Torquay United v Chelmsford City Sat 9 Sept KO 3pm

Anyone who has played the game to any level whatsoever will tell you that confidence is the biggest determinant of performance.

I'm sure we can all think of scores of players over the decades who have either looking woeful here and gone on to succeed elsewhere or managed to turn things round at Plainmoor. For the latter, look at Wayne Carlisle, Jamie Reid and now most recently Mark Halstead.

Ultimately players are human beings. It's hard sometimes, but too many fans forget this and choose to pile in and write young lads off when some positive encouragement could help coax out a future club legend.

I'm delighted Mark stuck with it and took a second chance. Hopefully Brett can follow in his path.

Torquay Utd v Worthing 12/8/2023 15:00

Genuine question - how does a team that played so well pre-season (ie showing they have the ability) show so poorkynin the league? Must be due to a perceived drop in opposition standard and so lowering own personal standards and assuming will walk the win?

Pre-Season Friendlies

The neg ferrets on here are so tedious. The player sponsors event today was great, full of positivity and perspective. Really brings it home that the players are just young, ordinary lads trying to do their best. The management team couldn't be more affable either.

I just can't understand why you'd support TUFC / spend your time online if all you have are negative feelings. Each to their own but there are far more important things in life. Just strap in and enjoy the ride!

Fixtures 2023/24

toastkid wrote: 09 Jul 2023, 07:53 That match at Weston didn't cover us in glory. There were some 18,19yr old Torquay "fans" giving the Weston goalie out of order abuse throughout the 2nd half. They should have been kicked out. They were chanting "Gary Johnston's Yellow Army". Yes, they didn't even know the name of their manager. Then the bin. My mate (not a gulls fan) said "You're just a bunch of yobs!" He was of course correct. The actions of the few tarnish the many.
Agreed. There is a fine line. The scenes at Bath City were horrific. I recall issues at Gloucester and others too. Very much hoping these youth don't reappear. We ve always been seen as a passionately supported but friendly club and it's a shame if there's a shift in that.

Based on the numbers that travelled to Weston I think 1500 is achievable. Incredible and surreal atmosphere that night (despite the result). Taunton had best just remove all bins from the terraces.

New Kit New Sponsor !

I'm a fan of having sponsors back, even if they're not the usual commercial ones. Helps give kits an identity / link to an era for me.

I do wonder whether the local focus is part of Clarke's endeavours to win favour with the esteemed local council though as part of the grand development plans.

Players Under Contract

Is your glass ever even a quarter full Brucie?!

Halstead & Lapslie were awesome last season and to have their experience alongside the others already signed on in the NLS is immense.

This is a real statement of intent and notwithstanding all my misgivings of his intentions, fair play to the owner for backing this.

Definitely my POTS. Without him first half of season we'd have been down by February!

Managers press conference today

Seems from twitter Moyse has announced he's departed. Shame that, he looked decent prospect and has never been given a chance.

Really don't understand why we bother with a youth programme as we just farm them out on loan and then release them!

Managers press conference today

The 50/50 poll, whilst clearly unscientific, probably is accurate of fans' thoughts. There are arguments for both camps and I'd just encourage everyone getting angry about him staying to take a moment and really think about whether ranting and raving on here / Twitter is really going to help anyone or anything.

My view is that I'd take our package over the other 3 teams that were relegated. I am all but certain things with our owner will blow up at some point but he's not pulled the plug now and we remain funded and full time.

Yes, the bulk of the season was littered with farce and failure but why not shift mindsets and harness the spirit and passion of the final 8 games and get behind Gary and whatever team he pulls together? Negativity can only be to the detriment of the team and ourselves.

I suspect for most of us things will be far less depressing in a month. We at least have a team to support and after all a new season always brings new hope!

Will we stay up?

What odds us needing old friends Cameron and Nemane to do us a favour on the final day?! Hard to see Notts playing a full strength side if Wrexham have secured the title and arguably would have even less to play for than Wrexham, with the need to avoid injuries ahead of the play offs.

New Signing - Frank Nouble

Time will tell but for me it's the midfield that needs to be boosted and indeed has been the weak link all season. No protection for the defence and no consistent service for the strikers. Unless that changes, Frank could be Harry and it still wouldn't help!

Hopefully I'm wrong though!
