Torquay v Barrow 26th October

What an important win that was. Considering the conditions both teams played really well. You could see Barrows tactics of drawing us short then going long into the channels. You can see why Barrows forwards have scored goals. They have pace and strength and you could see by their first goal what they are all about. The first 20 min was pretty even but Barrow's made the break through with a well taken goal from a tough angle. Defensively it was poor from us.
I thought Vincent in particular played very well in the first half. We were causing them problems with Whitfield and Little counter attacking fast and they never seemed to deal with it though out the game.
The sending off obviously had a big bearing on the game and after that I thought we were comfortable and played some really nice football.
At the break I could see the Barrow manager waiting at the tunnel to see the ref. The experience of GJ was apparent keeping our lads on the pitch until they went in.
Fair play to Barrow in the second half they tried to make a good go at it and for 10-15 min we struggled.
Having the options from the bench makes a big difference for us, although Kalvin didn't have his finest moments.
For me Little was excellent and my mom, I really hope this injury is not to serious.
Reid today confirmed to me that he is the top striker in this league, not only for his goals but his pass to Little was different class.
Jake Andrews needs to do more defensively , what a player he can be if he improves that part of his game.
Fair play to the 76 Barrow fans, kept singing and supporting their team. They will certainly be right up there.

Torquay Vs Boreham wood Fa Cup 4th qualifying round19.10

I thought we found the first 20min tough going with BW having most of the possession and they looked dangerous out wide with their fullbacks will to attack. We gradually got into the game and started to create more opportunities. It was quite amusing reading a previous thread regarding our lack of adventure from set pieces and corners when we score from a short corner. I hope it was a planned move because the growns from the fellas around me when we took it short and then to score!!
Then Jamie Reid scored an excellent goal.
Now there have been few calling for Shaun M to return to the starting 11. So what happened for the penalty?? Complete balls up. Did he call for it and Liam Davis waited?? Why take the player out??
I thought BW started the 2nd half brighter and it was a big relief to get the third. We then played some really good football and I thought we would score again when another mistake gifts them a second.

My thoughts Cundy absolutely outstanding, Liam Davis and Wynter excellent. Little getting back to fitness and doing well. Reid, that was some goal.

Tshimanga 0 Jamie Reid 1
Off to the next round!!

New signing: Immanuelson Duku

I can see why GJ signed him and he looked ok in pre season until he got a heavy challenge and was injured. CLE then signed and our formation changed. To be fair to him its been a bit stop start and he hasnt been given a consistent starting position. Maybe he hasnt deserved a starting opportunity. IMO he needs to take his chance when it comes and keep working hard. We will soon see if he has the stomach for it. If he doesnt the it will be a short stay.

Notts County v Torquay United 12/10/19 3pm

Two form sides go head to head. Neal Ardley has a strong squad so this has the potential for a very good game. They seem to have good competition for places.
To be honest i really think we can get something out of this game. We are a fast counter attacking side who are scoring goals away from home. If we can keep it tight with no mistakes i really think we can get something.

Torquay United v AFC Fylde 5/10/19

I think we have to consider the opposition yesterday. Fylde are a strong side regardless of there current league position. If we had lost the game there would have been many saying that we need more experience etc etc. We won and I don't care how.
We appear to be more effective as a counter attacking side, we are comfortable with the opposition having possession and striking with speed and pace down each flank. We are not comfortable with hoffing the ball long in the direction of Jamie Reid and expecting him to compete with 2-3 defenders. So at times I think we get confused and lose our game plan and you see the keeper hit it long and wasteful and then you see Cameron hit a long crossfield ball that Kalvin is never going to win. Yesterday Cameron hit 3-4 and we got caught.
So we loose our direction and that happened yesterday in the second half. We are far more effective with the ball on the ground and playing at a high tempo.
I was delighted for Buse yesterday, he's made a considerable step up and is doing well, maybe he has more than we think. There were signs yesterday of him popping up in advanced positions so what a finish and great celebrations with the popside.
I thought Cundy was very strong yesterday and we are now starting to see what a player he can be. Whitfield just doesn't stop running, I wish a could bottle up some of his energy.

Torquay VS Eastleigh 7:45 24.9

I would nt criticize Reid's work rate. It doesn't matter who plays up front because we are not creating the chances. Last year our midfield was strong and we were creating chances from everywhere. So far this season due to injuries we have not been able to select our strongest midfield, so its become difficult. We are not creating anything like the chances of last season. Obviously moving up a division makes things even tougher. You can play whatever combination you like up front but until we get a hold of midfield it s not going to happen.
Last Saturday for the 1st half Reid was up front alone, how's he suppose to operate with no quality service in the areas of his strengths.

Torquay VS Eastleigh 7:45 24.9

I left the ground last night probably the most frustrated and annoyed in sometime. How on earth did we manage to lose that game, of course we want to blame somebody for that performance and result.
Its easy to single out players however the management need to look at their decisions over the last two home games.
The warning was there last night within the first few minutes down our left, their No 11 had the beating of Liam Davis and produced 3-4 crosses that caused us all sorts of problems just in the 1st half.
Jake Andrews has to do better defensively, Buse was being dragged out wide to try and assist Davis. That is not acceptable. I do feel for Buse tbh, he's been asked to do a job and by and large he has done his best. He's stepped up in divisions and you cant criticize his workrate. On Saturday we had Kalvin who was totally anonymous so it cant be easy defensively when faced with this.
We didnt look solid at the back all evening, both full backs didnt have great games and Cameron is just not performing at the level you expect from him. I actually thought Cundy did ok and looked very solid.
I was frustrated with our keeper last night, he makes several good saves but causes us problems with his distribution and you could see an accident waiting to happen, we totally gave it away.
GJ makes in my opinion the wrong substitution on 80 min (i think) and takes Whitfield off for Kalvin, Whitfield didnt appear injured and as he walks off onto the pop side area they bloody score.
Kalvin gets one opportunity and puts in a fantastic cross and nobody manages to get on the end of it.
In my mind we totally gave that game away. Of course our injuries are affecting things however we had that game in the bag last night.
