Torquay United v Maidenhead United 13/8/19
You have to give Maidenhead credit for their performance. They had done their homework on us. They let us have possession sat back and pounced when their opportunity came.
At the moment to me we are playing in a mindset that the opponents are National League South. Defensively we have been poor. That is not just the back 4 and keeper, its as a team. Offensively in the last third we have to be more clinical. However last nights starting 11 at home playing Jamie Reid as a lone striker??
Last season for example Kalala had the freedom and against NLS players, nobody could get near him. We all know he has the talent and ability to compete. Last night you could see how frustrated he was getting. He went very narrow when it was crying out for width. He then becomes less effective.
We still need to show patience.
GJ knows the game inside out and it will take time.

Kevin Nicholson - appointed head of coaching at Exeter
Good luck to Nico, he's put everything into his development, I hope he enjoys it. Hopefully one day TUFC will have a successful youth system like there's.

Totally disagree with your first comment, however he does need to improve his work rate and defensive responsibilities.Hammdog2601 wrote: ↑07 Aug 2019, 23:39 Andrews is shit, lazy too slow. I liked him last season. This season during pre season he’s been so lazy.

I think you may change your mind about Buse at Left Back if you saw the how it went in pre season when he played at RBHammdog2601 wrote: ↑07 Aug 2019, 20:17 I hope Keating and Andrews are left at home, Buse and Touray on the bench. I’d even go as far as starting Buse Left back!

Its a fair point tomogull, I think the way GJ wants to play with a high tempo game I don't think any of our offensive players will consistently play 90min, you could say the same about Jake Andrews and Kalvin to some degree.
His pace coming off the bench is such a great asset to have though. I think he just needs to be injury free and build his confidence, he certainly has a bright future ahead of him.

Pleased to start the season off with a win. BW were a physical side who can keep the ball well and with their attacking players they will create and score goals, you can see if you give them the opportunities they will punish you, and there is the evidence of moving up a division. Defensively we will not get away with mistakes and indecision. The sending off incident obviously changed the game and hopefully our lad is ok.
Upto the sending off it was a bit of a battle, BW can play and certainly had their fair share of possession.
From our perspective I don't think Jake Andrews is as effective on the right and with Kalala not the most defensively minded player Vincent had a difficult spell in the game.
GJ didn't take too after the break before he decided to change things around, we needed to change the system and increase the tempo, if you could lay one criticism at BW their fitness didn't look the best and down a player we needed to make a change.
To me it was just like last season when these lads arrived, instantly the tempo increased. CLE player just behind Jamie Reid which caused BW instant problems, Opi has rapid pace and ability. Then for a 20 min spell we totally controlled the tempo and created several chances with their keeper making 2-3 really good saves. Opi's goal came from a good move and you could see his delight when he scored, last season was tough for him with his injuries so Im delighted for him. Jamie Reids goal was a top strike. We are then cruising when defensively we make a mistake and BW score. Its then 5-10 min of BW pushing for the equaliser.
Our game management at that time was poor and GJ wont be happy with that.
I think for the first time in a long while I looked at our bench and it is extremely strong. We will definitely need that over the season.
My thoughts regarding the formation and starting players. Jake Andrews on the right??Niate as some have already mentioned has an error in him, I question whether he has the tools to make the step up, time will tell.
I will be interested to see GJ 's starting 11 in mid week.

Looking forward as always to our first game. Not easy to select the starting 11. One thing for sure that we will create chances and Im confident of a victory today.
But i also think that we do have to show some patience.

What a great game that was. Firstly a mention to the Argle fans , great to see so many turning up, I cant remember seeing the away end so full, maybe when Leeds came down 4-5 years ago in the pre season?? Pitch looked great.
What i like in GJ is that whenever you pull the shirt on as a player he demands 100%. He wants/expects to win every game. That performance last night was right up there. Argle couldnt live with our intensity and tempo. Armani Little's free kick !! That was top draw. He gives us that extra physicality that i feel we need. Excellent signing. Duku reminds me of Zebroski a bit.He just seemed to slot in next to Jamie Reid and it looked like they had played together for ages.
Kalvin on his day is just a joy to watch, Argle just couldnt get near him last night. Frankie Vincent at left back, who d of thought that? He did extremely well.
Once again we created so many opportunities.
A nice moment seeing Louie Slough come on for Niate. A proud moment for Mum and Dad watching and especially for those who know Alan Slough(Grandad) who hasnt had the best of health recently.

If my memory is correct Leadbitter was Lings first signing after being released by Newcastle. I watched him in his first game away at Tiverton in a pre season friendly and your correct he was ripid, unfortunately he had an injury which prevented him from starting for a couple of months during that first season. He was very highly rated.brucie wrote: ↑10 May 2019, 11:24 Leadbitter would be a good signing.
Saw him in one of his early appearances at Plainmoor - not sure if he came on as a sub early in the game - but he was terrific getting up and down the pitch and he got a standing ovation.
Think we had the useless Dale Tonge at the same time who was the regular full back. Think Leadbitter got released and we kept Tonge - astonishing really. Not surprising that Leadbitter went on to do better at Bristol Rovers.
