Staying Up - Relegation Battle

I think the other teams are much better organised than previously. Their fitness levels are better than last time too. And we are missing quality players like Jamie Reid. Jennah, Wynter, Kyle Cameron, vincent etc

Also noticed there were two less teams in this divison last time.

Neil Warnock great bloke

desperado wrote: 22 Mar 2024, 16:03 Remember it well. Then when later visiting teams came to Plainmoor and kicked one out of the ground we'd all chant "Scarborough, Scarborough" !
He would be getting results out of this lot that's for sure.
You are right. He would soon make men of boys. I remember Darren Moore improved and got young player of the year.

I'm a big admirer of Neil Warnock.

But I was just thinking back to us playing Scarborough in 1987. Young Neil was their manager.

They had just been promoted to the football league. My vague memory is one of going home from plainmoor totally pissed off and frustrated. Beaten by this bunch of part timers cloggers 1 nil.

If my memory is correct they scored against the run of play and then proceeded to lump the ball miles out of the ground at every opportunity. I had never seen anything so bizarre in my life. I went home hating Scarborough and Neil Warnock. Neil knows how to hang on to a lead.

A young Neil looking forward to their first season in the football league. Putting up the fences for the visit of Wolves.

culmstockgull wrote: 22 Mar 2024, 13:40 Good article on devon live that not exactly fills me with hope but gives cause for optimism in that Neil Warnock is helping with talking to potential investsors and will be at the ground tomorrow, perhaps he could find his way into the dugout.
That would be fantastic if they could get him onboard. He gets players to run through fire. Top bloke.

It is very strange and could look even worse for us after Sat. Hemel Hempstead who are 3 points above us are on a terrible run 1 point in 27 and I'm expecting Dartford to beat them Sat. Hemel still have to play Truro and Taunton away. They seem to have forgotten about rearanging the Truro game? We need to win our games and make sure it's not us. Massive game for us Saturday.

On main site

Torquay United FC would like to provide our supporters with a further update on the current situation at Plainmoor, as work on finding new ownership of the Club continues.

Off the field, the Club remains out of Administration but under the continuing protection of an interim moratorium. Meanwhile, preliminary discussions have commenced with interested parties concerning the structure and timing of arrangements which would bring about a change of ownership and stewardship of the Club.

By their nature, these conversations remain confidential. More details can be shared once a clear front runner has emerged and matters are concluded.

As confirmed yesterday, the Club can confirm that ALL player and staff wages have been secured and processed for the month of March, and we would again like to thank all our loyal supporters, in addition to the local community and whole football family for their continued and unwavering support during this testing period.

I don't know what to think of him.

But I have found this post about Smurthwaite and why he got out of Vale.

In April 2014 I was beaten up by three Vale fans outside the ground at Vale Park – I had a serious hiding.

"That is three people out of 4,000 so you have to get that into context, but I lost two teeth and had stitches.

"Some fans turned on my daughter soon after. That has resulted in my son not coming to games and my daughter has to have stewards with her for fear of her own safety.

"No one should have to put up with that.

"Unfortunately the cameras couldn't make out their faces. We beefed up security but I have been looking over my shoulder since that happened.

"The good hiding put me on the back foot and thinking why am I doing this?

From the club website

Torquay United FC would like to provide its supporters with an update on the current situation at Plainmoor.

The significant number of goodwill messages and size of the donations received continues to astound everybody here at Plainmoor, and with every single Club employee directly affected by the recent events off the field, we cannot thank you all enough for all the support you have given us all.

Thanks to the continued support of the Yellow Army – and our friends from all across the local community and footballing world – the total donations received as of Monday 18th March had reached an astonishing £22, 455.69.

As a result of this, the Club can confirm that ALL player and staff wages have been secured and processed for the month of March, which obviously has come as a huge relief to all involved.

Every single penny raised has been, and will continue to be used, to help the club continue to function and fulfil its fixtures, and therefore we would like to wholeheartedly like to express our huge gratitude once more.

Thank you – each and every one of you.

A Notice of Intention to put the club into administration was served on 22nd February and a further NOI for another period of 10 business days was lodged on 7th March.
It's all gone very quiet.

And so should he be paying. This seasons mess is his responsibility. He appointed people to run the club to make contracts with players and he should honour those contracts.
