He has .... but the suggestion is that we might get him in on a season long loan?

Cheltenham announce retained list

nickbrod wrote: 16 May 2019, 20:22 But, if correct, are any of these the "marquee" signings?
I wonder whether GJ might Iive to regret that remark! Personally, I don’t think we should set our expectations too high this summer Nick. The names I suggested (Duku apart) were regulars in a mid table League Two side last season and as such are probably a “cut above” the National League, but they are the sort of players at what is after all a higher level than we are at, that I would imagine GJ is looking to recruit from.

I think Duku is a realistic target but wouldn’t be surprised if Mullins (centre half) and Dawson (attacking centre mid) are also on GJs radar. Both are out of contract and available on a free transfer - seemingly Dawson has been offered a new deal but may only be a short term (1 year) one - both players signed for CTFC by GJ - and Dawson also followed him there from Yeovil.

Congratulations Jamie Reid

Haven’t seen it published anywhere yet ... but we were also informed last night at the “Champions” evening by Gary Johnson that Jamie Reid, Asa Hall and Kyle Cameron have all made it into the National League South Team of the Season.

A surreal moment came before the kick off as I had to turn Henning Wehn away!
.....He's appeared at the Babbacombe Theatre previously (my wife and I went to one performance) but he's not got a show today so he must be a new fan!
You’re wrong there Andy! I’m sat watching him now at the Babbacombe Theatre! Very funny he is too !😀👍

Torquay United v Chelmsford City - PP 2/4/19

As someone who was sat right behind the goal .... I can confirm that the keeper got a left hand to the ball and pushed it onto the post. It was a very good save, to be fair.

East Thurrock v Torquay United PP to 26.2.19

That has been the most painful listen to a TUFC commentary I can remember in a long time! Thank goodness we ground out the win as with Truro winning that would have been quite a setback to our title chances, and who knows how important that late winner from Keating might prove to be at the end of the season! To be fair, there was always going to be a fair bit of injury time as there were two quite long delays for treatment to their players and what with the substitutions and goals etc I would have been angry (at 1-1 of course!) if he hadn’t have played 5 or 6 minutes!

To be fair, I think some allowance must be made for the state of their pitch which even their own Manager described as rock hard, difficult to play any kind of football on and he hoped would prove to be a bit of a leveller against our passing side, in an interview he gave to their local press before the game. That, combined with their “ariel approach” clearly affected us and it didn’t sound like we coped at all well for most of the night to be honest but certainly throughout the first half. It sounded like we improved considerably when Hall went into defence, but I wasn’t there so can only base on what i heard.

Slightly worrying that Sendles-White doesnt seem to cope too well with the “muscular” approach and it appears that, not for the first time in recent weeks, he has been bullied a bit by his opponent. I think he has had a pretty poor run of form of late, In particular in games against Bath, Welling, tonight and even on Saturday I thought he should have done better with DHs second goal. I think he will, as others have suggested, now find himself on the bench on Saturday as Kyle Cameron returns, and so its now down to Jean-Yves to re-establish himself in the starting XI.

Think that first half really highlights the lack of strength in depth we have got. Clearly JSW was having a nightmare at centre half and was rightly hauled off but having to switch Asa Hall back there means we have now lost our most combative midfielder and when you look at the “options” on the bench - there really isn’t much physicality is there?

I can understand what GJ is trying to do - keeping a tight knit squad - but when you look at Woking’s approach, they are quite literally pulling in players from all over the place (another one signed today!) - time will tell as to who has got the right approach, but on nights like this I do wish we had some better options to call on from the bench - don’t think ours is strong (in EVERY sense of the word!) enough tonight. Which means we have no real option to be able to change things or match them up with their physical approach on what is clearly a pretty lousy surface. Perhaps it is time to look to bring one or two in?

woking

Have to say full credit to Dowson and Woking, they have made excellent use of the loan system and in Tarpey and Allassani they have made two excellent signings who are not only proven at this level but are also proven goal scorers ~ and a cut above this level for sure.

Welling Utd v TUFC 16th February 2019

SBP wrote: 16 Feb 2019, 18:27 Ben Gerring spreading his love for TUFC at the Woking game today. Why does he do that??
Really poor from Gerring ... and to think it was us that gave him his chance at National League level!

Fair enough, he’s clearly “made his bed and can now lie in it” as the saying goes .... his actions will certainly mean that he will never receive a good reception at Plainmoor again (no doubt he will still “winge” on twitter when he does though!) ... and am surprised at his actions given that (as far as I am aware) he still lives locally.

Brazilian winger trials for Torquay

MellowYellow wrote: 28 Jan 2019, 10:41 If you are given a trial by Johnson it normally means you have got some potential. No doubt it was our Head of Recruitment, Gary's brother Peter who pointed him in this direction. UKFT are the same outfit where Peter found Kalvin Lumbombo-Kalala. Whether during the trial with us, he came up to our new exacting standards is another question to which I or you appear not to know.
Well we do now, and he didn’t!

He must have been one of the trialists that Dave Thomas mentioned (in the outside broadcast podcast at S.Devon College a couple of weeks back) that were at the club and took part in the behind closed doors friendly that we played against a S.Devon College XI (that included Chris Todd).

Unfortunately, it appears that although he did ok, it turns out we were “in need of a different type of player” and he is now heading off to Brechin City to try his luck with them on another trial. Interesting to hear that we are looking at players though and I love the “randomness” of the players that Peter Johnson comes up with ....

A bit more info on here on how it went ....
