Live @ Plainmoor

I have been invited back to Plainmoor to help with the resurrection of Live @ Plainmoor which met with some success several years ago. The plan is to organise a variety of events including live music, quiz nights, sportsman’s dinners etc. in the hope of generating much needed funds for the Club.
Working within the limitations of the space available, I hope to be able to provide a variety of different events in an attempt to entice people to part with their money. Hopefully, there will be something for everyone over the next few months.
We kick off with an old favourite.....my interpretation of what constitutes a damn good Quiz Night. This particular quiz is on ]Friday 30th September starting at 7.00pm but doors open for food and drink from 6.00pm. There is sufficient space for 20 teams (each team is made up of 5 people) plus a few supporters and hangers-on. The cost is £8.00 per team, teams play for pride rather than rich rewards although there is a bottle of something wet for the winners. There is also the chance to win amazing prizes in the inevitable raffle.
I hope that if you live locally you will feel moved to attend some of these events. Failing that, please bring this to the attention of your friends and relatives.
Many thanks,
Andrew

Torquay United v Eastleigh

I have just been up to the ground. The Groundsmen had been working on it last night and this morning using the tractor to verti-drain the whole pitch. Chris said that there are a few puddled areas that he is working on but at the moment he is reasonably confident that if we do not get any more heavy prolonged rain then there should not be a problem. Sun is currently shining, so fingers crossed.

Kids for Free. The Economic Argument

It is calculated as Taxilady indicates and is a requirement of the Safety Advisory Group that everyone in the ground (for whatever reason) is included in the calculation. The reason is that the Club does not exceed capacity ( not much chance at the moment) and that there is a record of all people in the ground should there be a need for an evacuation. Lists are held of people in the ground who do not come through the turnstile i.e stewards, corporate hospitality, volunteer groundstaff etc. Hope this helps.

Great minds may think alike !!!

I think Matt might be referring to me Hector. My mother forgets who I am sometimes so I shouldn't worry about it. I thank Matt for his observations but I don't really want to get drawn in to a game of "who was better than whom" as those types of discussions can quickly spiral in to lots of negative comments which I don't think would be helpful at this point. To me it is important to have a legitimate channel of communication with supporters who want to contribute ideas and actual support to help the Club try and put some of those ideas in to practice. We had a fairly successful Focus Group for several years and achieved one or two very good initiatives, but as with most things it needs time and commitment. However, from reading the other contributions on this thread that commitment and energy may exist from within the fan base and therefore a new Focus Group might be something the Club wants to consider re-introducing.

There have been some more very generous comments so once again I want to say a big thank you. I won't clog up the site with any more postings of this nature but rest assured your kind words mean a great deal to me. I will still be involved but not in any official capacity. Best wishes, Andrew

Thank you all for your comments. I will still be around in the background and I am pleased that I am part of the equation that allows Stephen to commit his time to Torquay United. It has been my privilege to work for the Club and I am very grateful for the ideas, suggestions and support from this forum. I look forward to standing in my usual place on the Popside next season.

Yellowfest Tickets Offer

It was a great day and the "old has beens" as you have called them were magnificent , the local bands were also first class. It was an amazing sight to see so many people dancing on the pitch and in Bristows Bench. It is reasonable to assume that everyone had a good time and would return next year. Just a shame that a few more did not turn up. 10cc were exceptional and truly professional.

YELLOWFEST 2015

I appreciate that there are a number of concerns on this site that I cannot comment on, so apologies for posting a non-footballing item. However, given the income potential I have to continue on the basis of "business as usual" so it is with pleasure that I announce the launch of Yellowfest. The press release is reproduced below:
"Torquay United AFC is very pleased to announce the launch of Yellowfest its first music concert inside the Launa Windows Stadium, Plainmoor, Torquay. This unique event will take place on Saturday, 9th May 2015 with doors opening at 12.00 noon and finishing at 11.00pm
Headlining will be the legendary 10cc with an array of hits including I’m Not In Love, Dreadlock Holiday, Rubber Bullets, Donna, Art For Art’s Sake, The Things We Do For Love, I’m Mandy Fly Me, The Wall Street Shuffle and many more.
Also appearing are Glenn Tilbrook and Chris Difford who performed and produced many hits with Squeeze, including "Cool for Cats", "Up the Junction", "Another Nail in My Heart", "Pulling Mussels (From the Shell)", "Tempted", and "Annie Get Your Gun".
There will also be first class performances from local bands including, These Reigning Days, Three Bags Full, The Simmertones, Tesserae and The Esplanades.
Further details, including how to purchase tickets can be found by visiting our website www.torquayunited.com or by ringing 01803 328666"
Tickets will be on sale from tomorrow. Please spread the word to any music loving friends.
Best regards,
Andrew

Matchday experience .. maybe for A CANDY?

Sorry that I have not formally replied but I have been very busy at the moment. As Taxilady correctly points out, I cannot always reply to a number of issues but I do take note of what is posted and will try and take action where appropriate. This is one of those occasions. We are looking at aspects of the match day experience and hope to introduce some minor changes soon.
Best regards,
Andrew

Ideas for Mr Candy

Hi Nick,
I have drawn the Chairman's attention to some of the concerns being expressed on different fans forums and Thea is fully aware that there is a desire to see new players brought in. I imagine these matters will be discussed as part of the business of the next Board meeting which is scheduled for a couple of weeks time. I cannot say at this point whether anything is likely to change as a result, but I will continue to keep the Board aware of the feelings being voiced by fans on forums and those that approach the Club direct. I am sorry that I cannot be more specific at the moment.
Best regards,
Andrew

Where did it all go wrong.....

Thank you CP Gull for your kind and "insightful" comments which I appreciate. I do struggle to contribute on here at times because as I am sure that you understand, there are many threads where it would be wrong for me to do so. This is one of those threads but I appreciate your personal observations!

KEEP THE BLUE SHORTS

Thank you for your comments on the blue shorts which I can confirm will be our home colours at least until the end of this season, possibly beyond that as well. I would like to clarify that the "mix up" was nothing to do with Joma our kit manufacturers, who have been very helpful and supportive in helping us resolve this matter with the Football Conference in a timely fashion.
