Saah (until he went off), Ellis, Bodin, Nico and Mansell all had a better first half than he did. Danny wasted a lot of possession in the first half and ended up running down blind alleys instead of cutting inside like I would assume he's supposed to, being a right footed player playing out on the left. When he did start doing that in the second half he had much more impact on the game.

By the way, you didn't need to change your username just to have a decent argument ;-)

what pleased me about saturday with regard Danny, was as has been correctly stated, he didn't do well in the first half (along with the rest), but the Danny of old would've been substituted after an hour as he would not have raised his game in the second half in the way he did on saturday - that's what a bit of confidence and belief can do, and Ling has obviously been able to instil that in a way the previous manager couldn't

Father Jack wrote: Soton, you could level the same accusation at pretty much all the players in the first 45.
It was drab and uninspiring, remarkably similar to such performances as that against Gillingham.
That was followed up by moments of magic from Eunan and Danny in the second when we controlled the game, playing Plymouth off the park (and showing them up for the very poor team that they are) for the first 30 minutes.

Yes you could, but this is a Stevens thread, just replying about the threads subject ;-)

he's one of a few players who have a) been given a chance in recent weeks and most importantly b) taken it. Ellis, Stevens, Lathrope been put into the side in this new formation and the results are there to be seen. It also seems to be bringing the best out of Howe and O Kane who for me are our 2 most important and best players from an attacking sense, which was the 1 thing we had to do. Find a way of making them more influential in games.
