Barrow V Torquay United

He had potential.... but also had carthorse potential, seems like he chose the latter as his career has never taken off
Played well at Swindon in a League Cup tie but that was about it, mind you playing up front in a struggling side with the
holidaying Karl Hawley didn't help

National League table after tonight's games

Firstly, no need to bring Nicholsons family into it
Second, if that is true regarding no win bonus it would explain some of the performances . With 20 or so minutes to go
when we are losing or drawing at home and it's kitchen sink time, nothing happens !
My cousin played for the reserves in the late seventies and even they got a win bonus !

Unlikely I guess that the current bottom 4 will all go down but think they are our best bet, think Woking will survive and Guisley are flying, hopefully North Ferriby will go and we have a 7 point cushion over York, the game at Southport will be crucial, and I heard Maidstone need ground improvements they cannot afford or could be relegated anyway, maybe Merse can confirm or deny this ? They have a very tough last 13 games anyway, 8 against the top ten, including the top 4, but ultimately its the points we accumulate that will keep us up, dont think we have the firepower at the moment to do it, 13 goalless draws will not keep us up

Yes it was but overall not looking so good, we really have to take some points from the next 4 games against teams just above and below us, 6 points hopefully.

Nathan Blissett MOM today.. Gone tomorrow?

It looks like he was a 6 week bench filler until Jimmy Spencer got fit again, thats who replaced him on Saturday
I always felt Nathan had a lot more to give, the only time I really saw him pull his finger out was when he lost his place to Moore and came on for two 20 minute spells when he played out of his skin
How the other half live, 15 rising to 30k was it? for a player who is not sure of making the bench !

No Wivel
Barrow 0 Torquay 4 oh sorry I was dreaming of 1969, Fred Binney scored , he was never that great for us was he, until
he went to Exeter ! God even Bob Glozier scored that day, a goal from him about as rare as one from Damon Lathrope

Seriously, Barrow 1 Torquay 2 (Lathrope 2)

New Players/Loan

Assume that player was Damon Lathrope who was offered a substantially reduced deal by Aldershot because he was not fit and needed to prove his fitness ? ! Which is what we should have done !!

Torquay v Macclesfield, National League, Sat. 11 Feb. 2017, 3:00 pm

Usually agree with Tomogulls posts and yes thought Verma had been playing reasonably well of late, Nicho said Lathrope had been fantastic in training all week, well he is not up against National League players in training only ours ,
so he would. We have many problem areas in the team but the lack of goals from midfield is a major one, Luke has not recaptured his goalscoring form of his early days, Richards has not scored this season and accepting Lathrope is not an attacking midfielder, he hasnt managed a goal in 120 appearances for us ! and he does have a reasonable shot on him .Even the centre backs GG, G and McG have 8 between them, I think we have 3 from midfield but if they dont get up in support they are not going to score
I do remember Tomogulls favourite player, Colin Bettany, just, played with his sleeves rolled up, have we had a harder dare I say 'dirtier' player play for us? Sadly he wouldnt last 5 minutes in todays game but then neither would David Stocks, John Impey, Jim McNichol etc.......

Torquay v Macclesfield, National League, Sat. 11 Feb. 2017, 3:00 pm

Happy with a point towards our 50 target, but need to be better up front to stay up. I would play Williams but he is not the player to be own his own up front, shame Keating didnt get longer as he looked as if he had something about him
Anderson did ok for his first game, and think I would agree with McGinty being MOM, I think donkey as someone called him is a little unfair, his first priority is to defend and get the ball away from the danger areas with his head or feet which he does, dont think are are many ball playing centre backs in the National League. Hodgkiss and Richards battled well.Dont know why we water the pitch, it suits the opposition more than us as they are the ones that pass and move it on the grass. Macc did this better than us though they didnt get through too many times
Considering the cold weather, rugby on tv and our poor form didnt think 1400 was too bad a crowd

The sort of leadership he has been after and he knows the National League says Nicho, from the bench maybe but he has not played a game at our level for 4 years and then only 5 in his whole career for Aldershot, hardly a replacement for Raccine . Hope to be proved wrong but at this stage hope GG holds his place and he isnt the answer either in our perilous position

Dont want to re-open the Hargreaves debate but did we really do so badly in his one and only full season in charge ?
Most fans would bite your hand off for a mid table 13th finish with 61 points now. It was the mid season slump after an exceptional start that did for him and the lack of a proper goalkeeper which cost us enough points to have had us in the play offs
Nice to hear we were actually all over a team in the second half yesterday, but worrying that we still lost
Unless we get a physical presence up front we will be relegated

Torquay v Gateshead 28/01/17

Battled well today, think we rode our luck at times and not sure I agree we were the better team for most of the match
Great run and finish from Fitz and Williams who has to stay in the team now as all that matters now is goals and points
and as someone said he scores goals out of nothing, think he would be an even bigger threat with a half decent target
man alongside. Mcginty probably MOM, and nice to have a keeper who can catch a cross, dread to think where we would be if we still had Martin Rice in goal. Speaking of keepers nice to see John Turner, though he seems to have shrunk about 3 inches, what a keeper though, up there with Mike Mahoney as the best in my time (since1963)

Well, its 20 weeks since Torquay won on a saturday, (10th Sept v York)
Surely we are due a happy saturday evening or is it asking too much ? At least Bowman wont score
Lets have 100% and a performance full of fight, passion and will to win from every single player not just Luke Young
Thats all I ask. Have not seen it too many times this season

Time to go Mr Nicholson... POOR

First time poster, yes another Stubbs fan Wivel, been all downhill since General Franco left for Leicester
Anyway, my thoughts - so its a young team lacking in confidence.....the latest from the manager, well didn't they get any confidence from sticking 9 past
the team 2nd in the League ? Maidstone had won once in 13 games, weren't they lacking in confidence?
There is obviously some ability in this team if they can match FGR albeit lacking in a few positions, centre back, centre midfield and up front, but my main gripe is the what I would call mental fitness, why is this team always second to the ball ? they dont think quick enough or act quick enough, they dont anticipate , so they have to react and when they do they are slow to do it. I have seen it in nearly every home game and have lost count of the times Dave Thomas says on the radio commentary, 'Torquay are looking seriously off the pace and need to sharpen up' - why is this happening ?
Also , what does Nicholson say at half time? I have yet to see us come out at the start of the second half whether we are losing , winning or drawing fired up and on the front foot. I'm sorry but if the players are not listening to him or responding we have to put someone in charge they will listen to
and there is no leader on the field either, thinking of Roadrunners favourite player, if we had Clint Boulton on the pitch he would soon knock them into shape. Another thing, get the players to attack the ball when its crossed not just hope it will come to them, Kieffer Moore showed them how to do it
I know its not Nicho's style but some of these players need a kick up the backside, do you think if Martin Allen was in charge our team would be playing like this? Its not all about the budget, this team should be safely in mid table. I am beginning to wonder if Steve Tully and Wayne Carlisle couldnt do a better job with this lot, they surely couldnt do much worse
