Chris Brandon, left us for money, but was my favourite player when I was a bey, went on to play for Chesterfield I think, very talented winger.

5 favourite/best players since watching TUFC
Just imagine...
OLEJNIK
WOODS BRANSTON HAZELL
HOCKLEY
BRANDON RUSSELL O'KANE HILL
GRAHAM JACK
Bench: SOUTHALL, TAYLOR, CANOVILLE, MANSELL, FOWLER, KUFFOUR, SHARPE (just for the player he became, and cos I couldn't think of any wingers for the bench!)

5 worst/least favourite players since watching TUFC
John Gayle: Horrendous, see his beautiful spooning of the ball over the bar against Barnet in THAT match for an example of what I remember him for.
Jason Rees: Scored a goal against Barnet. Dire apart from that.
Paul Holmes: I only saw him during his second term with us, but for me he just summed up everything bad about 'English' football. Would get the ball and, without fail, hoof it down the wing. Yuck.
Gary Brabin: Not much I can say that hasn't already been said. An overweight Jason Rees.
Habib Sissoko: Much the same as John Gayle, they'd make a LETHAL pairing.
Eifion Williams : Andy can say what he likes, but THIS man remains the biggest waste of money we have ever spent. Take away his debut hat-trick and he averages a goal every five games or so. Would miss chance after chance, I remember "Willoooo, Willoooo" echoing from the popside when he returned with Hartlepool, making a complete hash of every shot he took.
Jamie Attwell : You almost, ALMOST felt sorry for him.

Excellent, nice to see that both the "in the know" posters on here (at let as far as Brassy is concerned, Paul John) are both now saying he will sign next week .... could well turn out to be our best signing of the summer as Knill without Brass just doesn't seem quite right!
"CHRIS BRASS is expected to finalise the deal to confirm him as assistant manager to new Torquay United boss Alan Knill next week."

TOP 5 - STAND UP COMEDIANS.
I dunno if I'd call him pure stand up, because he's so much more than that, but Eddie Izzard is a GENIUS ![Glasses :)](./images/smilies/glasses.gif)
Rhod GIlbert is very funny in that 'say stuff and it's funny cos he's angry and Welsh' kind of way, I also really enjoyed Michael McIntyre's 'Showtime' DVD. He's not stand-up, but Tim Minchin is also hilarious.
Have to give honourable mentions to Jethro, Omid Djalili, Ed Byrne, and Frankie Boyle.
Of course, let us not forget the man who nobody has EVER liked yet was somehow HUGE in the 90s, Jim Davidson.
On a personal note, I like Lee Evans a lot when he stands and tells jokes, but not so much when he just says stuff in a funny voice and pulls faces, so my attitude towards him is pretty ambivalent, and I completely agree with the TS on George Carlin, a true legend.

2013/14 Away Kit
Personally, I think that there should be TWO kits per club, and regulations dictating a range of colours that your away shirt must be chosen from depending on the primary colour(s) of your home shirt. I remember a couple of seasons a go, Barcelona had an away shirt that was basically their home colours with the blue a little more prevalent. Absolute joke, all just an attempt to gain a slight advantage.

A random thread.
I think there were massive issues with his work rate and attitude, but certainly in terms of pure ability I can't think of any better. Such a shame for him that he chose to move, it destroyed his career, imagine if he'd stayed here, where we could be as a club and the player he could have become.

Player to bring in (suggestions)
I've heard Amankwaah's name mentioned a few time in relation to the right back spot by people wanting him, can I just confirm that this is the same player who quite literally could not pass the ball to a team-mate when we played them? Sure, he's big and strong, but I'd hope that we'd aspire to something more than that in a player...

Re: The Gaming Thread
Yeah, the games have definitely got harder, but I find them all the more engrossing for it. Also, YES!!! My most anticipated game for a long time!!Plymgull wrote:My favourite ever game is without a doubt The Elder Scrolls Morrowind. I played that game far too much back in 2003 to about 2006.
I've bought every Championship manager game from 00/01 to Football Manager 13. I took our beloved Torquay to the premiership on CM 01/02 and have never been able to achieve that in any game since. I'm not very good.
Couple of games i am looking forward to this year are, GTA V,Total war Rome 2 and Europa Universalis IV.![]()
Does anybody do much PC gaming? I've always been PC for RTS and Championship/Football Manager, as well as the AMAZING DayZ (if you haven't played it, why not?), but now I've decided I'm gonna do away with consoles altogether, as they're becoming ridiculously overpriced, and PC games are a tenner cheaper on release, too. I want to get FIFA 13 for the PC, but I've heard that sometimes the PC version is just a rehash of former games with new squads. I HATED FIFA 12 (AI for runs was ridiculous) but loved 13, so don't wanna take this chance, anyone know if the game is updated or just a rehash of 12?

Who do you want in cup & league first games?
I'd just like to avoid the usual 'get a Championship club in first cup game, play valiantly but get knocked out'. It's kinda the perennial opposite to our FA Cup campaigns, which go 'get a lower league club, play terribly, get knocked out'. Cup runs can bring in lots of cash, attract new supporters to the club, and generally give a season a big lift; for a club like us, progressing a little further in a cup could go a LONG way.

Ummm...it's blue. But yeah, I do agree, anyway, should be red, though I don't really like the design in general, it's just too retro for me. Ick.Yellow4life wrote:The black NEEDS to be red, simple.

Davids to stay at Barnet playing 'attractive football'
http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/22612643
"He has started a football revolution here and we hope we can maintain our new, attractive style of play."
I have to say that, as a boy my fondest football memories were supporting Davids, Cocu, de Boer, Kluivert, Bergkamp et al with that blind passion that only childhood can bring, and never expecting to be able to see him play in the flesh, actually watching him was utterly disappointing. The team of niggly, falling down, just nasty footballers that he has constructed is one of the most distasteful I have EVER seen at Plainmoor, and whilst I wouldn't wish relegation on any club's supporters, in Barnet's case I felt that justice had been more than slightly served. As for the football they played, I saw nothing different to any other 'stylish' League 2 side's tactic of 'pass to wing, try to beat man, cross'.
Personally, seeing the general disdain for Davids on the Barnet forums, have to say this goes down as one of the most surprising choices of retaining a manager this season for me. Was he contracted for next season? If so, I guess the spectre of a pay-off for a recently relegated club was too large to stomach, as many on here speculated would have been the case with Lingy.

Re: Player to bring in (suggestions)
Just imagine the carnage with Bayo and Rene up front, or either of them with Benyon. Guessing Rene has been given a fairly big contract offer, so if he doesn't sign it, then extend the offer to Bayo for a season, he's proved that he's still a potent force at this level.

Re: Torquay Fans Player of the Season
Interesting reading, although a slight bone to pick in that an 'All Time Team' should be the best XI individuals, not repeats of the same player. The section above it with the best scores seems more appropriate for that, in my most humble opinion.
