Gary Johnson, stick or twist?
Someone can correct me but i dont think TUFC pay a penny towards the youth set up. Its a S.Devon College set up. It was my understanding that TUFC did take on 2 players every season. Looks good for the club however in reality as you mention how many actually get given a chance. Those 2 players get loaned out never to be seen. It happens every year.

How can any supporter defend Johnson and these performances. We are getting worse and with this squad he's compiled i fear its going to take something very special to get out of this mess.

Its a fair point Nick but the way GJ wants to use a 4-3-3 and play at a fast tempo it makes it increasingly difficult as every player needs to be on it. I don't think Asa is able to play this way. Its hardly surprising with his injuries over the last few years. Of course he does bring so much more especially from set pieces etc however I don't think playing this way is suited for Asa.
How many games will we get out of him 20 if we are lucky.

If we are talking about an injury free fit Asa Hall then no question he makes a starting 11. However towards the end of the season when he did start or came on he looked a lot slower and leggy. It really did show when the game transitioned, he struggled to keep up or get back.
I m told that he is still not 100%. Maybe he would be better suited to drop back into defence.
IMO unless he's 100% then he doesn't start.

Retained List 2022/23
These lads who come through from the U18 never get given the opportunity. Over the last few seasons two boys get signed and never get any chances. It happens time and time again. We are shocking at the development of these lads. The club couldn't give a stuff if the truth be known. It just feels like its a yearly deal that gets done with the college.
I hope Louie goes off and proves them all wrong. Its plain to see that he has huge potential. There were several times during this season that Olaf and Louie could have been given a chance to make an impact.
So wait for the next two lads to come through and the same will happen again. Its piss poor imo . I want to see us develop our local talent and give them the opportunity.

We could and probably should have been 3-4 up after 20 min. D & R were all over the place , they couldn't get to grip with the conditions and our formation and the speed and intensity. After that 20min it was like we blew ourselves out and it was all D & R. We had a few counter attacks until HT. 2nd half D & R gave us a football lesson. We were all over the place and hanging on. We did get a few counter attack opportunities but we were lucky to hang on tbh.
Considering the poor playing conditions D & R are the best attacking side I ve seen at Plainmoor this season.
A mention to Shaun M who made some fine saves and also Lewis and Moxey with some last ditch defending and blocks.
There were certainly a few calamity moments which i guess on that pitch was quite comical.

How is GJ going to turn this around? He's made a complete f!"£$ up of the recruitment and he cant get his team playing. There are big problems within this squad. There is no way they are playing for him. The morale must be at rock bottom.
He cannot get any consistency apart from conceding goals.
Admitting that he,s got us into this mess is about the only true statement that's come out of his mouth recently.

2 Weeks to Work on Set Pieces.
I agree with what Forevertufc posts regarding Armani and set pieces.
I think we need to look deeper into why we have started the season so poorly. There will be many opinions surrounding our recruitment , mentality, ability and a whole load of other stuff which has contributed to such a poor start. There is no single answer and to blame a single player is ridiculous.
For me the first 10-15 min at home to Woking tells you a lot about us and where we are going wrong and where and how we have to improve.
I think there are questions to be asked about individual players. Are you really giving 100% to your trade on and off the field??
Its alot more than just waiting for players to bed in, its a culture , a mentality to strive to improve in every area of the game.
