Potential Signings

Kit_robin wrote:Wouldn't mind Richards signing, but I would still hold out hope for a more experienced CB to play with the other three who are all quite young.

Indeed someone like a Guy Branston, oh how we could do with him now.

The Yellow Army flag fund

Plainmoor has never been a fortress despite it's long distance from most other grounds. That's one of the problems with the club.

Masters Dissertation Questionnaire

Completed. You should consider asking the TUST to include a link in their monthly newsletter, they'd probably be happy to do so and it'll bump up your Torquay submissions by quite a bit. Would be interested in reading the final version of the dissertation as well. I think the form could have done with a open question where responders could have put in their reason for their team being un successful because I think it'd be hard to judge that Torquay struggles due to being a retirement area full of transplants without a long standing civic pride solely through the questions asked.

Yellowfest Tickets Offer

happytorq wrote: tickets were what, £35? so that's £28,000 in ticket sales.

Squeeze and 10cc wouldn't have come cheap. No idea if local bands would have been paid, but most likely yes. Set up of stage and security probably not cheap either.

Honestly, if they broke even on it, that would have been made it a huge success - and something to build on for the next time - but I very much doubt there was a profit.
Herald says there were 1,000 there. So £35k - whatever % of the tickets were sold on discount on Groupon - bands fees - admin costs. Local bands wouldn't have got much, few hundred quid if what Occombe pays them is anything to go by. Even if you're only left with a few grand profit, it'll pay some of the squad players wages for a couple weeks.

Truro gave him the taste for a football club and he sees Torquay as the better long term prospect? Does seem a bit suspect though, given he saved Truro from oblivion and is local to the region. There's no obvious benefit to owning Torquay to him, unlike say a EPL owner using the club as a feeder club. More likely is some kind of financial motive, most likely land.

Anyone got any idea of his net worth? Come across some articles on the net listing him as a 'nightclub owner', doesn't strike me as somehow who'd have the money to run the club in any way other than a Bateson way?

Takeover 50/50 ?

gullintwoplaces wrote:The Herald seems to be one step behind at the moment. No mention of the Board meeting today,
It's not really surprising, ever since it was sold a few years back the paper has slowly been turning into a rag. They post cookie cutter articles, use national news on their website, have about 10 different types of intrusive ads on their website, have gone to weekly and the quality of their journalism is nose diving as cuts are made and the new owners try to squeeze their local titles for as much profit as can be made. It's barely worth reading these days aside from the odd Dave Thomas article when he's not sucking up to the club.
