The way forward without a new stadium?

What the club hasn't been good at is sell on fees ,it can't be too difficult apart from a possible sale of a player to also set up a percentage fee if sold on to another larger club afterwards the potential income must be worth doing as often as possible.

A great gesture that should Torquay survive and Weymouth are in trouble some day should be reciprocated

Potential Buyers

There may or may not be a new owner appears but the reason the club is in this position is that Osborne had no intention of running it as a successful football club.He saw an opportunity for housing as he does in Swindon and Bristol and thought if he strings it along to it's current position the council would weaken and give him what he wanted.Luckily they didn't his recent meetings with the council bore this out so he realised it was time to leave.7 m to him no doubt was loose change for what he thought he would get but I for one am pleased he's wasted a few years and some finance he certainly was no saviour happy to keep the club going.Compare him to Mike Bateson and it's light and day he knew the clubs limitations but put the money he could where his mouth was and sustained a reasonable then fourth division side.He regularly updated supporters on what was going on.Osborne has been as elusive as the Marie Celeste so please don't think he was doing it for the good of the club ,he's put us where we are now intentionally.

Osborne gone!

HeleVillageJunkie wrote: 23 Feb 2024, 11:45 What a sad period it is in the history of my beloved Torquay United football Club. I've been reading comments on this forum for many years and haven't left a comment due to the farce that is the Torquay United Fan's Forum.

From day 1 many supporters have been against Clarke Osborne being the owner of our club. Well Southampton Gull, SuperNickyWroe, Alan Merson and those idiots who run the Torquay Talk and the Torquay united supporters trust have got their wish.

What people don't seem to understand is that in the last 10 years the club has losses of over ten million pounds. Plainmoor is not suitable for a modern day professional football club.

I don't blame Osborne from walking away, only last week the club had a meeting with Torbay Council who again refused to provide land it owns for the 5th time. The council are complicit in Osborne walking.

The only mistake Clarke Osborne made was not sacking the manager when we were relegated last season.

So thank you Southampton Gull, SuperNickyWroe, Alan Merson and all the hirachary at the TUST for destroying my beloved football club.
The likes of the people you mention had the foresight to realize that CO didn't have the interest of the football club at all.The only interest he had was land which the council wouldn't allow his grubby hands on.The decline of the team was him not spending money on players which if he was as wealthy as he is could have kept the team in a higher league. It was only when the club would reach this position not if.He could afford to lose millions for hoping to get housing and luckily the council stayed strong so he jumped ship no thought for the club at all that's the realism of it.SG,SNW etc could see himfor what he is.

New Revenue ideas?

:goodpost:
SuperNickyWroe wrote: 22 Feb 2024, 22:49 You'd only need two gates.
One by the family stand and one at the pop - designated as "Cash Only"
I'm sure that after todays events, there would be a few volunteers as well.
Cash could then be taken into the Gulls Nest before being banked by the person that does the banking already.....
You're making a problem when there isn't one.

New Revenue ideas?

Osborne wasn't interested in the growth of the club more it's demise but there must be many possibilities of earning extra revenue. For one allowing supporters to pay at the gate rather than having to pay online. Not everyone is up to Internet Technology potentially losing a lot of extra income.

Osborne et al have been like a cancer ,on the way to a cure you need to kill off all the bad cells so yes a clear out of the ownership completely and the hangers on and start afresh

I see todays events as a good thing because had he got his hands on what he was really after we would be in an even worse position. Time for everyone to pull together now and at long last I can return to my beloved Plainmoor. That charlatan never got a penny of my money and now he never will. Onwards and upwards and good riddance to a despicable man, the one I maintained all along that should have received the hatred that ultimately went elsewhere.

Yes he'd sell his grandmother and the clothes on her back if he had the chance.Glad he can crawl back under the greasy rock he appeared from.

JimNichol'sdog wrote: 22 Feb 2024, 14:51 Let me firstly say 'good riddance' to the charlatan Osborne, a man without scruples and ignorant of the moral compass. Let's hope he takes his sycophants, Edwards, Hayman, and the 'Chuckle Brothers' with him. None of them should be allowed anywhere near a football club again.

In response to those who grieve at his departure, I would contend that if/when he acquired Plainmoor this scenario would have occurred, albeit some time in the future. Just look at his previous business dealings. To plagiarise a previous posting, there was as much chance of Osborne having a new ground built as there would be of Lord Lucan riding Shergar to victory in the Derby.

I have the utmost sympathy for any of the club's non playing staff whose jobs have been put in jeopardy by this vindictive action. I sincerely hope that if Torquay United is liquidated that they find alternative employment quickly.

I am also sorry for those loyal fans who have followed the club through desperate times.

Judging by the posts on this forum there are, however, numerous fans who would welcome and support a phoenix club. It won't be easy, but there are examples of clubs folding, being re-formed and then prospering. If it comes to it let's hope that Torquay United follow that path.

Finally, it is a condemnation of society today that an individual can contribute to the potential ruination of a long-standing institution that, despite its frustrations, has provided entertainment for more than 100 years.

Quite right and in your final paragraph proves the true intentions and greed of said individual who in some small crumb of comfort at least failed in his intended five year plan

His lies continued for years re the new stadium,he must come up with a different lie soon as he's kept that one up wherever he goes.Proved himself to be a self centered property developer who only ever had housing in his eyes ,the sort of leech of society no sporting club needs.

**23rd March v Hampton & Richmond** - Big Protest Day

It's a very difficult situation, there's an owner who takes no interest in football or the club it appears but continues to cover salaries, expenses etc weekly as the club must be leaking money quicker than the Titanic leaks water .It makes no logical sense for a businessman to continue doing this and yet he does.He has been told he has no chance of acquiring the ground for non footballing means yet year on year he continues funding it.So where is the end game? Surely no matter how much money you have you stop eventually yet the club survives year on year. However we're in the lowest position possible and the sinking of the Titanic seems close. Its difficult to know what to do,carry on until the club is finally on the sea bed or hope that CO has a miraculous turn around and re floats it.Presumably if he wanted to get rid he would try to sell the lease though with it saddled in debt can't imagine many takers though a rich investor would be the ideal scenario. The problem is trying to start a phoenix club from scratch with no money and no certainty of what the owners intentions are is nigh on impossible as he may carry on.If he were more transparent about his plans or lack of them then supporters would know where to go.Its the not knowing that slowly kills you.
