No, & no,
Yesterday at Oxford, it appears that he played his second reasonable game in a row after 12 months of being poor. No danger of him playing well again on saturday then! Thank goodness we have now got some decent young kids that will, I.M.O. prove to be "up for it" & far better than Nicky Wroe. We will be able to get shot of him in the summer, because as you know he wan't to go back up north.

In our promotion season in 03/04 etc Home Park cheered the news of our promotion, and they often give a little 'waheey' at half time when Torquay are winning and the scores are being read out. Of course if we end up both in league 2 next season, a strong rivalry will be held between the clubs, but Exeter are the ones both clubs dislike with a passion!!

City like to claim that their only derby is Plymouth, but I think we all know after some of the derbys they secretly hate us too. As soon as Tisdale leaves they will be back in league 2 with us sooner or later, and maybe even Plymouth! Now that would be some season!
Don't think that we have any problems with Argyle doing well, look at the great players that we have signed from them over the years, surely it would be in Tqys interest if Plymouth were prem. league, we would be able to loan some good kids from them. It would not hurt for Devon to have a side in the prem. & lets face it , Tqy & Exeter will never get there.

Re: Plainmoor

Suggest you bring a Fortnum & Mason hamper with you mate. The refreshments here don't cater for those with discerning palates from exotic places like South Yorkshire.

Jeff wrote:Not a great draw - I think the Stags fan above has it right in saying it isn't really either teams perfect choice!

Mansfield will definately be thinking they can win this, and rightly so as they have some names in their squad which ring a bell (Keigan Parker, Rob Duffy, Adam Murray, TT, Alan Marriott to name but a few). I have to be honest though, they've slipped a little off the radar in their time in the conference and although I'd heard of all the above players, apart from the obvious two I can't really say I've seen much of any members of their squad to gauge how strong they really are.

On the plus side its a game I can go to, and a new ground for me to tick off. I just hope for me its not a fruitless journey!
Would not be a bit surprised if T.T. did not get the better of us we should never have got rid of him, far more class than Super (poor & ineffective) Nicky Wroe. Adam Murray could also be a problem.

Re: Nicky Wroe on his way!??

Sending Wroe out on loan & getting another team to pay his wages for the rest of his contract is similar to receiving a fee for him. Lets assume that he has £30,000 worth of wages left on his contract, then Torquay have saved £30,000, or if you like are £30,000 better off than they would have been. This of course only holds true if P.B. does not intend to select him again.

Fletch wrote: Wodge - it seems pretty well covered that NW turned down a new contract. Is it in the interest of the club the he stays till summer and leaves for free, or should we try and get a fee for him in the January window?
Yes, but he may have been offered a new contract on less money due to present lack of funds. Tqy. could have tried to tempt him with less money, but security. He appears to have rejected the new contract so it would seem that it is not as good as his existing one.
Of course the club will try to get a fee for him now, but I doubt that northern clubs will want to pay for him when they can get him for free at the end of the season. In any case they will know that he wants to go north,& taking him on loan will be favorite as Tqy. will be keen to save his wages, & maybe use them to pay a new striker.

Re: Nicky Wroe on his way!??

I can't see him playing for Torquay again under P.B. [see Woods, Sills, Hargreaves]. Buckle for whatever reason has placed him on the transfer list & want's to see him off to another club. No doubt N.W. wants 1st. team football so it's in everyones best interest to loan him out to any interested parties for the rest of the season. If he does well at his new club they may pay a small fee to sign him.

Don't think that Torquay would want to loan him out to a team in the same div.

Re: Nicky Wroe on his way!??

Define temporary, I can't remember the last good game he had, I think it was when "The Old King" was still around.
In any case time will tell, Grimsby are desperate for a decent B.S.P. midfielder, & a loan spell up North, may be just the thing. Not too far from Barnsley either so you will be able to pop over & see him. Good luck to him at his new club.

i dont mind opinions, but im sorry mate i disagree.

he is league 2 standard at least on any day of the week.
Would you want him in your L2 side on his current form? I think not! Would not be amazed if he is loaned out for remainder of the season, possibly to B.S.P or Conference North or South team.

I.M.O. he will never be better than a decent Conference player, he has scored the occasional "wonder goal" & up to lately was a good penalty specialist. I don't blame P.B. for not getting rid of him for a good fee when there was interest expressed at the start of last season, he was worth keeping to see if he could make the "step up".

I don't expect that his new club will pay a fee for him, & would not be surprised if Torquay don't have to keep paying most of his wages until his contract is up.

I assume that SNW refers to: off form for at least the last 12 months, & now missing pens. N.Wroe.

If we get Oaster then N.W. could be rested & or loaned out if considered necessary.

This has been coming for a long time. I have gone on record before about the consequences of lack of support for the Club and unsustainable pricing policies such as last year's season ticket deal. The fact is:

*We are a small club who can't offer transfer fees or big wages

*We therefore have to rely on young, unproven talent or older, experienced players in the autumn of their careers

*Unless we can get more (not less, Brucie!) through the turnstiles there will be no loanees coming in or quality signings in the January window

*Withdrawing our support - and therefore our money - will not improve things

*Continuing our commitment, attending matches (pay attention Brucie!) and encouraging others to attend - perhaps offering lifts and trying to emphasise the positive aspects of supporting a small, friendly and unfashionable club - has more chance of bringing about the outcome we all desire - a winning team!

Money isn't everything - look at Bradford City and the mess they are in with close to 10,000 crowds - and we all need to do a bit more to make a difference and get through this current problem. Walk away from it and TUFC will find itself in the BSP or worse.
Last season Bradfords 10,000 + crowds were nearly all season ticket holders at less than £6.00 per game!

So it's Buckle off to a club with more funds then, you could not blame him, & he will more than likely get a wage rise at the same time
