I tried to make a post after coming back from Shrewsbury but somehow hit the wrong button and it all deleted. Shame.. IT took me best part of an hour to type it all out, but here was the jist of it as this post seems to conjure up the atmosphere again.
I stood back several times upon hearing the new european chants to feel and see what it looked like from another perspective. The whole stand was rocking. Quite literaly. There was a sea of yellow and blue with a noise that made your hair stand on end. The emotion flowing from the away end at The Greenouse Meadow that Night (should people really be playing ball games inside a greenhouse?) Will be long remembered in the annuls of Plainmoor folklore. Against a history on the fans forum from Opposition fans taunting us that we would not take more than 300, over 700 turned up to fill our away end with a writing sea of Humanity who's only aim was to support the guys in yellow toward a famous victory. from a club who's total support was approximatly a qaurter of Shrewsburys to take more than a quarter of our average home gate to a long distance away game in the evening was notihing short of "Quite remarkable" to qoute a famous commentator. Against Shrewsburys paltry show of only 600 odd supporters which avaeraged out at less than 1o% of their gates. .
There was a welcome of sorts. Many supporters showed willing but there were unfortunatly a few that didn't. But was I ever proud that none of our supporters didn't bite back. they just got on with their own job of showing the boys that TUFC was written through our bones like a stick of Blackpool rock.
The chants were often and varied. among some of the best I noted a remark about a smoke bomb that some nutter hurled about their own stand to be greeted with "Is that your fire drill". I did make more than the odd smirk. "Yellow Army" was intersperced with "Stand up if you love Torquay" and Torquay Till I die" . "Torquay. Torquay. Torquay". "We are United". The new St Pauli chant. and many more. The whole evening was a study in Euphoria and passion. The fans behaviour was noted several times by the stewards who wer used to much more than what Shrewsbury usualy gave them being stewards for Wolves and Birmingham and "The Villa"
I was so proud of the fans when the head Steward commented that it was indeed a rare day to see fans who were interested more in the football than baiting the other fans. They felt they had an easy day. Which tended to be born out when some of thier idiots decided it would be fun to have a go. Where did the stewards go. To the other fans and just left us alone to get on with our own cheering.
I know we will go to Old Trafford with the sole aim to cheering our lads onto a famous victory and I for one certainly hope so. I know the The place will be rocking even though it will feel almost empty. But I know that the noise we can make with or without the drum we will send the decibals searing off the scale.
We will be a sea of Yellow and blue. a heaving sea of human emotion waving back and forth being the twelth man hoping agains hope that it will be our name and ribbons on the trophy at the end of the day.
And further to that hoping against hope that it will be One Paul Buckle who stays and leads us into the new dawn in league 1.
