4th & 5th get home play off match so it is an advantage.desperado wrote: ↑20 Apr 2023, 12:34 My brain hurts after reading all that -
Very good - but I wish you would spell
AltrinCham correctly !
Think we have to win both, can't see Maidenhead or York losing both games
Don't think it matters if Barnet finish 4th 5th or 6th does it ? So will they be going for it ?
Agree we have to win both and even if we do we'll still be favourites to go down.
Altrincham - Sorry - I've been spelling it wrong for ever. Only just realised now you've pointed it out!

So the new situation is (excluding very unlikely changes in goal difference):
If we lose at Altringham we will be relegated on Saturday.
If we draw at Altringham we will be relegated on Saturday unless York lose to Aldershot or Maidenhead lose to Barnet.
If we draw at Altringham we can’t be relegated on Saturday.
If we get two points from Altringham & Wrexham we will be relegated.
If we get four points from Altringham & Wrexham we will be relegated unless York or Maidenhead lose both of their games.
If we beat both Altringham & Wrexham we will be relegated unless York or Maidenhead get only two points from their final two games or Aldershot lose both of their games.
Although four points gives us a chance we really have to win both games then hope -
Aldershot - I can’t see failing to beat Altringham on the last day so we want them to win at York.
York – May well beat Aldershot (whether they drew or lost wouldn’t actually make any difference to us if we get two wins) but if they don’t we have to hope they’ll don’t win at Notts County, who are obviously a much better team but will have nothing to play for.
Maidenhead – May well lose to Barnet who need points for a home play off game. Whether they drew or lost wouldn’t actually make any difference to us if we get two wins. Then we need them to fail to win at Gateshead who have been on good form but have nothing to play for.
If we, Maidenhead & York all win on Saturday we’d go into the last game needing to beat Wrexham & hope that Aldershot lose at home to Altringham. Not a good scenario. News of Altringham’s first goal would kill the day at Plainmoor.

I’ve thought all along that home to Wrexham who have already won the league would be a more likely win that chesterfield away. I think we can still win both of our games but am not so sure about any of the other teams dropping enough points.

So now we need to win both games and hope that one of York or Maidenhead fail to win either of theirs or Aldershot lose both theirs.

I think it will need more than 50 points.Mr Tea808 wrote: ↑17 Apr 2023, 20:58 I can't see Gateshead or Dorking getting dragged back into things, both clubs form has been superb, fair play to both of them, Dorking never been at this level but a credit to the league, and Gateshead have battled against the odds, got to the Trophy final, and recently won 7 on the spin?, with Newcastle United on their doorstep, playing in an athletics arena, it can't be easy, but I take my hat off to both clubs, I heard Mark Cooper being interviewed on Saturday saying Yeovil are down, so he knows and admits that, although technically they aren't, last relagation spot is between Gulls, Aldershot,York and Maidenhead, no one else now, I think 50points will get safety.
For that to be safety mark with us having the worst goal difference, it would need one of York or Maidenhead to lose both of their games or Aldershot to pick up only one point.

Yes I think Maidenhead are the team we are most likely to catch but it will help if Gateshead still need points when they play them last game of the season.
Likewise Altringham at Aldershot.

Clutching at straws, but if Dorking win at Gateshead tonight and Gateshead lose at Boreham Wood & Woking they might not be safe when they play Maidenhead last game, which would help. Unless they know a draw would see them both safe.

Will we stay up?
In summary:
Assuming there are no unlikely changes in goal difference:
If we get one win (3 points = 49) we can only stay up if:
Aldershot lose all 3 of their games.
or Maidenhead lose both of their games and we make a GD of 3.
If we get one win and a draw (4 points = 50) we can only stay up if:
Aldershot gain only one point.
or one of York & Maidenhead lose both of their games.
If we get one win and a two draws (5 points = 51) we can only stay up if:
Aldershot gain only two points.
or one of York & Maidenhead gain only one point. (or Maidenhead two points and we make up GD of 3).
If we get two wins (6 points = 52) we can only stay up if:
Aldershot gain only three points.
or one of York & Maidenhead gain only two points. (or Maidenhead three points and we make up GD of 3).
If we get two wins and a draw (7 points = 53) we can only stay up if:
Aldershot gain only four points.
or one of York & Maidenhead gain only three points. (or Maidenhead four points and we make up GD of 3).
If we get three wins (9 points = 55) we will stay up (as York have to play Aldershot).
My feeling is that we’ll need 7 points.

I think we may well need more than 50.
At least there are three teams that we can catch but York may well get points at Notts Co who will probably have nothing to play for. However likewise we can get something from Wrexham.
It won’t be all over if we lose at Chesterfield and getting just a point there wouldn’t be too bad.

I hadn’t thought of that.Stickingitin wrote: ↑15 Apr 2023, 18:58 Altincham have a huge say in what goes on in the last three games.
Obviously we need to win all three which isn't impossible so long as the players stay fit.
If Altrincham have a bad game against Dagenham their next game is against us, all going to plan and their final game is against Aldershot.
The implications of a final day Hollywood ending are getting closer and closer.
Altringham could still need to get something at Aldershot on the last day in which case Aldershot may not get the win that otherwise would be likely.

Hopefully will need less.

I still think we need 3 more wins.
As well as our results, York v Aldershot will be key, plus whether Notts Co or Wrexham have won the league before the last games.
