Full time V Part Time
I have no idea how much they cost, desperado. I was just going on a figure that was doing the rounds when Tonbridge had theirs installed.
Unfortunately, it seems that more and more grassroots football is being played on plastic. It certainly helps with fixtures not being postponed - especially at short notice. But it can also be a useful revenue stream that the club could look into.
But, at the end of the day, this will all come down to what the new prospective owners feel is best for the club.

Full time V Part Time
As it seems that we're more than likely to be stuck in the nether regions of non-league football for a while and possibly going part-time, and I cannot believe I'm actually typing this, but would it not be worth looking down the 3g/4g/artificial route? It's an expensive outlay at first (half a million possibly) but there are grants available and many clubs at our level and much further down the pyramid have the dreaded plastic. Once installed it could be a huge(ish) revenue stream for the club.
Just throwing it into the mix. And, before anyone asks, yes, I'd rather still play on grass and, yes, I know that half a million is a big outlay, and, yes, I'd rather stay full-time. But these are unsure times for our beloved club and to make the future sustainable, whoever takes over will need to look at all revenue stream options available.

Yeovil Town v Torquay Utd Friday 29th 3pm
Can we?.... Will we?
Nah. Unfortunately.
The form guide for both United and Yeovil (W2 D2 L2) says this should be a draw but unless we find our shooting boots, I cannot see anything other than a home win. As much as we'd all love to go to Yeovil and come away with a point (at least), it's just not going to happen.
Glovers 5 Gulls 0
NLS record attendance incoming.

Potential Buyers
We know we've been warned about Smurthwaite and his antics, Nodge... but we're stuck between a rock and hard place right now.
Let's face it, whoever buys into the club has got a massive job to do to restore faith in the fanbase.
But as I said before, everything is just guesswork right now until we hear anything official from the club.
If, and I hope this is a big if, we fail to find a buyer and it all goes tits up, I'd support a phoenix club 100%

Potential Buyers
...but if all the shelves were empty apart from one tin of Smurthwaite Beans, I'd buy them rather than go hungry. The Great Muta! wrote: ↑22 Mar 2024, 08:14 The thing is here is this, people are saying they are willing to give Smurthwaite a chance, like you're at the supermarket and you decide to give Morrison's beans a chance over Branstons, or Daz over Ariel..... Smurthwaite is not the answer, we'd be knackered in no time at all, like I say, he's Clarke Osborne in disguise.
As it stands, none of us (or at least the majority of us) do not know what is going on behind the scenes. Until an official buyer is announced everything is just guesswork and if it is Smurthwaite we'll just have to accept it and hope he doesn't repeat his time at PV.

Tonbridge Angels v Torquay United, March 16 3pm
The crowd that day was just a tad over 700 and if I recall not that many made the trip up from the 'Bay... c.70-100?standupsitdown wrote: ↑14 Mar 2024, 14:19 We didn't move at half time last time. The locals moaned a bit.
The Angels' attendances this season have been around the 1,100 mark on average and, at a guess, Saturday's attendance will top that. Also, for some reason this season, there seems to a small element who seem intent on causing trouble at Longmead and there were a few unwanted scenes behind one of the goals when Dover fans decided they'd stay in the 'home' end...and the same thing happened when Torquay visited Crabble earlier this season.
And I do not understand why anyone would want to stand behind their own goalkeeper for 90 mins when most grounds at this level allow you the freedom to swap at half time.

Tonbridge Angels v Torquay United, March 16 3pm
For those of you travelling up to Tonbridge and haven’t been to the ground before:
Parking: Large free car park right outside the ground but fills up pretty quick on match days this season due to the increase in attendances at Longmead. If the car park is full, there is plenty of street parking in the local area.
Train: If you’re travelling by train, the ground is about a 20-30 minute walk up through the main high street (as you turn left out of the station) and up Shipbourne Road. You’ll walk over one roundabout and then have a Shell petrol station on your left and The Royal Oak pub next door. At the next roundabout, turn left down Darenth Avenue and the ground is at the bottom of the road through the opened car park barrier.
Pubs: As mentioned above, the Royal Oak is possibly the nearest watering hole (I don't normally drink in Tonbridge so there might be somewhere closer). The club itself does have a clubhouse and a marquee selling alcohol which normally welcomes away fans – but after the Angels’ visit to Plainmoor where the majority were barred from entry to Boots and Laces, the locals might not be too happy about you being in there. If you fancy a coffee before the game Upz and Downz Coffee Shop is located outside the ground right next to the main turnstiles.
The pitch: plastic
Facilities: ‘Fries Like An Angel’ and 2-3 snack/drink bars situated around the ground.
And a word of caution: Angels' fans do like to do the traditional non-league thing and swap ends at half time (which I 100% agree with) so don't be surprised if the stewards/security ask you to move at half-time.

Good luck with that!

Torquay United v Taunton Town TUE 12th.
Well, that was embarrassing to say the least.
I was going to go into a long rant about how useless we were for the whole 90 mins, but everyone's beaten me to it.
That 10pt deduction that is looming could cost us especially if that's the kind of performance we can expect until the end of the season. I bloody hope not... starting with a win on Saturday at Longmead.
