Torquay v Lincoln Sat. 3 Sept. (k.o. 5:30 pm) match thread

Just watched the highlights and although we had plenty of chances, Lincoln definitely put us under pressure in both halves.

They are clearly a strong side that will be up there challenging based on last night but it was great that we went toe to toe with them for most of the game.

Not the result we wanted and the manner we lost in was disappointing having held out for so long. All in all though, I think the better team won. That's not to say we couldn't have nicked a winner at the end though.

Feeling much more positive about this season than last and hopefully Nicho can get us up into mid table safety.

New Share Issue In Torquay United F. C.

Let's be clear here. A share issue relating to ownership should not be confused with revenue raising schemes such as the player fund.

PERCEPTION AND REALITY

I personally can't see why it would cost anything to buy the club. All that would be needed would be a bit of cash in the bank to cover losses and help with cashflow.

500 people putting in 5 pound a month gives you 30 grand a year. We can't be a million miles away from that already. If TUST ownership is a real possibility, then surely we can double that figure. In 2 years we are sitting on 120 grand. Add in the Torquay Fans Ltd supposed megabucks and we can own the club in a relatively short period.

2 years to put the structure in place to manage the club and hand over in stages.

I also think it would go a long way to proving the TUST worth and create goodwill with the club if they actually started organising events such as yellowfest themselves. 50% of any profit to the club and 50%to the TUST. Win win.

Nice to see our subs having an impact tonight. We look to have some interesting options from the bench. Which is nice........

MOTM - Bromley

Verma - best player on the pitch for me. Classy and composed. Boy has he become a good player.
Gerring - solid
Williams - wanted the ball and made some good movement to get it
Richards - level headed, breaking up play
Young - fitness is getting there and quality on the ball

Should Courtney take arm band ?????

I'm actually fairly happy with this choice. Very much in the Lee Mansell mould which in my view is what you want in a captain.

Cash injection needed

People are failing to see that on 1,800 crowds that means last year we had 1,400 paying on the day (roughly), which is income all through the year. We now will only have potentially 800 people paying on the gate through the year. That means a massive drop in income. To demonstrate where I am coming from, my back of a fag packet calcs (using estimates).

Last year
400 (season tickets) x £300 = £120k
1,400 (pay on the gate) x 23 (home games) x £15 (average as we have a load of old codgers supporting us) = £483k

£603k total

This year
1000 x £200 = £200k
800 x 23 x £15 = £276k

£476k total.

You are gambling on the 600 new season ticket holders spending an additional £125k across the year. That is a massive gap to plug. 3,250 additional shirts sold. 35,750 additional pints in the gulls nest. 42,000 additional pies sold.

Be interested to see how much people put in the fund now, but it is needed more than ever, make no mistake.

Maths eh.......

Cash injection needed

My concerns are that whoever came up with the £200 season ticket deal has put us in the brown stuff, much as we were last season when we were paying off the previous incumbents........

800 season tickets x £100 = £80,000 lost revenue.

PSF Torquay v Plymouth matchday

Argyle fans really are a different breed. After going 1-0 up in the first half, they started chanting "we're going to win the league, we're going to win the league, and now you better believe us, we're going to win the league". Made oi larf.

Oh, and to call their goal a header is stretching it a bit. Looked like it hit him on the back or arse!

Good pre season performance from us. Courtenay Richards played well as did Angus, Moore and Blisset. Feeling positive for the season now. 2400 crowd with 1200 Argyle there.

New Owners

The reason we are attractive to GI is not because we are loss making.

Offsetting losses within a group of companies is standard practice in business but ultimately there needs to be a reason for owning the loss making company (club). In our case, that reason will be building the stadium and potential redevelopment of Plainmoor.

New Owners

The financial structure and motives of the new owners are all that matters. We need people on the inside to fight the club's corner or we could end up getting sold down the river. I hope Dave Phillips will do this but he needs to be objective in his dealings with the new owners. Once the deal is done, any influence over the decisions affecting our club will probably disappear out the window.

Good signing in my opinion. I think he's done fine when called upon and a full pre season should improve his fitness.

Retained list out!

Nicho has stated he only wants players who want to be here so it's that or money why Iffy Allen isn't in his plans. Does he have an agent touting him around perhaps?

Racchi would have been the ideal anchor man for us and brings much needed balance to the side. It's a shame he won't be staying but if the budgets not there.... At least he's pragmatic about it and it's nice to see him show appreciation for our support.

Ajala has not done a great deal yet but I think if anyone can bring the best out of him, Nicho can. There's a good player in there for sure.
