Next Manager
leetufc wrote: Barring the very recent performance of Hargreaves, I would argue that some of our best seasons over the last two decades have been under the helm of rookie managers - Paul Buckle, Leroy Rosenior and Kevin Hodges.
Yes we have had success under rookie managers, however that came over several seasons. In my opinion, we dont have the time to allow that, and need a "firefighter" that can stabilise us this season.

Not only that but there's the value of the lease to consider as well?Jerry wrote: Who do you think paid for the stands then?
I can assure you it wasn't the council.
The council owns the land the buildings are owned by the football club.

Torquay United v Cheltenham Town
Clearly living up to your username. Cheltenham looked a reasonable side but no more than that. They were well organised and better at holding on to the ball but thats about it. Downsey was probably the man of the match and they look difficult to break down, but brilliant and promotion contenders??madgull wrote:EDIT: AND all of this against a team who, by all accounts, were brilliant and look to be promotion contenders.
You must have been at a different match to me....

Pre-Season Friendly
Hate to say it but that probably sums up his career to date. Just not quite good enough to be a regular player, even at Conference level.SBP wrote:I want Ashley Y to do well, but i really dont know if he has it, Yeovils defence were pretty poor and to be honest he should have done better with several opportunities.
Shame, as he's a nice lad, but it's a hard game.

Looks like he can get 20 a season? I saw nothing to indicate he will get more than mid teens in the league.forevertufc wrote:No place for Bowman, are we joking, Ryan Bowman is the first striker we've had in couple of seasons that actually looks like he can get 20 goals a season, is he going to move on, or being moved on, doubt it very much, last season 17 goals in a poor team, poorly managed, personally thought that was a good return.
His strike rate at Conference level (and career) is around 1 in 3. Slightly less at York, slightly more at Hereford. For us, pretty much the same as Howe before him, and Benyon before Howe.
Rather scarily, thats around the same ratio as Hawley managed last season at Alfreton and they went down so yes, we were distinctly average and rather ineptly managed last season (in my opinion), but so were other teams around (and below) us.

And probably Briscoe being as he doesnt seem to have the legs for out wide any more?TUST_Member_Rob wrote:No place for Yeoman then?
With Bowman, Marsh, Pyrnn and now Fairhurst will be interesting if he gets a deal!

ROADRUNNER wrote:dont see bowman not starting, 17 goals last season in a poor team.
12 from 37 in the league though RR. Around one in three isnt a bad ratio (roughly the same as Hawley in probably a more struggling team) but im not convinced the "new regime" will suit him. Wouldnt be totally suprised if he moves, assuming someone is interested in him? Would ease the budget somewhat.
Added in 2 minutes 31 seconds:
You would like to think that a "pro" should have no problem converting chances given the level of opposition (no offence intended to Galmpton or Dartmouth). I would read more into how he does against teams around our level.Gloomy Gull wrote:Expect Yeoman will be gutted if he is released after scoring 9 in the friendlies so far, and having been touted as the best finisher at the club. Maybe no place for Bowman !!!!!!
5 strikers would seem profligate given our circumstances though?

Strange how attracting players down here was also regularly mentioned by Ling and Bucks as well. Perhaps all 3 of them were waffling?tomogull wrote:I am impressed how Paul Cox is being able to sign players on one year contracts. Do you remember Mr Knill - couldn't persuade players to come to Torquay unless offered lucrative two-year contracts which ultimately contributed to the crippling of the club?
Or perhaps they were trying to go for more established players from clubs around or above us in the pyramid?

I suspect it's all to do with marketing as usual. Got to keep the tills ringing.samuel wrote:Is it compulsory we have a different away kit - something in the league rules?
I agree though, it's pointless to have a change strip unless there's a clash with the home team in my opinion.

Academy yes or no
Hit the nail right on the head there Scott.Scott Brehaut wrote:Do you not think that if, as some have said, the academy paid for itself, that the new consortium would have felt the need to close it down?
If the academy was self funding, it would have remained open. It isnt, therefore it closed.
How the **** people cant grasp a simple fact like that astounds me.
The club has limited resources available and can NOT afford to continue the academy.
The TUST hasnt got sufficient funds to run it for more than a handful of weeks so thats not an option.
The youngsters have my sympathy, but this is the real world. S**t happens.
I was gutted when I realised I wasnt going to be able to do what I had always dreamed of (eyesight not quite good enough).
You adjust your expectations towards something new, and the sooner the better.

Perhaps you should look at the attendance figures before making a sweeping generalisation?notexactlyshakespe wrote:I'm certainly not moaning, Brucie, simply reacting to Dean Edwards' manifesto. I, too, hope that he's not as good as his word because people will not pay good money to watch rubbish as Alan Knill's time in charge proved.
The only time crowds dropped below 2000 were after Knill was sacked. As for last season, under the Hargreaves brand of flowing attractive football, more gates were under 2000 than over it. Feel free to check the attendance figures if you doubt it.
