Hargreaves, Hodges and Veysey on Gardening leave

Bit shocked by this. Not because I think Hargreaves deserved to stay as manager but financially isn't this going to cripple us even more? We still have to honour the trio's contracts unless they are hired elsewhere and now we have to pay to replace them (although I'm guessing we won't have the luxury of a new assistant).

Interesting decision. Would be nice to know who's calling the shots from the consortium - we don't even know who the chairman is yet but I suspect all will be revealed tomorrow. The communication from the club has already improved though - a significant update on the website on a Sunday and not a sniff of it being reported elsewhere before the news broke. And those 10 members certainly know how to keep a secret!

Kevin Nicholson player-manager anyone?

Consortium update

Only three names have been confirmed so far:

Dean Edwards
Steve Breed
Mark Bowen

Potential Signings

Listening to last season's radio commentaries, it's quite obvious Steve Breed isn't Hargreaves' biggest fan. It's quite funny he could end up being his boss - bet Hargreaves won't keep him waiting for a post-match interview next season if the deal goes through! Even if every member of the consortium thinks we need a new manager it's going to cost a lot of money to replace Hargreaves so it might make more sense to run down his contract (assuming it's not rolling) as we're unlikely to do much next season with or without Hargreaves at the helm. Going to be a very interesting week...

Club Ownership

So the 10-man Edwards consortium - as it's now being referred to - also consists of Mark Bowen of MB Insolvency along with Steve Breed. Three down, seven to go. I have no idea of the other identities but wouldn't mind Alex Rowe and the Boyces being part of that group but that's pure speculation on my part.

Bit more on Mark Bowen here: http://m.torquayheraldexpress.co.uk/chu ... story.html

Seems like he would be a good fit given our precarious position.

Talks Reopen

I would guess that the 'healthy list' consists of the TUST, local consortium involving Steve Breed and possibly the current board members. However, the fact that we are still inviting others to enter the fray suggests none of those groups are close to completing a takeover. Back to square one and the clock is ticking.

Takeover 50/50 ?

Still nothing on .com or the Twitter feed. There are a lot of fans who don't use the forums and may not go on the HE or WMN site. They probably still think the takeover is on the brink of completion. Absolutely pathetic. Is anybody actually doing any f*****g work at the club?

Takeover 50/50 ?

CP Gull wrote:Further clarification here ...

http://www.westernmorningnews.co.uk/Tor ... story.html?

So, as suggested on here and on the BTPIR forum over a week ago, we now have the OFFICIAL confirmation that the takeover by the "preferred" bidder has indeed collapsed and furthermore Kelvin Thomas has indeed ended his association with TUFC and returned to Florida, probably never to return! Easy money if you can get it, eh Kelvin!

Thomas hints at the reasons as to why the takeover failed to complete, without going into detail, but cites a "material change in circumstances" in the case of the bidder. Could it just be the result of the Southern League Play Off Final, I wonder?????

So, we are now left with what remains of the Board, left "holding the baby" ( all 4 of them?) and desperately trying to seek further investment or indeed move the club on to new owners. Unfortunately the time wasted, by the time wasters who were behind the initial "preferred" bid could prove extremely costly to the football club, it's future survival and even if it survives what sort of shape it will be left in come August.

Great job Kelvin Thomas, I should erase any connection you ever had with Torquay United Football Club from your CV, if I was you - but hey, you've no doubt banked a (considerable) few more dollars .... so job done!

Thea, being the kind lady that she is, thanks Kevin for all his hard work (?) and is looking forward to seeing us play Tiverton next season .... Oh dear, has anyone told her that we will probably be playing them home and away in the League too at this rate!
Bit harsh on Kelvin, CP Gull. In his own words, "The role I undertook was always a short term one with an agreed stop date which has passed, with the most important aspect ensuring that Thea was not continuing to fund the club moving forward, which we were able to achieve."

