Only in the unlikely event that Swindon didn't offer him a new contract. If they do, and he turns it down and signs for us then unless we could agree a fee with Swindon the transfer fee would be set by a tribunal. All of this applies to players under the age of 24.

I believe Billy Bodin's Swindon contract expires next April, when, presumably, he will be free to choose a club with no fee hanging over any deal?

They really are spoilt for choice when it comes to strikers and I really cannot see young Bodin getting a look in there if he does return in January. He will surely spend the rest of the season kicking his heels in the Reserves - not even competing in a League as they pulled out in the summer!

That said, I do worry what sort of valuation they might put on young Billy and the omens aren't good! AFC Bournemouth came in with a couple of bids for their winger Matt Ritchie on Deadline Day with a bid of £250k apparently on the table - a lot of money for what is after all only a League 2 side these days - the bid was turned down though and PDC has since slapped a £2million valuation on the player ! I fear PDC is still living in the Premiership ! We can only hope that Paul Bodin has some sort of input and that a sensible fee (no doubt with a significant sell on to safeguard them) can be agreed with his old mate Martin Ling! Fingers crossed.
I heard it was £400k.

He's referring to Paul Bodin, Billys ex welsh international dad, ex Swindon player and current Swindon coach/scout. Hopefully, if Benson does go to Swindon and move Billy further down the pecking order, then Paul Bodin can influence the Swindon hierarchy to let Billy go and get first team football without asking the world.

If the club are planning to try and bring Bodin permanetly then i think January is the time to do it, if he continue's to perform well for us, our club would more than likely get out bid in the summer, however i think it's more likely we will have him on loan to the season's end though.

Where some may feel the club has lost out on Billy Kee, the permanent signing of Bodin would more than fill the gap to me.

It appears, on the face of it at least, to be a very similar situation to the one we had when we so very nearly signed Charlie Ademeno from Crawley Town on Transfer Deadline Day in early February 2010 - unfortunately, as we know, the fax confiming the deal arrived at FL HQ just minutes after the deadline had passed. The FL stood their ground and Ademeno remained a Crawley Town player.

Now it seems we have a very similar situation with the "transfer" of Paul Benson from Charlton Athletic to Swindon Town. It appears to be acknowledged by Swindon Town that the paperwork for the transfer although all in order and completed before the 5pm deadline last Thursday did not in fact get faxed through until a few minutes after the deadline. On that basis, you would expect the FL to refuse to sanction the move but Swindon Town are a "bigger" club than us and PDC is already alluding to one rule for the Premiership clubs and another for the rest. However, in this instance, I think we would have every right to complain to the Football League if they allowed this deal to go through! :rules:
