I think this one will end in a 1-1 draw. Oldham may struggle at times adjusting to the league but *shouldn’t* have too many problems motivating themselves against an ex-league club.

Not a fan of Halstead at all. There’s definitely got to be a keeper on the way, or mid-table mediocrity will be the least of our worries. The bloke’s in his 30’s now. He’s never been a regular keeper for any side he’s played for, there is a reason for that.

Squad 22/23
For me, Asa offers so much more than just his ability on the ball. He gives our midfield structure, and has great positional strength. His leadership is impeccable and he weighs in with a good number of both headed goals and penalties. The other thing is how noticeable his absence is when he’s out injured.SBP wrote: 08 Jul 2022, 13:19 If we are talking about an injury free fit Asa Hall then no question he makes a starting 11. However towards the end of the season when he did start or came on he looked a lot slower and leggy. It really did show when the game transitioned, he struggled to keep up or get back.
I m told that he is still not 100%. Maybe he would be better suited to drop back into defence.
IMO unless he's 100% then he doesn't start.
For me, Hall must start whenever possible

I would imagine the lure of actually getting paid his wages would be the reason he’s turned up for training.rivieratouch wrote: 05 Jul 2022, 10:00 I doubt Halstead would return from his home in Wales, without having a sniff of a chance of starting. I reckon he would gave been released and paid up otherwise. GJ will have his priorities to fill elsewhere in my opinion, and another gk to come in, just as an option.
I'm usually wrong, but it's just an opinion hold. I believe he will Give Halstead a chance to shine, before replacing him

Hanson was quality for Dover last year and is a real leader. Their fans are gutted he’s left. McGavin scored a belter against us and did well for KL.
We wonder why Gary doesn’t want to announce them too early, and then people go in on them like this with no need. They may not be CLE or Little or Lewis, but then those three weren’t the players that left when they signed for us either.
Give them a chance

We wouldn’t have to pay wages to any new signings until July 1st, as they’d still be getting paid until the end of their current contract. Armani Little for example is still getting paid by us until next Thursday, and then his FGR contract kicks in and they pay him, so in that respect, that theory as to why we don’t announce signings doesn’t pan out. Goodness knows why we do it, I’m not a fan of the strategy at all, perhaps because 80% of last years signings were useless!culmstockgull wrote: 20 Jun 2022, 20:04 This is obviously Torquays business plan not to pay wages in June hoping against hope their first picks do not get snapped up by other more proactive and serious minded teams. I can imagine that Johnson has a number 2 choice for each position he thinks needs covered working on the principle that he will lose a few by leaving it so late, Judging by other clubs we are only of two clubs in the league that have this dubious strategy , I personally think its a mistake but on the other hand I do not run a football club, we are undoubtedly heading for another mass signing afternoon as if last years was not cringeworthy enough, and those signings didnt exactly fill us with confidence rightly so as it turned out.

Wearne enjoyed his time and was very complimentary about Gary and Aaron.
He would be a very impressive and very attainable target given his loan spell and how the fans took to him. I’d probably be more surprised if he didn’t sign on.

Johnson’s not going to Yeovil, they have more problems than Jay-Z, so it’s just not happening.
The squad players, well they haven’t been good enough to break into a mid-table side, so they’re certainly not going to be good enough to challenge for a place in a side aiming for the play offs(at least).
Can’t see any of this bunch retiring as Hall, Moxey and Wright have once again proven themselves pivotal to our squad. Perhaps Danny Wright may need to be used more sparingly next time round, so the biggest task is finding someone to replace him.
For me, our chances next season rely on how many of Shaun Mac, Lewis, Little and Evans put pen to paper with us.

Taking the knee.
Unbelievable. We won 4-0 and the whole game was ruined by 22 blokes kneeling down for 5 seconds?
