Takeover of the club at an advanced stage

RussianGull wrote:Is anyone else getting annoyed with TUST? I see they've sent another open letter to Dave Phillips. TUST feels like one man with an agenda rather than listening to peoples opinions on the direction of the club. Celebrate staying up, trust in Breedy and co - they've steered us this far.
Hi RussianGull

Sorry you feel that way. I guess it's all down to interpretation as I viewed the e-mail more positively than that and am encouraged that TUST are trying to keep on top of things.

I suppose the issue is that we are all rightfully rejoicing in "being safe", but is it not more important to look further ahead and make sure the club is moving in the right direction. The word "clarity" comes to mind and I see TUST as trying to generate this. After all, we don't want to be in the same position as we were last year and risk putting all of KN and the team's hard work to waste? I like you trust in Dave Phillips and Steve Breed as they are TUFC supporters to the core and will only want what is best for the club, but can we honestly say that at this stage about our pending new owners? That may be doing them a big injustice and hence the need for clarity to stop rumours and unhelpful gossip. Sometimes its' just about asking those extra questions that even the current board may not have considered perhaps. Maybe seeing the whites of the eyes, establishing there is a human being behind all of this..

Anyway, its' all down to opinions I suppose and who is to say my opinion is more right than yours..

Player of the Season Vote & Putting the Roof on Collection

Folks

A short thread to remind you the Player of the Year votes will be taking place at this Saturday's game v Tranmere. Please see the link on the main .com website below:

http://www.torquayunited.com/news/artic ... 46729.aspx

You can also cast your vote online using the TUST e-mail address of [email protected]

At the same time, TUST members and volunteers will be holding a bucket collection to raise funds for the "Putting the Roof on" project under Bristow's Bench. While relocating the club continues to be a potential opportunity, in the foreseeable future the club will continue to play at Plainmoor and all our fans deserve to watch a game in comfort. Hopefully you will have seen details of this very worthwhile cause before, but if not please follow the link on the main .com website below:

Please give generously where you can!

Disabled facilities

ferrarilover wrote:Ten grand at cost price? My heated, humidity controlled double garage didn't cost that retail. Next time I'm down I'll knock something up for £500. The rest of the cash can go the Players Fund.

Anyway, you say they're not getting a fair deal, I'd say they're getting the traditional Accrington Stanley away experience.

Matt.

You really are a vile human being. You have made my blood boil with your latest torrent of abuse. Michael Goulbourne gives up a huge amount of his time to run the trust (along with others). It is not for me to lay out specifics in a forum environment, but you would not believe the amount of personal issues he is having to go through at present and to read a comment like that is just disgusting. As and when / if the Supporters Trust are called on in some shape or form in the future I am guessing you will be happy to accept the benefits of Michael's hard work then. Maybe you should engage brain for once before such an outburst. We live in a democratic society so we all have differing views, but quite honestly you take the biscuit.

TUST Recruitment Drive

Well done Jon for posting the link to join TUST.

It is great that we have managed 3 wins on the bounce and all of a sudden there is some optimism on the pitch which at the end of the day is the only thing we really care about. However, we should not forget matters "off the pitch" which ultimately will define the destiny of our beloved club. A strong Supporters Trust representation is hugely important and I would encourage everyone to join if they haven't already.

TUST Recruitment Drive

The Supporters Trust are "upping the ante" in order to raise their profile and membership.

Time to get involved if you are not already.....

http://www.torquayheraldexpress.co.uk/T ... story.html

Membership Recruitment Strategy

Following on from the inexcusable decision by the Club Board to cancel the project to explore the viability of community ownership, stating our lack of members (425) as one of their reasons, your Trust Board have made the decision to focus our efforts over the next 8 weeks to recruiting new members.

Please note the Club Board also used our lack of funds as an additional excuse. However, in light of the Clubs much talked about precarious financial situation, we have decided that it would not be appropriate at this stage to launch a major fund raising campaign that would potentially undermine the Clubs fund raising efforts and so have taken the decision to continue not to fund raise for the time being.

On Saturday 27th February a 3 hour meeting was held to discuss and agree a membership recruitment strategy. Below is a short summary.

Strategy

Target - Focus will be Member Recruitment with the aim to at least double the current membership from 425 to enhance TUST’s reputation/credibility with both the current TUFC Board and potential future bidders.

Why - TUST believes that the character of the club ideally fits the trust model as a long term solution.

Despite the best efforts of recent TUFC boards, the club’s long term sustainability will inevitably require community ownership at some point in the future.

In the meantime supporters need a voice with the current TUFC Board, as well as any potential future bidders for the club.

Based on the club’s response about the current levels of TUST membership inhibiting their involvement in a joint exploration of community ownership, TUST will now focus on increasing membership numbers to improve our influence.

In terms of potential TUST projects, while the new stadium is an interesting idea it is unlikely to be implemented for a long time and therefore our focus for any actions will continue to be at Plainmoor.

In the interim private investment will be supported by TUST if it is based on the best long term interests of the club.

TUST’s immediate priority is to begin a marketing/communication strategy to recruit more members in response to the club’s challenge to the TUST Board.

What we will do

A number of actions have been identified and agreed, including the decison that the recruitment campaign will be expanded to include a weekly quarter page 'advertorial' in the Herald Express which will be sponsored by local businesses.

Further to Saturdays meeting a meeting was held on Monday morning with the Herald Express and the objectives and execution of our campaign were agreed.

The Trust Board will hold a review meeting in 6 weeks time to assess the effectiveness of this campaign.

Sponsorship has already been secured for the first three editions... If you or anyone you know would like to sponsor the remaining editions please send me an email - [email protected]

Tuesday Night Football

Is it just me or do others think that our fixture backlog may actually help us with our plight? Despite the potentially smaller attendances you have to say the atmosphere is far better at an evening game than on a Saturday. There seems to be more of a feeling of "Fortress Plainmoor" and everyone pulling together on a Tuesday night.

Massive credit to the singing and drum brigade tonight on the popside. I am sure they made a big difference this evening and have a big part to play for the rest of the season.

Let's just keep the run going.

Blissett Signs

Another good signing to add to the squad. Would have liked to see a midfield man though. Perhaps there are more in the pipeline?

Either that or perhaps we are changing tactics from playing 7/8 defenders to 7/8 attackers :goal: :goal:

Look out for the long ball tactics... :scarf: :scarf:

Torquay United v Wrexham (note Sat 7th Nov)

Well, yet again this is really poor. I feel for those travelling down plus all the Wrexham supporters. How much is this going to cost the club? We can't control the weather, but surely a little foresight would have been useful in planning? The weather has pretty much done as it said it would so I fail to understand how we manage to leave such a decision so late. As others have said, no updates throughout the morning on the official website and information over the telephone which is plainly incorrect.

We never learn......

I have to agree. It must be a nightmare for those fans out of the area. When I rang the club earlier they were clear that no inspection was planned, hence the posting. Admittedly it did carry on raining a little, but nothing significant enough to warrant a change in the pitch conditions. Sorry to say, but we don't seem to learn from previous problems like this. Let's just hope the game is on - that way all we be well again :)

Torquay United v Wrexham (note Sat 7th Nov)

Have just rang the club who have said the game is "ON". No pitch inspection is planned as they anticipate the rain will stop by 11.00.

Hope that helps!
