In Gary we trust - just ask SG, he will tell you why ...., because he got us promoted out of this league and got us to the play off final.
But he has actually achieved nothing for us has he?

I blame Gary Johnson for what goes on on the pitch. You bang on about him being the best man for the job, I disagree and you still haven't said why he is.Southampton Gull wrote: ↑05 Nov 2023, 23:11 What do you expect from a club owned by Osborne? From day 1 I predicted we'd end up where we are now. You blame Gary Johnson, I don't. Far from realistic your memory is short and way off the mark.
You quote Chesterfield as if they are something we should aspire to. Do you have any idea how littered their history is with financial irregularities? Absolutely ridiculous to compare us to a club that have spent 20 years in tier two.
Like you I fear for our club, and always have, under the Osborne regime but whatever his motives and however it is financed Johnson has been backed. The fact remains he has failed miserably particularly with recruitment and that can't be denied.
I am well aware of Chesterfield's history thank you. The comparison I was making was the gulf between us in footballing terms
If you want to continue trusting in Gary fair enough that's your choice. As I said at the start of this 'discussion' we all actually want what's best for our Club I don't think you and I will ever agree on the Johnson issue but there we are.

I wouldn't expect anything else from the president of the Gary Johnson Appreciation Society!Southampton Gull wrote: ↑05 Nov 2023, 22:39 You like others have a short memory. Achieved nothing? Promotion out of this division and a play off final the following season. Relegation doesn't take away from the fact that he achieved those things or perhaps in your opinion we never got to League One under Leroy because we ended up getting relegated the season after.
Short memory maybe, selective for sure!!
The truth of the matter is that we are no better off now than we were when he walked through the door.
Your standards and expectations for our club are obviously poles apart from mine and I expect that will always be the case.
You think he is brilliant, I think he isn't and I've yet to hear a point of view to convince me otherwise.
Getting a full time squad promoted from a predominately part time league and taking them back to where they started is not a success in my book. Play of final? Failed. We were clear of the field but Johnson failed to replace an injured Danny Wright and we finished up scrapping in the play offs. Perhaps your selective memory has for gotten that.
I've got a selective memory? Realistic more like

It's not about doom and gloom.Southampton Gull wrote: ↑05 Nov 2023, 14:58 Looking at the highlights and reading the report of the game by Culmstockgull I think the doom and gloom fraternity are disappointed that we seemed up for a battle and ground out a decent win while the 'hopeless' defence kept a clean sheet.
I'll gladly take the 3 points and the stick but they seem to forget the real objective is promotion and we're definitely still on course for that. In Gary we trust.
Everybody on here wants the very best for our football club. Torquay United F C.
It's just that we have different perspectives and opinions of where we are right now.
For me, a supporter for over 60 years, my Club is currently at rock bottom.
We have an owner and a Chief Executive who have absolutely no regard for the supporters and a Manager who has achieved absolutely nothing since his time in charge here. The 'in Gary we trust ' brigade can bang on as much as they like but the reality of the situation is that whatever he may have done at other clubs in the past he has failed to do here at my club.
We have no scheme in place for the development of young players, the recruitment policy is appalling, the scouting is non existent and tactically we are a shambles.
Despite all this,I really do want us to succeed but if anyone can come come up with a sound argument in support of Gary Johnson being the man to take my club from the place they are now to the EFL I would love to hear from them.
Today I saw Chesterfield beat L1 Portsmouth in the FA Cup. Chesterfield are in the National League and we are light years away from being half as good as they are.
In Gary we trust?
I don't

Fair enough, I bow to your greater knowledge of the details but, it's a fact that this 'experienced' manager has assembled a very poor squad of players.Cheddargull wrote: ↑30 Oct 2023, 11:20 I don't think he extended the contracts of the failing players, they are already in long term deals. I think only Hall and Moxey signed new contracts and Ash, Da Silva, Stobbs and Dawson are new signings.
I would put a question mark against re-signing Hall because if your budget is limited you can't afford the luxury of players who are going to have limited availability.

Because he's blown the budget on players that are not fit for purpose and in some cases (Dawson) never play. Extended contracts to players who got us relegated and again, week after week are failing to perform.Southampton Gull wrote: ↑30 Oct 2023, 08:33 Why would he be so desperate if he has a budget to work with? Perhaps a freebie from his son is the best it gets?

And, there there are still some on here who believe Johnson is the best man for the job and that we won't find anybody better!!North Curry House wrote: ↑28 Oct 2023, 15:55 Just another day at the office for Johnson, serving up more crap.
If we can not beat WSM and now Hampton, we have no chance against Bath and Yeovil. We will be fighting relegation by Christmas.

If he's not fit he will feel quite at home here.culmstockgull wrote: ↑27 Oct 2023, 16:18 He certainly has an interesting profile, drink driving, disqualified driving, chased all over the north west by the police, but not the first or last of torquay players with a questionable past. but he has some talent, you dont survive 7 years in the Man U academy because you know someone and judging by you tube videos he is big and strong and has a shot on him, he will not be fit thats for sure, but if he can manage 60 minutes we might just squueeze 30 out of hall, so if we can keep him away from cars and the pub he may be a good acquisition, one question why have we got a head of recruitment when all gary did was phone up his son for a loan.
So why has Johnson Junior sent him here?
For his development? Unlikely
To keep his Dad happy? Quite likely
To help Uncle Pete? Probably-it's a family affair after all
For the sake of my team I hope he does really well but as long as Johnson is at the helm I have no confidence at all.

10 League Games in 39 Days
Is this fixture situation unique to us or are the part timers in this league faced with the same situation? If, as I assume, they are it will be tougher on them than it will be on a so called professional full time club.portugull wrote: ↑11 Oct 2023, 22:01 Commencing on Saturday 21st October and ending on Tuesday 28th November United have 10 League games in 39 days with 6 games away from home.
Given our small squad this will be exceedingly tough even for a Full Time Team especially if we lose key players to injury or suspension.

That's right. Jarvis hit a purple patch last season but in 7 years he has not managed to score 50 goals. Hardly a record to pin your hopes on but another example of the Johnson's abysmal recruitment recordUnitedinDevon wrote: ↑14 Oct 2023, 19:34 It was both of them up top today but Ash has struggled to be effective
Think we saw the best of Jarvis last season with Nouble doing a lot of the hold up play

I'm afraid our shortcomings were highlighted ages ago and the greatest one of those is Johnson.Nick Potkins wrote: ↑13 Oct 2023, 10:26 Torquay 1 Maidstone 3
Sadly, this could be the result that highlights our shortcomings. Being a cup game, I can't see any loan signings appearing.
Whatever the result tomorrow we are light years away from being a Football League Club we might be full time, but we are totally unprofessional from top to bottom and when we have a manager referring to the ' right fans' it just about sums up the depths to which the club we all love has sunk.
Very sad times.
