With the end of 2011 on the horizon, I'd thought it would be fun to see our opinions on how we feel the Gulls 2011 has gone. Apologies if this is on the wrong board but I felt this would gain more exposure on the main board. I look forward to seeing everyone's opinions.
Best match of 2011 and why?
Bristol Rovers 1-2 Torquay. Everything about that day was brilliant. Getting one over on Buckle, brilliant atmosphere from the yellow army and a wonderful performance.
Worst match of 2011 and why?
Torquay 0-1 Crawley (FA Cup) The fact we lost to Crawley was one thing, but for them to draw Man Utd away made my blood boil. S*ite weekend.
TUFC Player of 2011?
Tough choice but I have to say Guy Branston. The work he did for us in our play-off season was top class and he was solid as a rock in most of his matches for us.
TUFC Young Player of 2011 (21 or under)
Without a doubt, Eunan O Kane. Has a bright future in a higher level sooner rather than later
Worst Player of 2011?
This may seem unfair but I have to say Brian Saah for two reasons. One, based on the performances I've seen, Brian Saah hasn't been brilliant. And two, I can't think of anyone else at this point. Seemed to pick up some well needed confidence before his injury. Hopefully he will come back and prove me wrong once again.
Best signing of 2011?
Bobby Olejnik. Top class keeper. Got us out of trouble on numerous occasions.
Worst Signing of 2011?
Chris McPhee. Don't rate him as a league striker. Maybe unfair but I havent been impressed with him so far this season.
Where did you expect TUFC to be in the table at the end of the year from the start of the season?
15th. Would have been happy to be lower mid-table at this stage at the beginning of the season.
Where do you expect Torquay to finish come the end of 2012?
I would say 8th, still in League Two.
Out of 10, how would you rate Torquay United's 2011?
7/10. To make the play-off final was a brilliant feat for a club who ended the previous season in 17th place. Yes we lost but we have gained so much after that. Lingy has proven to be a breath of fresh air around the club and some of the signings he's brought in like Howe and Olejnik have been top class. The future looks bright.
