MacDonald to Cheltenham?

Ajala & harrod looked pretty sharp, best we have seen for a long time, looks positive imo. Can see it turning around, its just looking a bit tight for time so can't afford to many more slip ups. As far as I'm concerned McDonald can go, he's not that good, too quiet for a captain,

Hancox moment of glory!

hector wrote:My uncle always relays a tale from Plainmoor in the 50s or 60s, where in the old Cowshed at the Ellacombe (Pre-Mini Stand apparently), a stray shot hit a man in the head and bounced over the stand to the area where the swimming pool is.

When the ball was hit back over from someone outside, it apparently hit the same man on the head again, on the way back in. Sounds a bit urban myth to me but my uncle often repeats this tale and swears it's true.
Incredibly funny wether it's true or not! Can you imagine how embarrassed he was if indeed it was true, definitely worth a chuckle for a few days! Thanks for that one hector, brilliant!

Well done all who went. Overall the crowd was 3,700 (3,300 home) which is cr*p for a Club who are top by a country mile on a bank holiday. If it had been the other way round we would have had well over 4,000.

Tough result - still, even if we lose against FGR it will still be 3 points more than I thought we'd get over the holiday period. Upwards and onwards but big shame about Richards!
Great support as usual 'BUT' it was disappointing to see and hear the action's of a few following the removal of a fan who repeatedly ignored the stewards instructions, also the childish expletive chants using the c word towards the ref, who lets be honest nobody cares to hear.
Other than that it was AMAZING support.

Didn't go to the game as we went to the Emirates, what a game! Anyway, just seen the highlights on Bt sport and thought we had plenty of chances! It looked pretty good, just have to keep believing, we just have to.

Chairman's Statement

madgull wrote:How about this to please all the fickle fans?

'Dear supporters,

We on the board would like to apologise for the performance of an inexperienced, underpaid group of youngsters that we managed to cobble together on the shoestring budget imposed on us due to the ineptitude of our last board. We will be ensuring that Kev fines the culprits responsible for the goals and knocks every last bit of confidence out of them on the training ground on Monday.

We will also be using the not-so-great amount that we currently have in the players fund with immediate effect to sign five new players, each on a princely sum of £80pw. Unfortunately, they have all come from the South Devon Schools League, as we ballsed up and couldn't get Lionel Messi to agree on image rights.

We'd like to offer all supporters free entry to the next five home games in the hope that we don't go bankrupt in the meantime, and we will be installing a £20,000 Opus soundsystem at Plainmoor to pump out some tunes and raise the atmosphere at home games.

To enhance your match day experience further still, we are recruiting cheerleaders from the young mum's association of Torbay, we trust you will enjoy their displays of synchronised smoking and all-action, high-flying heroin injection.

Oh, and having read the 'Dear Kevin Nicholson' thread, we are also delighted to announce that KN has agreed to abandon all ball control, phase of play, passing, shooting, heading, shadow play and every other type of training that isn't dedicated to defending set pieces. We will be introducing a high-tech system of cattle prods to encourage the players to mark better.

Meanwhile, as we want to take our fans' input on board, please email us at [email protected] to suggest to us which of players are not, in fact, professional footballers and merely con artists masquerading as such. Each week, we'll sack the player with the most votes. If you have picked the sacked player, you'll be entered into a prize draw to hand-deliver his P45!!!

COYY!

Lots of love, hugs and kisses,

The Board
Well,at least most of our fans have the best SOH.

Highs and lows, eventually it will click together, have faith, we are being tested at the moment no doubt.

It was a rarity seeing the oppositions players who were being subbed run off the pitch, normally its a gentle carefree stroll in an effort to slow the game down. YEAH.. WELL... watch out cuz WE ARE BACK AND WE ARE COMING FOR YOU.. WE ARE UNITED. ONYA NICHO

Another great interesting, methodical, thoughtful, appointment. One that has not been rushed into, so credit to Nicho. Rome wasn't built in a day. Way to go.
Real down to earth appointments. We no doubt will get behind them and give them time as we always do but this feels different.

