Have only seen Higgins play three times but he's been solid each time. He made one goal-saving tackle on Saturday and was a threat going forward.

As for McGinty, the difference in his game when I saw him at the start of the season vs. how he played last weekend is chalk and cheese. Was tearing my hair out at Gateshead as he just lumped ball after ball into the sky. Owers and Kuhl have got him playing on the ground and he was impressive at Halifax.

Anyway, as has been said, we need players who can stick the ball in the net.

The 'red card for denying a goal-scoring chance' law was relaxed about a year ago.

There is no way he would have been sent off for this. Most likely a yellow card for deliberate handball but even then I would have thought it was harsh.

merse btpir wrote: 24 Oct 2017, 07:04 Well watch for yourselves:

Yes the keeper may have left the box, but did the whole of the ball cross the whole of the line? From that angle (which was also that of the majority of the Yellow Army) it cannot be accurately judged and I don't think the ref saw 'enough of that' to warrant a free kick and certainly the lino's angle was of no help to him either.

So I would say a lot of fuss about nothing and the usual trigger for linesman baiting and invective from those who reckon all match officials are idiots......try doing it yourselves and make decisions which all agree with given that you have one angle and others will have theirs!
Cheers, Merse. (It's at about 1 minute 50 seconds if anyone wants to watch it for themselves.)

This is why I was keen to to see it again because there is no way any of us in the stand were 100%. I've watched it several times and nowhere near convinced he takes it over the line.

If anything I'm swaying toward the fact he did very well indeed to keep it in his area.

FC Halifax Town v Torquay United, Match Day Thread, 21st October 2017

Not a lot to add from what’s been said. Thought we played well and certainly didn’t deserve to lose.

Really impressed with Davis and Efete. If the latter finds a bit more confidence he could become a very good centre half. Higgins was excellent too.

If I’m honest about the non-penalty, I thought Evans went down far too easy. Need to see it again but seemed the ball had just got away from him and he decided to see if he could save it by winning a penalty.

Also hope the “handball” from their keeper is in the highlights because I’m keen to see it again. Certainly looked like he’d left his area. Wouldn’t have been a red though, as some are saying.

The biggest positive is how we reacted to going one down. How many times, particularly in the past few years, have we just crumbled after going behind?

PS. If you are the gentleman spitting feathers that Rhys Murphy didn’t come over at full time and applaud the fans, he was literally the first player to do so.

PPS. If you’re the gentleman who called their No. 11 a “f****t” because he was wearing orange boots, there’s a reason no one laughed and the groans were out of pity.

List of Players who were rubbish with us, but have gone on to be good

Jeff wrote: 16 Oct 2017, 06:22 I don't think this is correct, as he was on loan with us when we were back in L2 if I recall correctly. I distinctly remember seeing him turn out for us away at Darlo- granted he was still awful but it wasn't in the conference days.

Although ironically, I'm pretty sure he was on loan at Eastbourne once upon a time, and played an absolute blinder for them one disgraceful midweek night when they tore us apart.
Worrying how bad my memory is of these things.

That must have been it. Tore us apart then came to us only to stink out the place.

Yep, I’ll be trekking up from South Yorkshire.

Will take a rubbish game if we scrape a win...

Ashley Barnes. Played a few games on loan from Plymouth, don’t think he scored... now playing in the Premier league
Was going to be my shout. Saw him away at Eastbourne, if I recall, and was probably the worst performance I've ever seen from anyone in a Torquay shirt.

Dagenham and Redbridge V Torquay Utd. A Saturday 30th September 2017 -match thread

Five and a half minutes of 1st half highlights and just over a minute from the 2nd half - is that a fair reflection of the game? Great effort from Reid, despite the poor pass from Lathrope.

I've watched that McQuoid miss about a hundred times in the hope that one time it goes in. We've all been there, you basically assume you've scored so you relax everything in your mind and body and let the ball do the work.

Nuts. Thought that was scrapped once the "national" teams got involved.
