Kings Lynn v Torquay 12/03/2022

Yesterday was a memorable game for me as it my son's first game (he watched most of last season with me during lockdowns). I think he was more impressed with his half time hotdog and kitkat than the quality of football on display..

We were stood with a friend who is a former Bristol Rovers player and who dabbled in lower league management a long time ago. I agreed with his opinion that we were far too lightweight in midfield and the defence was rather ropey (Omar). MacDonald is a good keeper and kept us in the game, I don't blame him for getting caught off his line - it was a great strike. Our squad is not lacking in talent but we did not play to our strengths yesterday. Nice to see some goals in the sunshine.

Friendly staff, plenty of street parking and a roof over the terrace overall a pleasant away day and not too far away at all from us LincolnshireGulls. I hope they stay up for next season.

Grimsby next month. COYY

National League | Torquay United v Stockport County | 03/10/20 3pm KO

Enjoyed the stream, well done to all involved.

As others have said the Subs were the game changers and brought several waves of enjoyable, attacking, football. The deflected shot onto crossbar had me out my seat, as did their keepers' excellent save from Britton's improbable tight angle shot.

Covolan made a couple of quality saves, and of course Nemane saved our bacon.

I wouldn't say County were robbed but they will certainly be travelling home feeling they deserved something!

Fixtures 2020/21

Not questioning the chaps TUFC credentials, he's just boring af. I'll subscribe and watch the games but I think they could get others in to make it a better product. The other guy (Ray?) is good.

A while back they had various former/injured players helping out on online commentary/summarising. Asa Hall last couple of seasons was fairly good. Before that I remember Craig Easton being fairly radio friendly.

I guess my point is they've done a good job at getting this service online. The broadcast is limited to one camera angle and the picture quality is unlikely to improve, that's accepted. I'll pay or subscribe to whatever live content we put out but I think if they brought someone in with a bit more energy rather than harping on about wishing referees well then it'd enhance the broadcast. Give DT the 15 mins dead air time whilst everyone gets a brew at half time.

Spooky...

Hopefully we can put a good run together in the league and get on BT a couple of times.

Macclesfield Town have been wound up - owe more than £500,000.

The first of many?

Without some clever budgeting, or novel income ideas there must be plenty of clubs staring down the barrel. This year I'll buy a couple of shirts at full price as a token to put a little cash into the club.

Fixtures 2020/21

Should Away fans be permitted then I will attend at least Notts County, Kings Lynn and Chesterfield. With the latter likely being my son's first game. Hope to make a home game towards the end of the season too.

I wonder how likely we are to continue televising the live streams of the games? For £4 a pop (or higher!) I'd happily subscribe to a season of home streams. Commentary has generally been ok, but they must get someone more interesting than Dave Thomas to act as a summariser...

MOTM - Chelmsford + Away Estimate

I struggled to identify who was who due to this league not displaying platers names.

Dickson
Niate
MacDonald
Regis
Hall

For my tuppence I thought Keating was utter tripe, ball chasing to no effect, he made it to the box once I think and was soon surrounded and threat mitigated.

And I'd estimate between 250-300 away fans.

Chelmsford City Vs Torquay United - 4/8/18

chunkygull wrote: 04 Aug 2018, 15:57 Ahhhh, the Sherpa van shirt, wish I had got that one. I did have a yellow Sherpa van final jumper though. First home kit I bought was the following season which was similar. Didnt have a home shirt until 97-98 play off season, never had one since as most are crap.

I went for the 95/97 home, yellow and blue stripes with nice collar. Incidentallt, selling my purple away shirt (xl)

Had the white and funky blue stripes as a second choice - not sure the year on that one, any ideas?

Chelmsford City Vs Torquay United - 4/8/18

Hard game to play yesterday not because of the pitch, or opposition but the sheer heat, well done to the referee and team for scheduling two water breaks.

As for the game, stifled by the weather mostly, a couple of chances for Chelmsford who certainly looked more confident, and a goal line clearance for us in the final minutes. Hopefully that is an indication of us being a 90+5 minute team this year able to push the part time teams in the final 20 minutes or so.

A note on the teams, we were dominant in height and technical skill whereas they were dominating game management through their NLS-experienced defender (number 6). The language used by their managing team was disgraceful and I was surprised to see it go unpunished considering how loud they were - apparently they have a reputation. The stadium wasn't a footballing one and that's all that should be said.

The opposition fans were mostly pleasant and took an interest in our squad and team history, I say mostly because there were some absolute throbbers - obscene language considering the number of youngsters knocking around. But then again, every club has them - including ours.

Disappointed at lack of goal mouth action but you can't fault the players from either team, the heat was a most levelling factor.

New signing Rhys Healey

Ignore list! Problem solved.

On Healey - Hopefully can bang some in and prove his pedigree and fitness following his recent, terrible, injury. It's probably too late but at least we're trying and good on him for coming down to us, hardly the most appetising of places to be, bottom of the NL!

As an aside, another poster questioned whether Healey will be our 41st or 42nd player this season, I'd noticed the names coming in but hadn't kept up with the arithmetic, that's a staggering stat and would be a good quiz question - name the squad players 17/18.
