Oh and a brief comment on the officials, particularly the ref - I thought they were all excellent

Torquay United v East Thurrock United 11/08/18

Very pleased with the win today. We played some good football at times but we were very poor in the final 3rd. I lost count of the number of times we had 3 v 3 or a man spare and we either over hit the final pass or fanny'd around too long on the ball. Still, im not worried as it's early days and I'm sure when we gel a bit more as a team , those opportunities will be better utilised. We're certainly getting in good positions which is encouraging.

Defensively we look really solid and I think all 3 centre backs are decent. Bit lucky to keep a clean sheet today as East Thurrock had their moments, but Sokolik and Cameron seem comfortable on the ball and are happy to look up and play a forward pass. Hope Sokolik isn't injured and it's just a short term knock.

All in all, the ingredients are there for a decent campaign. Fair play to Owers for putting a potentially good side together.

MOTM - East Thurrock

It's funny how we all see the game so differently!

Cameron - didn't lose a header all game and happy to take responsibility and look forward for a pass.

Dickson - pretty poor first half with some awful passing but showed how good he can be with his 2nd half display. Will be a key player this season.

Keating - didn't do much really but we won the game because of him. Very happy for the lad.

Macdonald - 2nd half distribution was great and that point blank save just before we got our second goal looked incredible from where I was stood.

Asa Hall - won some key headers and like Dickson, was much better 2nd half.

Wrexham v Torquay 6/1/18

The most worrying thing for me is that our management duo seem to have no idea how to influence the players or what happens on the pitch. If you keep conceding goals from corners, surely you spend time in training working on defending them? If you can’t score at the other end, shouldn’t they be working on set plays, tactics, some sort of plan for the players to implement when they get in the final third?

We actually started brightly yesterday and were knocking it around to feet. But they just had no idea what to do when they got near Wrexham’s goal. First time Wrexham get the ball down our end, they score and its game over. That was the pattern for most of the game really.

I lost count of the number of times that Dowling or Young or Davis had time and space with the ball and were looking for an option ahead of them. All they had were blokes in yellow standing still. No movement whatsoever. The result was either a hopeful / hopeless lump in to the air or a pass square or backwards. It was so frustrating to watch.

Dowling. He’s the only one that looked a professional footballer.

We may as well have just cobbled together 11 random fellas from the crowd, put them in yellow and out on the pitch. It’s a complete joke and I’m embarrassed to call myself a TUFC supporter.

Well, I woke up feeling positive this morning and decided to come to the game. Now I’m here all the positivity seems to have left me! Here’s hoping we can pull something out the bag and get a result!

Management options

Southampton Gull wrote: 07 Sep 2017, 11:03 Yet if you listen to Mark "I run my own conglomerate so know more about business than anyone" Horler and Will "big mouth, no balls" Taylor the man has already been given the job and they are both happy about it and see nothing but good things for us..........................
When pushed, one of them said that they knew who the position had been offered to. No mention of whether that person had accepted.

Management options

I cant remember who said it a day or two back but I too think we now find ourselves in a position where all of the "proper" managers (Cox, Money, Moore etc) have been "interviewed" and have said no for whatever reason, be it financial or existing TUFC personnel or situation. Cox has already gone somewhere else and the others would rather bide their time for a better management opportunity.

That leaves us with the option of ex players (Todd, Tully etc) or unknown entities such as Kevin Davies and Sol Campbell, none of which will be the answer in my view and may not even be interested.

Or of course they dont appoint anyone and its a Robbie & Harrop dream team. :'( No thanks.

Nicholson sacked 17/08

I'm surprised at the quickness of the departure as I thought GI would wait another couple of games.

Like many, I have the utmost respect for Kev given that he kept doing his job (and lots of stuff that wasn't his job) to the best of his ability in such trying circumstances. You have to commend the man on that front.

What you cant commend him for is the complete tactical naivety that we've had to endure for the last 2 seasons. Being out thought by (supposedly) lesser teams on a regular basis is what I have come to expect. Odd substitutions, strange formations and players being played out of position had become the norm. Its the right decision for me.

I've not lost sight of the bigger picture with the potential threat of GI & Plainmoor, but in my mind GI acting now to remove Kev (assuming he's not walked) is a positive step. You can argue that they are now running the club like a business, and 1200 odd fewer attending Tuesdays game than the first home game against Tranmere will have been a rude awakening for them - we play shite = significant drop in income. Getting rid of the cause of that loss of income is a sensible move from a business perspective. No emotion clouded their judgement in parting ways with an excellent former player and fantastic chap.

What will decide things for me as to GI's intentions, is who we now appoint. If its Harrop or Tully or Todd or some other inexperienced former player, that will sound massive alarm bells for the future of Plainmoor. If its someone thats going to cost a few quid, with experience and the know how of turning what is a pretty reasonable squad (admittedly with 3 or 4 duffers that shouldn't be here) at this level in to a winning team, then that will tell its own tale and i'll continue to remain cautiously optimistic.

Good signing. He was the best player on the pitch when we played at Chester season before last.

TUFC Consultation Survey 2017

gullpower wrote: 03 May 2017, 06:49 The survey is an opportunity to get a message across to GI. Two of my comments began "TUFC does not need a new stadium..."
Completely agree with this. We're being given an opportunity to feed back our opinions directly to GI and as many of us as possible should do that.

You dont have to over analyse the leading questions - just fill the comments boxes up with facts about GI's previous record and how that should not be allowed to happen again etc etc. There doesn't appear to be any restriction on how much you can write (I wrote loads).