Believe me I don't want the team to lose as I say everytime my phone alert goes off you can guarantee the opposition have scored which is really quite depressing.
Its just not worth the time and effort.
Look at the crowd yesterday - nigh on 2000. I know there were a few visiting fans there but that's more than half of what some teams in this league get and we cannot compete with anyone.
I havn't got anything against Nicholson but really his appointment is laughable (or it would be if there was anything to smile about)
Playing himself yesterday was ludicrous - all we have in the dugout is Kenny fecking Veysey who is useless as well. He is supposed to be coaching Speiss (and indeed Rice last season) but they never get any better.
Dave Phillips seems a nice guy - but genuinely I don't think him and Steve Breed could run a piss up in a brewery.
The whole shebang is a three ringed circus if ever there was one.
Some people were saying that Hurst was strolling around yesterday - if that's true what a disgraceful attitude that is.
Can anyone actually see us getting a point from a game let alone three cause I can't.
It is an unmitigated disaster.
To be fair you're quite right. But have to have hope.

nickbrod wrote:Nico might turn out to be a brilliant manager but not with this group of players.
Yes I have to agree. Us fans have been very patient, we have seen it week in week out, yet Nico needs to find out for himself and he will find out what we already know. If that's what its going to take then so be it, as long as we still have a reasonable standard of footy here then that's the best we can expect. Sigh.....

It's only a matter of time before the incredible supporters begin to turn on the players, one of which is now the manager, and the atmosphere will become toxic.

Where on earth is the improvement going to come from? Who's going to inspire and elicit it?

The crowd is trying but it's like a one sided relationship at the moment.
You are quite right, it's exhausting trying to keep positive with this group, sadly nico obviously hasn't seen them as much as we have and is prepared to give them a chance but its fairly obvious his conclusion will be the same as the old faithful who can already see it, he will take up the offers eventually when he has seen what we already know.

tufc si wrote:We all know Brucie is'nt exactly Mr Popular around here and couldnt give two hoots about getting on the wrong side of posters, but I often occasionally do find myself agreeing with some of the drivel he spouts (in my head anyway)!

Anyone can look good in a press conference/meeting, as long as you say the right things and come accross as though you believe in every word you say, but it is ultimately the results and how he acts as a manager that will matter. He needs to deliver what he's said, other wise he's just going to end up like another Hargreaves!! He does look pretty smitten with getting the role though and seems like a thoroughly intelligent and decent bloke.

Totally disregard Brucies crap players comment. We have the foundations of a decent young side, they are just leaderless at present and massively lack confidence. If he can turn that around we'll be fine and dandy I'm sure.

Enjoy your game tomorrow Brucie, I don't think you'll be missed in the yellow stands at all mate.
Yes obviously I agree, it is all about results, and results will determine a managers position. however this applies to anybody who comes in even if it was mourinho, the board had to select someone and Nicho has shone through, I can see why the board went with him.

I can't imagine Nicho walking out on us like cox did with a game the following day, and Nicho doesn't have the arrogance that Hargreaves had, when H took over he accepted that we were going to get relegated to the degree of almost wanting us to, perhaps hoping to be the hero the following year expecting us to bounce straight back up!

On paper they were both better qualified to take the role as our manager. Hargreaves used to lock the young team in the dressing room and give them the hair dryer treatment, that's not great management and didn't work. H was a hero here once but his last visit was not about the team it was about him, I don't see that with Nicho.

reply to brucieTypical post from your good self, glad to see you staying positive. You'll be there, I'm just not sure what you want the outcome to be.mmm the club really needs support like YOURS, It's not exactly constructive, perhaps at the moment we are at opposite ends of the scale but I know where I would rather be. Might be worth getting your blood pressure tested. ;-)enjoy the game, and get behind the team. It's not the premier league, I'm really looking forward to the game, more importantly getting behind the guys on the pitch and hopefully supporting the future of footy at Plainmoor.

Yes, you could say it's a bold statement, all I can say is his statements appear to be genuine and honest, he is showing concern for what happens on the pitch, in the stands and in the community, and wants to encourage the current players by wiping the slate clean, what a mature and responsible attitude, not one you can create if you don't mean it. He is leaving no stone unturned which are qualities of a real perfectionist with drive and desire which in most cases is what it takes which is why I say there are more than one way to skin a cat. Sorry you are missing you're son play tomorrow, lifes full of tough choices. Lets hope it pays for you and all of us.

This is the start of a great comeback, KN is showing the signs of great things to come and we should all get behind him, great enthusiasm, definite leadership qualities and fresh ideas and a real belief in himself which radiates, None of which his predecessors have displayed.
There's no BS,No cocky arrogance, there is however plenty of the likeability factor which will get all concerned pulling in the same direction, he's a guy who is genuinely happy to be where he is and do what he can for the love of the club, and the community, he's a FAN with vision and desire, so what if he doesn't have the experience that other managers have who are currently unemployed, there is more than one way to skin a cat! Let him cut his teeth here, he deserves it. Well done to the board.
