Farnborough v Torquay United Tue 20TH

Sorry, Skillsy, I cannot agree with you about Johnson being here next season IF (and that's a very big IF) we scrape into the play-offs and by some miracle win them.

You say it's 'strange' to sack a man who has done what was intended... well, this is the same man who has alienated a large proportion of the Plainmoor faithful by labelling them 'the wrong kind of fans'... what sort of fans does he want? those who show up and just accept (every week) that we were outplayed (again), that we had lots of possession but still lost (again), those who just shell out their hard-earned cash to travel to the likes of Braintree et al to be served up more dross against 10-men and just accept it because losing is part of football?

Yep, a few losses along the way throughout the season is acceptable... losing 5 on the trot, conceding 16 in the process, and being at our lowest position in our history is not. So, for me, Johnson is not the man to take Torquay United forward. I just wish I had the answers as to who is!

Owlgull wrote: 19 Feb 2024, 07:47 Skillsy - Yes, Gary Johnson should definitely still go irrespective of a miracle happening and us being promoted. I have never been part of the Gary out brigade, but as each week has passed my faith and hope have been steadily eroded, to the extent that I feel really depressed watching my beloved team play so poorly - and consistently lose.
For me, I just can’t forgive GJ’s total lack of respect or understanding of the loyal fans who pay his, and the teams wages. His comments about “the wrong sort of fans” demonstrates his breathtaking arrogance and reinforces how totally out of touch he is with us. I don’t think I will EVER be able to forgive that comment.
The fact that he NEVER acknowledges the fans close up, leaving Aaron Downes to do it, is nothing short of cowardly and despicable. I hate watching GJ post match interviews because I can’t bear to see how broken he has become.
Having said all that I will still be going to the matches and praying for a miracle. I won’t shout abuse, that’s not my way, but inside I die a little more when the final whistle blows.
Maybe Tim Sills would be interested in taking over……..

Torquay Til I Die!!
This.

Having been a lifelong supporter, travelling the width and breadth of the country to support our once proud club, it really is becoming depressing beyond words. Our club is rotten to the core.

I had a choice on Saturday whether to go to watch Torquay lose again or make the shorter trip to Welling to watch Tonbridge. My head said 'go to Park View Road, you'll enjoy it more'... but, as with everything Torquay United related, my heart won over and we set off for Braintree.

No need to go into a rant about the game. It's what we've all come to expect. A toothless showing (again), defeat against another part-time club (again), a miserable trip home (again).

And, yes, I'll be there on Tuesday because after all said and done, this isn't Osborne's club, this isn't Johnson's club. It's ours.

TommyGunn wrote: 15 Feb 2024, 16:46 Found a pic of kids in the mini stand here. Are you there?

My username might give you the answer to that one.

Being 1983, I'd more than likely have been stumbling out of The Little House with all the other Watcombeites en route to Plainmoor.

Truro Away - Now at Taunton - ? Date

Maybe I should have copied and pasted the whole thread from twitter.

If you've paid for a ticket, you'll have the money refunded within 10 working days.... and then you'll have to purchase a new ticket for the re-arranged game at Taunton (or possibly Blyth Spartans, Berwick Rangers)...

Plymouth Parkway have confirmed that anyone who purchased tickets for the original fixture will automatically be refunded within the next ten working days.

Full ticketing information & pricing for the rearranged match in Taunton in April will be announced in due course.

...and for those of you have already bought tickets for the game in Plymouth, those tickets will not be valid for the re-arranged fixture (now at rain-sodden Taunton).

Maidstone v Torquay United TUE 6th Feb

Colorado wrote: 06 Feb 2024, 12:38 My friend United 62

It sounds like you are pretty angry and poised to “get” into it with the Maidstone fans. I seriously doubt that the majority of Maidstone faithful would think this tragedy is funny.

Our team is terrible, the management and leadership worse.
Maidstone are doing well and we are jealous of their success….Pretty much the only bright thing in this season has been the continued support of guys like you who show up. please dont allow your emotions get the better of you while you’re up there. It will hurt you, it will hurt the reputation of the club, and will be milked, for all is worth by the ownership to show how it’s impossible to deal with Torquay fans. Please don’t give them that option
Colorado... you could not be further off the mark. I have no intention now, or ever, to 'get into it' with the Maidstone fans and my emotions will purely be directed at supporting my team. Violence at football matches is for the brain-dead which, I can assure you, I am not.

I'll be at Legoland tonight to support Torquay United. I'll park up, walk to the ground, watch us get beat heavily, sigh loudly at 80 mins when we're 6-0 down and then trudge off back to my car with a face like a smacked-arse. Drive home. Have a beer. Scan the forums to read how sh!te we were. Have some horlicks and then head off to bed (and hopefully, the Ayatollah will have put the electric blanket on).

The reason for my distain of the majority of Maidstone fans?.... If you look at my 'location' under my username, you'll see that I reside in 'The Garden of England'... if you're not sure where that is, it's the county of Kent.... and yes, Maidstone is in Kent, as is my 'second' adopted team Tonbridge Angels (situated roughly 18 or so miles from each other). Both fanbases dislike each other immensely hence the reason both derby games this season have been segregated (Tonbridge aren't even doing that for the visit of Yeovil Town this Saturday).

So, rest assured, I will not be bringing the name of Torquay United into disrepute tonight...I'll leave that up to the manager and his cohorts.

Footnote: In the thread on the Maidstone forum that mentions the above, a certain 'Bernie' is saying that it was 'obviously aimed at their own idiots' or something along those lines. Unfortunately, that's not the way I read it in the first instance.

It's been said many many times before on this forum, but in another industry, anywhere in the word, if you had under-performed as much as Johnson has, you'd have been given your P45 months (if not years) ago.

Personally, I cannot wait for this season to be over (we're not getting anywhere near a play-off spot with this lot). It's all so depressing to watch, to read about, to think about.