Big round of applause for Kelvin Thomas. What an incredible achievement.

KT: "Erm, Thea, you need to stop giving the club your money."

TB: "I never thought of that. Genius. How much will that pearl of wisdom cost me?"

KT: "£100k."

TB: "Bargain! Give Mickey Mouse my regards."

Quite frankly, I would be embarrassed to pocket that money if I was Kelvin Thomas. He has FAILED what he was paid to do. He was brought in to find a buyer and that hasn't happened. I only hope the speculated figure above is totally inaccurate and was dependent on whether the takeover was completed. Now he's buggered off back to Disneyland and left us in a worse position than when he arrived.

Apparently, this deal had collapsed or was on the verge of collapsing last week. So why has it taken until now for this information to be made public? As of last night, the TUST hasn't heard anything from the club. Surely, as soon as Kelvin/Thea realised that this deal was in danger of not being completed, they should have been on the phone to Michael and released a statement. Time is of the essence and they have wasted weeks and months which puts the TUST and Steve Breed group at a huge disadvantage with the Conference deadline looming.

Rather worringly, Thea has chucked £200k into the club since stepping down as chairman two months ago. That's an obscene amount of money in such a short space of time and means we're losing well over £3k a day! I appreciate everything she has done but the less I say about the below quote the better!

"Whilst it hasn’t been great news about this possible deal I hope there will be others and it is good to see yesterday that preseason plans are well under way with the announcement of the Tiverton fixture."

Takeover 50/50 ?

So does anybody have an idea what the accounts figures will be for this season? I know it's not released to the public until next year but how close do we think it will be to the £542k losses we've recently reported for the season before last?

Although Thea is kindly clearing that £542k debt, am I right in saying she will not be covering this season's losses which means the new owners will not really be taking on a debt-free club?

Retained list

Prynn and Odofin have both tweeted that they've been offered professional contracts. Not sure if they're the only two (obviously aside from Ives and Lavercombe).

That ends any chance of a windfall then as we included a sell-on fee when we sold him to Posh. I think he was voted their POTS last year but his stock must have fallen rapidly as he's had a couple of loan spells away from London Road. We can only dream of having a keeper of his quality in the near future! I'm sure he'll get fixed up with a L1/2 side.

Takeover 50/50 ?

I wish I could be as positive as some other posters. After reading the Herald article, my unqualified opinion is that the deal has fallen through and now we're back to square one which means the door is back open for the TUST and current directors. Hopefully I'm wrong but I can't help but think Kelvin Thomas's quotes about not rushing into a decision is more positive spin from the hierarchy to hide what is really going on. And I'm sure David Thomas won't interrogate him as his head appears to be in the clouds, although my first question to KT would be; "What have you actually done in the four months you have been at the club?"

Bring back nicho

I wouldn't be surprised if Truro made a cheeky offer for him. Let's face it - he's limiting his options by living in Torquay. I suppose Cheltenham or a return to Forest Green could fit the bill but would they be interested? I still think he can do a job in the Conference but not here. Wish him the best though.

Always had Stanley down as an arrogant git but didn't see what he did to deserve the torrent of abuse from Hill in that match.

Can't help feel that the best two teams are in the final and to be honest I can't see Grimsby getting behind Rovers solid defensive back line often enough to cause enough problems.
Stanley wasn't happy about being subbed and said something to Hill as he walked past him. I'm not an expert lip reader but I thought he said "Always the same, always the effing same" which led to the handbags. Good thing somebody intervened because Hill was absolutely fuming. Was quite funny to watch. Stanley will surely be leaving now. He was very good for us but doubt we could afford his wages.

Is Geoff Harrop worth his money ?

Tomogull made a interesting point earlier about if the TUST could help finance the academy if it is threatened with closure. I'm sure some current members would be willing to contribute more money if it was going to help shape the future of the club and a good cause like this would appeal to the wider community and attract more members who may not necessarily support TUFC.
