Re: Torquay United v Morecambe - 27/10/12
Broadly agree with Nick, although I thought that Craig was MOM because he showed what quality there was, with the exception of the excellent Howe. Downes and Saah struggled in the 2nd half, more to do with the sun that the Shrimps. Leadbitter does look a good option at RB bringing the ball forward quickly, on occaision going past his man. Needs to build confidence and judgement. Bodin worked hard, but should have had a least 1 from the 3 good chances he had. First view from the Bench, which was good visually but little atmosphere, only once did C'mon you Yellows' really ring across the ground at a corner during the second half. I suppose it is good in a way to secure a boring 1-0 after the drama in the week.

Re: Torquay United v Burton Albion - 22/9/12
I agree and I think if you add Lathrope to pair Mansell you have a very good team. As last season Lathrope is key. The back four is as good as last year. GK not quite matching up but good enough. Change to 442 in games by bringing Macklin on and shuffling the forward pack if needed.jocktheknife wrote:I'm not sure we need to tinker with the formation much....with the right personnel the 4-5-1 has been proved to be fine, for the squad we have, if we had a fox in the box type striker rather than Jarvis....then 4-4-2 would give us a better plan B.
I agree that Bodin on the left and Thompson on the right looks potentially our best pairing on the wings......and Nathan Craig looks the only midfielder in the squad creative enough to fill the huge void left by O'Kane playing just behind Howe.
With that front four.....we have a chance of troubling the top half of this league.

Yeah, good job Rene is so big and fat that the keeper managed to hit his arse with the clearance.jonnyfive wrote:

Isn't it about players coming through the youth set-up who started a game in the ist team. Matt Hockely must have made his debut before Benefield.

Re: Torquay United v Cheltenham Town - 21/8/12
Good performance, although we should have had it won after an hour. I was please to see Macklin do well, although in the 15 minutes before half time he seemed to switch to a different wavelength to everybody else, which is probably the problem. He needs game time. Morris continues to divide opinion. I though he work hard an play well although within his performance there were a couple of horrible gaffs. Overll, a good night at the footie.

I'm not so sure. When the members club was first mentioned I was pretty keen. Then it all seemed to go quiet. All in all, the marketing was pretty poor.

Re: Torquay United v Leicester City - 14/8/12
Agreed. The difference was pace, strength and size. We worked ourselves into some good positions but were eventually muscled out and when they got the ball they poured forward. Morris had a good chance and Mansell made the keeper save from a header. Thompson's was an interesting cameo, looked nervous and lost at first. However, when he got the ball to feet he flew past Konchesky and crossed hard and low, a little bit of what we need I think.forevertufc wrote:Don't be to down hearted about this, the gulf in class between us and Leicester was huge they underlined why they are amongst the favourites to go up from the Championship, out of the teams from the Championship I have seen us play in cup compitions don't think I have seen a team attack with such pace and power that Leicester did, they were simply to quick and to strong , even at the back they were physical we are not going to come up against sides in league 2 anywhere near to the team we played tonight.
There were some positives, mainly in the first half we did get the ball down and at times played a bit football ourselves and did create a couple of chances, and the other positive to me is Saah and Downes allready seemed to have formed a solid partnership they did well at times to defend and hold out constant Leicester attacks and will not be tested like that during the course of the season.
Downes looks a quailty signing my man of the match, along with Saah and Howe.

I agree, lets show that Torquay is the place where he can build his football career. If he continues to show the form reported he will make a big difference.

Agree. Always rated him. 40 games is a good run, he may just have had a good season.

Tai didn't strike me as being particularly lazy, I noticed him chasing down a couple of balls. However, he didn't suffer comparison with Rene. A few months ago there was debate about how should start. I think recently Rene has shown how good he is. Nothing against Tai who I think is a worthy member of the squad.

Re: Torquay United v Crewe Alexandra - 28/4/12
I thought we were the better team and had the better chances and really should have been two up through either Mansell or Jarvis in the second. Didn't think it was a pen, but that is immaterial. Poor defensive header from Oastler at the end, he was of balance and tried to head the ball back where it came from, ended up looping in the air. Just needed to help it out to touch.
Still a great effort from the boys.

Ellis did a reasonable job, crunching him on the halfway line in the second half!

Re: Tired Legs
Gullscorer wrote:It's reported that Rene Howe believes he can keep on defying a painful injury and lead the Gulls' attack right to the end of the season. Rene did not score against Southend, and apart from the Southend game he has not been playing a full ninety minutes in recent matches. With his injury he may not score in the last three games. Is it worth that risk?
It's understandable for a manager to want to keep a settled team, and it's understandable for a player nursing an injury to want to fight through it to play his part in the team's success. But whether it's tired legs or a pulled ham-string, if it causes the team to fall short of the performance it should be achieving, then there are other players waiting who can and should come in to do the job. Otherwise what are they there for?
I've no doubt Martin Ling knows his job and will make the right decisions. And results may not turn out differently whatever the team selection. But an injured player on the pitch thinking he can play his normal game is not good for my nerves.. 8-o
Based on his performance against Southend he should continue playing. Playing with injury is part of being professional sportsman. He'll just focus on preparation, playing and recovery supported by the staff.
