There's no need to "prove" anything. He got a red, deservedly, won't be appealing and will serve his ban.

Given the perspective from the camera, and the fact that you can't tell which way the foot was moving, that photograph doesn't really prove anything.

Just for the record on 'Spotlight' last night Chris Hargreaves said that he thought a red card was "a bit harsh". Also how did Greavsie manage to look so good in his bright red christmas jumper resplendent with snowmen and christmas tree ? Anyone else would have looked silly

This takes the p*** a bit:

That would have been a frivilous appeal, given that their guy swung a punch at Ellis right in front of the referee. Gutted my arse, he definitely wanted christmas off. If their appeal had been successful, I would have encouraged us to do that same it was that clear cut a decision.

Oh, and having seen the footage and particularly that photo, I concede that Rene deserved to go. It certainly didn't look like that first time round, but then Rene's legs were concealed by Winnard's body and couldn't see where he aimed for.

What happened to the 'old pros trick' to get himself a break over christmas?

Don't think I've ever seen the board so divided. Personally, I've watched it a few times and don't think it's malicious and a blatant red card, but for the damage he did it was probably worth one. To me it looks as if he thinks he's going to get to the ball so starts to stick a foot out, then realises the defender's going to put it out for a throw so half pulls out, and ends up with a foot in completely the wrong place. Shame he used his most explosive bit of pace I've ever seen from him to get there.

Just seen it, no argument from me, few seasons ago he may have got away with a yellow card, now thats a red card all day long.

What makes it worse for me, is you can see the Accy player is going to get the ball first, and looks as if Rene has time to pull out of the challenge, if he had it's a throw in to us, and still 11.v.11 with every chance of getting back in the game.

That confirms it then, definite red :)

Alex, he didn't come in from behind and he didn't tackle Howe either. He slid in to play the ball before Howe got there.

Think it was unavoidable to be honest. There lad came in from behind to tackle Howe as he was going forward and Howe's clearly accidently caught him due to the way the Accy lad went in to tackle him..

I was all for defending Rene and saying it was a yellow. The pic is hard to argue with.

Case closed, not that I ever had any doubts myself.

It still doesn't show a deliberate act but even without that it was a definite red, unfortunate and I hope Winnard doesn't suffer any lasting effects.
