But I would back Martin Ling to be able to put a side out that could beat a BSP side in the 4th round of a cup competition. All Buckle's cup pedigree disintegrated in that one moment, not one shot on target.

Then in the second round in the FA Cup we played a very good and large club in Sheffield United away when the team and club were determined to win for Gary Speed. To add to that, we played very well overall and just had a moment when we lost it, but defintley deserved a replay. So in short, I think it's very unfair to say that we had better success with Buckle in the cup runs, when Ling has only had one season with us.
totally agree

To be fair to Martin Ling though, our cup exploits last season were ended away to two of the top teams in the Championship (and now playing Premier League football) in Southampton and League 1's Sheffield United, where without a few minutes of madness, we could have so easily caused an upset.

Many of Buckles cup successes were at home most of the time as well, which gave us a better chance of causing an upset.

It seemed that he was a man quite adept at sending out a team in a one off match which, really, we had no right to win, and get a result. Can't think of any ready examples (aside from Leeds and Burnley in the PSF) but I'm sure there is a basis to this belief.

Still, as good as Leicester are (and they really are very good indeed), no real reason why we shouldn't cause an upset, I guess.

Matt.
Completely agree. Our cup runs under Buckle really were remarkable. Even when we did lose to higher opposition I always felt watching as if we could have won the game. However, Ling might have the same ability and was just unlucky last campaign. I guess we'll find out in the coming cup fixtures...

We took Reading all the way a few years ago at home, why not Leicester. The only concern of mine is that it has been years since we made it into Round 2. 2001 if I remember, an away tie at Tottenham?

As if Leicester will be bothered about it, they'll treat it as a game where they can play fringe players and get through, a PSF in essence. We can treat it as our opener, our first competetive encounter against the favourites for Championship promotion. We can get in their faces, try and play a bit of football and cause an upset. A win for us i reckon. Am i right in saying that there will be no replay if it's a draw?
You certainly are right. No replays in the "Captial One" League Cup.

I'd have said the same, but after seeing how we started against another Championship side in the form of Leeds, I'm not so sure.

But if we start like how we finished against Leeds, it may be a closer game than you think. Let's hope the fitness is up to scratch, the team spirit is sky high and we can put on a good performance.

There were three other threads started, somewhat prematurely, on this match in the Capital One League Cup:

by rachii12 on 13 June, by nicktufc on 14 June, and by me on 30 June (having somehow missed the other threads)!

Might be a good idea to combine them all now...

Torquay United v Leicester City, Tuesday 14 August 2012

Should be a good game. Leicester are a fine Championship side and will be a big test for the Gulls. Their most famous name is probably Schmeichel (Kasper, son of Peter), a great goalkeeping pedigree.

But I think we'll be quite capable of winning this one.
