Management options

DuckDuckGull wrote: 18 Aug 2017, 13:15 I think we have to be realistic. The main thing is a manager who can settle a sinking ship (which we are and anyone who says otherwise is in denial). This is done by showing loyalty to a club and also by contacts at clubs to help signings. A strong coaching background is also important in my eyes. As I mentioned with the opening thread the managers mentioned offer that. Mark Collier for example currently has players on loan from Chelsea and Bristol City so must have good contacts at the clubs? Also his assistant is an ex pro who has played in the football league for Swindon and Reading so could offer further contacts? Budget is important and loan players will be needed. I wouldnt mind a player from Chelsea thats for sure.
Tony Boyce always used to say that any Torquay United manager needed three things above all else: contacts, contacts and contacts.

Colin Lee's mantra was always recruitment, recruitment and recruitment.

New Stadium

This is an example of a team who plan to move to a new stadium by 2020.

Meet Lingy!

Lingy was and looked very well, I even got him to sign my copy of Living on the Volcano by Michael Calvin, the first chapter of which was about him.
The score I believe, unless I'm mistaken, 8-2 to the Torquay old boys, unfortunately I am unable to tell you how much money was raised.

If GI fail getting the freehold...

threelittlepiglets wrote: 17 May 2017, 09:28 If GI do fail in getting the freehold would they want a fast exit from TUFC?

We know there are not the buyers if anything is to be taken from the most rescent sale attempt.

If as I believe GI have already had to invest to keep the club going, in addition the original loan, would they in effect allow the club to dissolve.

The problem for me is that I can't see which is best and which is worst case.

No doubt will be a shakey few months...
They could allow the club to slide towards Administration rather than dissolve in the first instance, but that would mean they would be forced to accept in the region of 10p in the pound or less for their original investment.

I would imagine that they would want to recoup as much of their original investment as possible, I'm not sure how realistic that would be though.

The Play Offs

It wouldn't surprise me if Lincoln continue their journey under the Cowley brothers and win promotion to League One next season.

Developing players and squads

Apparently when Barry Hayles was at Truro, he used to train on his own in London during the week and only meet up with his teammates on match days.

If we don't win at Solihull on Tuesday...

northlondongull wrote: 27 Feb 2017, 11:22 If that's true then please get me Colin Lee's number!
If they (GI) want to engage with local people, then (Colin Lee) is the perfect person.

Geoff Harrop on his way back?

Regardless of his intentions, he's not somebody in the mould of someone like Michael Dunford, ie experienced football administrator.

Geoff Harrop on his way back?

One reservation I would have if became manager, and it's a pretty big one, would be his lack of experience at managing and coaching at senior level.
It would be a world of difference to anything that he would have been used to before.

PLAINMOOR FOR SALE?

Neal wrote: Probably yes. That's exactly what they would do. But it depends on your view, my view is that someone or TUST would step in, maybe a Pheonix club but with a home at Plainmoor. But remember, even if TUST took control, it could be that the club is still for sale to an interested Football loving party.

Starting from a fresh start, no debts, just the income generated by true, real fans would be a challenge and in my opinion an entertaining journey. Free from all this sh*te and directors with God knows motives. The worst scenario is being controlled by non footballing property developers strangling the club with whatever rent they deemed they could extract from us.

Now, someone alluded to the fact that any new ground maybe owned by the council AND the tenancy agreement was no worse than the one we have now. This maybe possible, I don't know, but to me very very unlikely.

For me the home of Torquay utd should remain at Plainmoor. Even if it means a phoenix club. Of course GI could be even more spiteful, just fold the club, pay the rent BUT don't sell the Football club, but this might be against the terms of the lease I don't know.

As long as the 1000 to 2000 fans of TUFC stick together, we will always have a football club, what league it is in, God knows. But Im ready to participate and help all I can.
If there was a way of GI getting their £120k back then the first part of this post doesn't necessarily need to happen. Perhaps?

GI are based in Swindon, so therefore not Midlands and to the best of my knowledge Dean Edwards is still based in Torbay, but apparently was contemplating relocating home to Wolverhampton a while ago.
